Note: Dr. Umar has been interviewed by The Breakfast Club, America's most popular urban radio station, SEVEN times since 2015. Each UA-cam video is at least ~40 minutes and the longest is over an hour. No one else has been interviewed that many times on the show to my knowledge. Controversy gets views and they're all in bed together.

To play devil's advocate...I guess...I agree with his philosophy against black/white relationships in terms of passing down wealth. This is such a convoluted topic with so many variables surrounding it so I'll just say it like this. His goal of increasing black wealth is supported by maintaining black on black relationships because the passing of the wealth is intrinsically built into the relationship. Whether or not those black folk inheriting that wealth do right with it, or if the potential white side puts that wealth back into the black community is another convo. But we can't deny that black on black relationships has it built in by default.

I do wish it wasn't such a taboo thing in our culture. I grew up with my father in my life and it took me until my mid 30s to actually accept that I have it and get a diagnosis. Meds have made things so much easier and learning about it has brought me so much peace. I spent most of my life thinking I was just undisciplined.
People want to act like this is made up and new, but my granny never sat down and incessantly cleaned the house. My father and grandfather were always outside tinkering with something and couldn't bear just sitting around in the house with nothing to do. It would do us so much good to just accept it and find healthy ways to deal with it rather than acting like it's nonsense.

If the person the commentor is talking about is anything like the man in this video, I want awful people like that exposed. I've never heard of this man until today (I keep to my circles on UA-cam, which consists of a lot of anti-scam channels, like this one). But I do feel that grifters like him stem from a bit of a vacuum in terms of positive black role models and while I hate making it about sex, you coupd even add the word "male" role models in there. Everyone claims to look up to leaders like MLK but then spew policies that go against him. You have BLM, but then the lack of a central leader has meant many smaller groups under the label have done and said questionable (or abhorrent) things. And again, it's mostly faceless, which I completely understand why, so that they're not giving the media a specific person to attack.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to "lost direction", I feel, and people are both taking advantage of that to empty space in the black community to scheme others and people are sadly falling for it.

I think due to the campaign of repression and erasure of Black people and their African culture now roots, since America, it's natural to have a longing for self-knowledge and pride in oneself.
Umar has tapped into that and found a way to get rich, while bringing pride to some Black people.
I support and applaud the good parts of that, but of course it being based on bullshit is a problem.
It would be great if America would just own up to our legacy of fuckery of our citizens of African descent.
We could offer great courses in all public school (for all students) covering the great and vast empires in the Motherland pre and post American conquest.
      We could do reparations.
We could build social and physical infrastructure.
We could celebrate African American culture, ingenuity, prose, academia which are integral to whatever greatness our country enjoys.
But you all vote in GOP assholes or don't vote at all. 😮
No color nor culture needs to be superior. But we do need to even things out and make a concerted effort to bring generational wealth and opportunity to all.
That will take White folks being cool with a bit of advantage given to Black and also Latino folks for a while.
It will also take the wealthy seeing a bit of advantage given to the poor (all colors) for a while.
Once we have recalibrated, crime amd incarceration will go down across the board, and society will be safer and more fun for all.

    Hey Cam, love your content.
I'm a white guy from the low country of South Carolina (Conway), and thought I might be able to help give a little context about Dr. Umar's comments about his visits here. Many enslaved Africans managed to preserve far more of their traditional culture in the low country than other parts of the South due to the degree of isolation caused by the geography and culture in this region-- the swampiness of the low country makes it very difficult to traverse which slows emigration, and the profoundly segregationist culture found in low country urban centers like Charleston and Savannah pushed African peoples into ethnic enclaves. We've come to known this unique cultural and ethnic identity as the Gullah people. I'd wager that Dr. Umar is leaning on this as his argument that these Gullah communities are "of Africa" in this sense. I can't speak to the validity of that, of course.

The great thing about Umar is that he's made a caricature of himself, so he's no longer taken seriously by serious people. Even the interviews have become a joke, he's asked more about "snow bunnies and swirling" than about this school that he's supposed to be building. It speaks volumes that Charlemagne has donated a quarter million dollars to SCSU, but dismisses any discussion of donating to Umar's fairytale school. Umar has become a modern day minstrel and I'm glad to see it.

Thanks for producing this video. I've had issues with Umar over the years for a lot of the views he's projected on his audience, but his ADHD misinformation has been a huge issue for me personally. I was diagnosed as a kid and didn't receive treatment until being diagnosed again in adulthood because of the stigma that was spread about ADHD in my family. Especially on the validity of ADHD in black boys and men. I hate that. ADHD isnt' a joke, and quality of life can be impacted horribly in those with untreated ADHD.
I had family who believed in the benefits of modern medicine and addressing self-care, but the myths surrounding invalidating ADHD, Autism, and other disorders/disabilities do nothing except worsen the lives of those who need support. It's a shame that figures like Umar throw the struggles of those with mental health disorders/impairments under the bus, so he can exploit their parents for his own personal gain. Thanks for speaking on this. I know you'll get a lot of heat from his most hardcore fans, but I'm grateful you spoke on this.

Umar is constantly in my IG feed, so I watched a few of his reels before he turned me off. And I then turned him off. His arrogance was a red flag and my spidey senses started buzzing. But there are always people who are looking for a charismatic megalomaniac to follow. And, if he keeps pounding out content that the algorithm prioritizes, I'm pretty sure he'll end up with the cult following he so desperately wants. We've all seen this movie before and it doesn't end well. Thanks for saying what needs to be said. Hopefully it will spread and get amplified.

Maaan, I knew a lot of this stuff but not the whole ADHD is fake thing. I didn't get diagnosed until I was 31 and I'm not currently medicated but believe me when I tell you finding other ADHD people online who could explain to me, like, how to be able to do stuff with the brain that I have, was life changing. I'm talking about basic ass stuff, chores, bills, watering plants consistently. We're not lazy, we're just made differently and when we have the tools to understand our own process we can thrive, dammit.

It's really funny tbh hearing about Umar. Look, Africa is real segmented. There are too many diverse cultures and backgrounds to realise the Africa people dream of. Yes, we can, and do, see our common traits and unite for common purposes and all that but at the end of the day, a Ghanaian has little to no interaction with a South African or a Congolese.
So its weird hearing about Blacks overseas talking about Africa and Afeicans like we're one people. We aren't. We are groups of people with amazing and diverse cultural backgrounds and lives. It would do people good to actually learn about Africa from Africans instead of "leaders" who have no idea about the continent and use it as a buzzword for their own benefits

I did not like the attempt to throw shade on Martin, Malcolm and Marcus in order to make a point against Umar. Those former 3 are the real deal and deserve nothing but respect.
You knew the convictions against Marcus don't stand up to scrutiny but you left it in your video (with an editor's note). Marcus meeting the KKK was not an endorsement of them as you tried to insinuate. Part of it was to protect black people from them. Meeting with your enemy is a part of war. Malcolm meeting white people (on his hajj) who weren't racist towards him was just part of his evolution and rounded his world view. He didn't suddenly believe that all of his prior experience with the white community was non-existent. Martin's compromising nature wasn't a bad trait either. It's part of our loving nature as black people so I'm not sure what point you were trying to make there.
If you want to throw shade on Umar, go ahead and do so. This video was about him. I didn't agree with every point you made but you have a right to talk about him as you wish.
Trying to throw 3 of our greats under the bus as you discuss someone who looks up to them, was outrageous and a MAJOR sin against the black community.

@@CamJames What would belittle him in pointing out that his African name was given to him in America if not taking validity? That speaks directly to claims you’re making in this video. It has everything to do with it (it’s the subject matter ) and you were willfully trying to mislead your audience that don’t know any better. Ironically, what you accuse Umar of😂 fubu journalists I guess.

@kerronportman100 Umar using a "sanctioned village" in the States to brag on camera is the burn here.
