- Some R142As from the 4 line ended up running on the 2 and 5 lines on Sunday morning. Quite the unusual occurrence!

The motors are so different. The R142s play those three notes. You can clearly hear the motor switching from switching, series and multiple. The As rev up totally differently.
I just love that propulsion

I've never seen an r142a on the 2 and 5 lines it's rare to me nice video keep it up.

you see what the power of team work can do? I bet if this happened more often you'll probably see something very strange like an R-32 D train or an R-160 A train

+Dj Hammers the 6 doesn't have as many R142A's as it used to before most of them got converted to R188's for use on the 7. You think there should be an equipment swap for the 6's R62A's with the 4's R142/A's? (Not counting all the equipment, but I think there should be some R142/A's converted to the 6, seeing as it doesn't have as much NTT equipment as it has now...)

It would actually be better to keep the 4 line completely R142/As. The R142/As tend to have shorter dwell times than the R62/As. Putting R62/As on the 4 line would increase dwell times, which would adversely affect the 5 line.
By keeping the R62/As on the 6, the increase in dwell times is isolated to the 6 line.
+Dj Hammers it would actually balance the dwell times on the 4 and 6...
The R142A was assigned to every numbered train line except the 1!
Why weren’t 5 trains mentioned in the construction where 4 trains terminated at Bowling Green
Bit late here, I know, but the 5 normally terminates at Bowling Green on weekends anyway. This video was taken on a Sunday, so no need to mention it.
The 2 and 5 have been using the trains so it's not surprising that they would do this as an experiment before the next batch of new trains would arrive

I'm pretty sure like R142A was running on the 5 here and there like 7 years ago at least cuz I took a R142A 5 train to 125 when I was like 4 which was like 2012

Yes they do... The 2 and 5 need to get CBTC first.. along with the 4 and 6... The 1 and 3 would just get R62As retrofitted with CBTC.
(not talking about the R142s)

This would have made more sense honestly all of those trains literally have the same fleet but it's just that the r142a does not go on the 2 and 5 line only the four but the r142 is on the 2,4,5 they could have done the same thing with r142a it makes no sense to me but it is MTA I guess lol

Breaking news the r142a has taken over the services of lines 2 and 5 which their normal lines are 4 and sometimes 6 the r142s are now retired because they hated the look of the r142a also earlier today one of the r142a’s have slapped the r142 in the face because they were built after them they hated each other but they almost looked the same this is jimmy carrel saying that we need trains that behave 🤣

What's the difference between R142 and R142A? Looks like nothing...
The R142A has a noticeably different traction noise, comparable to the R143/R188 whilst the R142 can be compared to an R160
The R142 has a ridiculously loud HVAC system, no other cars are this loud
That's all I can think of off the top of my head
The biggest difference is its traction sound
Not to mention the front windows.
Casual Keldeo the front of an r142 has a line between the bar while r142a has no line
R142a dosent have frames and r142 does have frame

@@chrisdadrilla because the 2/5 are interchangeable and they need to switch quickly at Flatbush avenue and there aren't enough R142A's to do that so that is why R142A's can't run on 2/5 lines
