Katcha theevu (Indian territory) , a small island located between Rameswaram and Srilanka, was handed over to Srilanka by Indira Gandhi during DMK rule 1975.
It became election issue for ADMK. Jayalalitha said in election manifesto She would retrieve Katcha theevu from Srilanka ,
DMK is questioning Jayalalitha , when are you going to retrieve Katcha theevu .

Hi, In 1974, then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi gave Katchatheevu Island freely to Sri Lanka under the "Indo-Sri Lankan Maritime agreement" and at that time Tamil Nadu had DMK chief minister who did not object this move of the Congress Govt in the centre. This agreement later caused lots of issues to Tamil Nadu fishermen and Srilanka started arresting or killing TN fishermen who fish near or on the way to this Island. In this video Jaya was clarifying to the question of the DMK members in the State assembly that it was DMK the main reason for giving up Katchatheevu Island for Srilanka as they never objected to it and even filed a counter affidavit in the supreme court when Jaya filed a law suit in Supreme court to take back the Katchatheevu Island from Srilanka to protect Indian, specially Tamil Nadu state fishermen. Of late Modi Government is having in their agenda list to get Katchatheevu Island back from Sri Lanka but it may take several years of diplomacy and effort as Indhira Gandhi simply gave off the island without any specific conditions to take it back. This was the stupidity of the Congtress and the then ruling DMK. Unfortunately it caused lots of issues to TN fishermen. Oflate after Modi became PM, Srilanka stopped catching or killing Indian fishermen and only one or two rare incidents took place but everything is far better in the current BJP central Govt rule. Sorry its a big answer for your question. Hope this clarifies about this video. Thanks.
