He missed a few less important nerfs. But not including Tinkmaster and Pagle is a big deal. You could see those 2 cards in every deck :D Damn.. I miss coin pagle :D
+killacam1139 the idea is that Tinkmaster and Nat Pagle nerfs were as impactful as the ones of Warsong Commander, Unleash, Undertaker etc., so they should have been mentioned in a video about the 'history of nerfs', not left out like the less impactful ones (shielbearer, soulfire, etc.)
Completely missed soulfire, argent commander, and defender of argus, novice engineer, dark iron dwarf, abusive sergeant, nat pagle, tinkmaster overspark, dalaran mage, and most importantly and unjustifiably nerfed... LOREWALKER CHO
+Abdullah Saadoon it was nerfed from a 2/2 to a 2/1 two-mana-minion. Then - after that didn't work out, because the combos with Unleash were still to strong - it got rebalanced from a 2/1 two-mana-minion to the 3/2 five-mana-piece-of-crap we know today.
+Moorb0y52 also the bs combo shaman with it's -1 mana cost totem (play 2 or 1+faceless, then knife juggler+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda and win)
Alejandro Matos Anguis "I think it makes sense, it would be a bad card, which means that it helps players to learn how to evaluate cards and choose good cards. It also suggests a certain type of deck centered around your hero's attack that new players could try to implement, synergizing with cards like Bite, Claw, and Savagery. Of course, the real point was, we wanted it to be so bad that it would never be played again." ~Ben Brode, April 2016, after the controversial Savage Roar nerf ;-)
CarpeGuitarrem I think "target minion gets +1 attack and your hero gets +1 attack" is more balanced, since there is already claw and new players can get confused on what card is better than others during deckbuilding, similar effects could be confusing lol
This presentation was so well put together and professional that it really appears like Kripp works for Blizzard. Really informative and nostalgia-inducing. Thanks!
I've gone through the wiki page and I reckon since the release of the beta: 12 cards nerfed almost out of existance 21 nerfed out of the meta but still fit in a few decks and/or in arena 17 cards still strong in the meta Generally the nerfs were gentler in the beta, but with lots and lots of exceptions
Well he never said it was 1/1 but that was the card as it is today it didn't have the old effect on it so I don't think the 1/1 mattered as much it was just used as potential board clear prevention
I remembered correctly, that it used to cost 4 mana, but I remembered the order of changes wrong. First it was 4, then it was buffed to 2 mana before finally settling to it's current 3 mana mark.
Kripp, if you render the images of the cards with the background, when you set them to fade away, you won't see an exaggerated version of their background.
You did miss talking about the Raging Wargon/Inner Rage/Charge/Faceless Manipulator when you were talking about the charge nerf, but other than that it was a real good history of Hearthstone, and the decks that were around pre-GvG.
I really wish Warsong Commander wasn't nerfed, but Frothing was instead. The problem with the Patron deck was that you could be bursted for 40+ damage BECAUSE of Frothing, not Warsong. Blizzard just gimped an awesome deck that punished aggro really hard and led to the demise of Face Hunter for awhile. What a waste.
it's okay... face hunter and other aggro decks got repunished by Reno. Reno led them to their own demise WITHOUT being broken for other decks. I'm glad Patron is gone, classic patron was grade A bullshit and cancer and just shat on every deck combo because of the raw damage in the end.
+Shirai Kuroko Though shaman was kinda considered the undertaker killer back then with 2x earth shock, 2x rockbiter and 2x lightning bolt you were often able to remove the undertaker, before it got out of control.
you should do a follow up to this for 2018 - game has changed a lot since the early days - currently looking over very old content and the game has went crazy compared to what we had when HS first came out.
+Theologos dude, learn Greek, since it's a second letter of Greek alphabet, after that you can teach somebody something. Do you even speak more than one language, bro?
+Theologos not according to any pronunciation guide I can find in YT or online dictionary or 20 years of never hearing it pronounced that way. Though there's nothing wrong with saying meh-ta, since words are allowed to have more than one pronunciation, even if you or I aren't aware of them.
There's no real right way to pronounce anything. Language is 100% arbitrary. He is in Canada, so they likely pronounce things differently. Shut the fuck up with that closed perspective.
I recall once watching a video from back when kripp didn't know how to play hearthstone. He was playing druid against a priest, and the "light fountain" attacked him at one point. What's the best way of finding vids from that era?
would be a intresting/broken tavern brawl. a build your own deck where if you play a card that has been changed over time you get the option to pick which version to play?
Remember when Secrets could activate on your turn? Eye For an Eye was actually a good card back then because you could Yolo your opponent, then attack into a large minion the opponent plays to trigger Eye For an Eye for like 6-8 damage. You could also amplify it with Blessed Champion to double the minion's Attack.
I remember that your own secrets could once trigger on your own turn, which meant paladins played the secret that damaged the opposing hero as much as you were damaged, coupled with lights justice and hoped that the enemy would play a big minion.
I never was a grim patron warrior player, but I did not like the nerf.. you actually needed skill to pull that deck off, unlike the undertaker bullshit.
+LE0NSKA no you didn't. Stall the game until you had the combo in your hand. Win. GG. The only counter to patron deck was a bad draw (whcih I mean, you had all sorts of raw cards), or an all taunt dck... which let me phrase that... an all... taunt... deck... that shit is weaksauce.
Aickavon the Techpriest you need skill to stall the game and balance your combo potential, and acutally pull of the combo. atleast more than drwaing undertaker in the first two rounds.
LE0NSKA Equip win axe, kill two minions. Equip win axe .2, smack something twice and abuse acolyte effect. Brawl for whenever board gets too much. It's not hard to stlal a game with a warrior... that's kinda what their class is designed for, stalling and outlasting opponents. They are the second best in control (only outdone by mages). The combo literally takes one turn and no brains. Maybe two if your opponent managed to have a flamestrike.
I jumped in when Shattered Sun was a 3/3, Defender of Argus was a 3/3 as well and Dark Iron Dwarf's buff was permanent. They were nerfed shortly thereafter because zoo was a total beast at that time (along with murloc warlock) :P
It wasn't really though. Grim Patron / Warsong Commander / Whirlwind / Death's Bite deathrattle etc was a really popular combo for a while :P Oh yeah, and Frothing Berserkers getting a charge effect right before you combo all that. Good times!
One significant nerf I remember from beta was Defender of Argus used to be a 3/3 minion and just about every single deck in hearthstone used to play it. Now it is just a 2/3.
To this day I still think the Warsong Commander nerf was one of the most ill-thought out nerfs in the history of Hearthstone. Regardless of how balanced the Patron deck was, it introduced so many previously unused cards into the spotlight. Battle Rage, Unstable Ghoul, Frothing Beserker, Inner Rage, Commanding Shout, Slam, Dread Corsair, Gnomish Inventor. ALL these cards were key in the Patron deck and had never seen the light of day. When Warsong left, a good chunk of these cards went with it. There was no attempt to keep the deck a float, they just threw it into the garbage and turned away. It's sad really.
I remember when Kripp got nerfed from a tournament player to an Arena guy early in the beta.
Savage
+Momentum Knockout Turns out that nerf was preeettty goooood
Some salty sunfury protector bitch talk
+Momentum Knockout well played
+Momentum Knockout I remember when he got nerfed from hardcore diablo player to hearthstone-playing sloth.
I just noticed that in the moonfire card its a magma rager that is getting hit
+Lipe Br Oh my god you're right
Still warting for the nerf of Ice Rager to a 5/0.
+MagmaRagerino Kripperino I wonder if it would live if you have a stormwind champion or a sword of justice on the board.
+MagmaRagerino Kripperino 0/5 at the end of your turn swap this minion's attack and health
What about a change to 1/5
Random Guy no thats just an annoying piece of shit minion
nice prediction
He missed a few less important nerfs. But not including Tinkmaster and Pagle is a big deal. You could see those 2 cards in every deck :D
Damn.. I miss coin pagle :D
0:34
pagle wouldnt ve played today if he was still as good
game isnt slow anymore
+L0gopeda if you watched the video the very first thing he said is im not going to name every single nerf
Sir Andrew Hiss yeah.
Back then- 2 mana, give your minions taunt, draw a card.
Nowadays- 2 mana, silence one of YOUR OWN MINIONS, draw a card.
Good job Blizzard.
Shows how well Blizzard loves priest!
what if you silence fel reaver? still not good enough ?
RandomStrayPuppet 7 mana 8-8 recycle a card? Not really, especially when you have 5 mana 8-8 no drawbacks, using the 0-mana silence
so what about power word shield?
back then- 5 mana 5/4 taunt
nowadays- 4 mana 7/7
00:35 Did you guys even watch the video? "There's going to be much more changes in the past than what I cover today..." Ya'll are so annoying.
You forgot Overspark! Ragnaros and I spent so much of our time fearing that stupid gnome would appear...
Completely missed soulfire, argent commander, and defender of argus, novice engineer, dark iron dwarf, abusive sergeant, nat pagle, tinkmaster overspark, dalaran mage, and most importantly and unjustifiably nerfed... LOREWALKER CHO
Also this neutral gnome 1/4 +1 spd
What did Cho used to be?
Shieldbearer?
+Ra-Nd -Om He used to be a 1 mana 1/3 with the same effect, if I'm remembering correctly.
and leeroy
Players: "Nerf Sunfury!"
Blizzard: "Joke's on you"
Well people didn't really see it as a nerf at that point
+Gordon Lee It was actually considered a buff.
10:28 Starving buzzard used to be 2/2 now its 3/2.. Definitely a buff
Kappa
+Abdullah Saadoon it was nerfed from a 2/2 to a 2/1 two-mana-minion.
Then - after that didn't work out, because the combos with Unleash were still to strong - it got rebalanced from a 2/1 two-mana-minion to the 3/2 five-mana-piece-of-crap we know today.
+Daniel Krempfer did you notice the "Kappa"? I'm curious if you know what that means lol
+Abdullah Saadoon definitely don't see a kappa
Maybe if you click on read more

Very interesting fact indeed
At least you're somewhat useful
+Facterino Kripperino Nice facts, but could you at least check your spelling?
My nerf was the worst thing ever.
+Sylvanas Windrunner Why yes, yes it was me lady...Thank you for your service to the wild.
If you were to bone Sylvanas, would it be considered as necrophilia?
Kekadoodle I am here from the future, it isn’t necrophilia if you say no homo 🎅🏿
Casual confirmed, Kripp doesn't know that Blood Imp used to be a 1/1 too.
The biggest nerf that came out of Hearthstone was Kripp getting nerfed from hardcore to softcore.
If you look closely at the Undertaker art, you'll notice he's actually flipping you off.
You missed novice engineer, Tinkmaster Overspark and Nat Pagle which was so broken it was soft banned from tournaments.
+Moorb0y52 also the bs combo shaman with it's -1 mana cost totem (play 2 or 1+faceless, then knife juggler+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda+panda and win)
+Moorb0y52 and sylvanas for 5 mana
You know you've played too much arena when you start believing rogue has the best hero power in the entire game.
+Michigan J. back in the day, it did XD
+Michigan J. 2 Mana deal 2 Damage? Kappa.
+Michigan J. Isn't it the best hero power in the entire game?
+Hugh Janus Warlock is the best hero power. I actually don't think it's even close

Missed Tinkmaster. You used to be able to target the minion to transform, which was really good.
New Savage Roar (3)
Your hero gains +2 attack.
Rawr.
+CarpeGuitarrem That is too extreme... I mean, what about claw? Lol
Alejandro Matos Anguis
"I think it makes sense, it would be a bad card, which means that it helps players to learn how to evaluate cards and choose good cards. It also suggests a certain type of deck centered around your hero's attack that new players could try to implement, synergizing with cards like Bite, Claw, and Savagery.
Of course, the real point was, we wanted it to be so bad that it would never be played again."
~Ben Brode, April 2016, after the controversial Savage Roar nerf
;-)
+Alejandro Matos Anguis its not confusing to new players
CarpeGuitarrem I think "target minion gets +1 attack and your hero gets +1 attack" is more balanced, since there is already claw and new players can get confused on what card is better than others during deckbuilding, similar effects could be confusing lol
+CarpeGuitarrem Did you mean +2 attack "this turn"? A lance carrier effect for your hero might be too good
Gather round kids, it's Storytime with Uncle Kripp!
I remember when Dr. Boom was nerfed to 10 mana 1/1... Ahh good days.
Spawn 2 10/10 boombots
+olaolapepsiman Don't forget that they had charge and deathrattle "deal 30854 dmg to the enemy hero"
+Rngesus Is Here still doesn't kill Warrior
at least it doesnt die to bgh Kappa
***** Lmao
I love these lengthy Kripp talk videos. I hope he does more of these.
Forgot about when Darkiron Dwarf used to give +2 attack perm.
Around 8:00 "Protecting your minions? Today that's a joke, you have to protect your face!". Priceless.
And today Skipperino got nerfed.
This presentation was so well put together and professional that it really appears like Kripp works for Blizzard. Really informative and nostalgia-inducing.
Thanks!
You missed the Dark Iron Dwarf nerf - it used to be like Lance Carrier and give 2 attack permanently (not just this turn)...
few of the youtubers I stay and watch them talking and talking for 20 minutes,i love these videos you make man
I've gone through the wiki page and I reckon since the release of the beta:
12 cards nerfed almost out of existance
21 nerfed out of the meta but still fit in a few decks and/or in arena
17 cards still strong in the meta
Generally the nerfs were gentler in the beta, but with lots and lots of exceptions
19:06 Skip Krip for gameplay
Didnt mention the sylvanas NERF from 5 mana to 6 mana Babyrage
+mohammed Algallaf or that she had another effect before
Warsong. We won't forget you.
Rest in pepperoni,patron warrior.
BibleThumb
Pretty sure Blood Imp was 1/1 stealth.
Biyte Yeah, that is exactly what Kripp said in the video.
Woops yeah I didn't watch the video to the end!
+Temisk 1/1 stealth but gave all other minions +1 health. Then they made it a stealth Young Priestess.
+Maldus Alver right I remember now, thanks.
Well he never said it was 1/1 but that was the card as it is today it didn't have the old effect on it so I don't think the 1/1 mattered as much it was just used as potential board clear prevention
now watch me Kripp, now watch me nae nae
its ok
talha tariq hahah
+Metin Kilic hey
+Metin Kilic u online same time as me XD
talha tariq hey
blizzard dont nerf cards, they delete them
Kripp's intro is like when your mom calls, "hey hun, its mom"
like, yeah. i know its you
im pretty sure unleash nerf to 3 mana happened before naxx. we didnt have 4 mana buzzard unleash and undertaker at the same time
We did...
+Crel just looked up some old naxx hunter vids. unleash was 3 mana
I remembered correctly, that it used to cost 4 mana, but I remembered the order of changes wrong. First it was 4, then it was buffed to 2 mana before finally settling to it's current 3 mana mark.
Nat Pagle and Tinkmaster Overspark were also huge huge nerfs, surprised he skipped over those.
Sylvanas, Soulfire, Novice Engineer, Argent Defender
defender of argus
oh man, that beautiful Sylvanus + Brawl combo.
+Rose Marine Haha, Nat Pagel too.
Probably one of my favorite style videos Kripp. Keep up the great work
Yes. I love this style :)

"i'm going first? let me coin defias" there's something wrong here kripp...
Kripp, if you render the images of the cards with the background, when you set them to fade away, you won't see an exaggerated version of their background.
so did kripp ban all the kripperinos?
Nope. It was me
+Coperino Kripperino AKA Copperino Kripperino Doing God's work there Copperino.

I can't wait to see another video like this in another few years to see how the game had changed
Shaman still the same FeelsGoodMan
the same... FeelsBadMan
+Shirai Kuroko Though shaman was kinda considered the undertaker killer back then with 2x earth shock, 2x rockbiter and 2x lightning bolt you were often able to remove the undertaker, before it got out of control.
You forgot to mention that Blood Imp was a 1/1 with the same mechanic it has today before it became what it is currently.
Some nerfs I see in the comments were done in alpha and like Kripp said he wasn't in alpha.
you should do a follow up to this for 2018 - game has changed a lot since the early days - currently looking over very old content and the game has went crazy compared to what we had when HS first came out.
So.... rogue was a overpowered class? that is funny in these days
That's was nerfed means Kappa
Well duh, that's coz it got nerfed
Well, Rogues are still pretty freakin' good.
+Bruno Araújo Yeah, I remember the days of the Leeroy step, damn that was annoying as all hell, it was worse then the Force/Savage combo
+nick wasd well you needed 3 cards for 18 damage or two for 12. With druid its two for 14 without counting your minions on board
How the times have changed
if only video was made 3 months later
I think Gadgetzan Auctioneer was nerfed because the spare parts coming up in GvG would have made it even more powerful.
The MEYTA in the Bedda was sick...
+RealMenDontShave Yeah, there was no krayken yet so cards like mad bom-ber made hurthstone meyta highly competitive in the bedda.
+Sam M. XD
Missed the nerf on Sylvanas, it used to cost 5
Hey guys Kripp here from Dungeon Boss
Your analyses are always more than welcome

What the hell is a betta?
I know beta
But whats a betta?
+Alacrix Are you serious? It is pronounced that way -> Bèta
+Theologos nope, it's a greek word and therefore doesn't follow english pronunciation rules and whatnot
+Theologos dude, learn Greek, since it's a second letter of Greek alphabet, after that you can teach somebody something. Do you even speak more than one language, bro?
Hash Frowns no, i'm not more cultured than your average guy, but if you try to talk smack about grammar, you should have your facts straight
Hash Frowns would you then pronounce meta "mey-tah"?
am I the only one who thought the video was at 1.5 speed? I need that slow asmr kripp in my life that I can fall asleep to.
RIP Miracoli BibleThump
Juggler was a 3/2 before, miss those zoo days
it's not beh-tah its bay-tah
he says meh-ta so at least he's consistent
+Robert Jones the word beta comes from greek and it's actually pronounced as beh-ta and not bay-ta
+Robert Jones No mate it's Beh-ta, Beta is a greek letter and it's pronounced beh-ta in greek, not bay-tah
+Theologos not according to any pronunciation guide I can find in YT or online dictionary or 20 years of never hearing it pronounced that way. Though there's nothing wrong with saying meh-ta, since words are allowed to have more than one pronunciation, even if you or I aren't aware of them.

I wish you showed the pre and post card next to each other. Thatd be neat.
but......divine favor is STILL broken
it's completely shitty against another aggro.
Really? To have the same value as an arcane intellect, you just need to have 1 card less than your opponent
Some people like to remember their past events in life while Kripp is remembering old days in hearthstone lol
MOOOOOOOOOOOOM, GRANPA'S MAKIN' UP STORIES AGAIN
I recall once watching a video from back when kripp didn't know how to play hearthstone. He was playing druid against a priest, and the "light fountain" attacked him at one point. What's the best way of finding vids from that era?
Meanwhile there's been exactly ONE balance change in the time I've played the game.
+ShowToddSomeLove There'll be two in a couple weeks.
Tyler Fish Deleting half the cards in people's collections isn't a balance change. It's a money grab.
I don't mean that. They're balancing a lot of the classic and basic cards too.
+ShowToddSomeLove silly boy
Guys, he didn't MISS any nerfs. He deliberately only talked about particularly important ones.
novice engineer nerf was kinda a big deal imo
Blizzard doesn't nerf cards they permanently "fix" them.

Well, the dark iron dwarf wasnt really mentioned, he used to give +2 attack permanently and was 4 5 for 4 mana , back in open beta
"Herthstone"
"Betta"
Who the fuck talks like that?
+Ben Tarr Hurtstone*
+Ben Tarr I hate when he says Herthstone soooo much
Kripp does
Frelok01 no shit dumbass
+rennECS im not a dumbass. I just told him who talked like that: kripp. Tadaaa and btw did you need the dumbass just to make me mad?
I remember that your own secrets could once trigger on your own turn, which meant paladins played the secret that damaged the opposing hero as much as you were damaged, coupled with lights justice and hoped that the enemy would play a big minion.
Elrohof lol l always thought that was some kind of bug
Nope lol, conscious rework to hinder an upsetting game strategy.

LE0NSKA there is no strategy. Just follow the FAQ, win.

Hey, wait a minute where the fuck are all the Kripperinos !? You guys all dead or something?
I I was about to say the same thing XD
+Alphonso Giovanni about time.
+Alphonso Giovanni Why are you complaining? Its finally over. Thank God..
+Alphonso Giovanni they got nerfed
+ClassicAl ayeee
Sad part, I got a golden Leeroy from a 1-3 arena run the day after the nerf Dx
thank the Lord warsong commander was nerfed before grim patron
also imagine old undertaker with nzoth
It wasn't really though. Grim Patron / Warsong Commander / Whirlwind / Death's Bite deathrattle etc was a really popular combo for a while :P
Oh yeah, and Frothing Berserkers getting a charge effect right before you combo all that. Good times!
lol yea I remember playing old patron deck, blizzard actually needed warsong because patron completely dominated the ladder
One significant nerf I remember from beta was Defender of Argus used to be a 3/3 minion and just about every single deck in hearthstone used to play it. Now it is just a 2/3.
Had to skip Undertaker section, 2 triggered 4 me

slam is pretty common in control warrior
+SBroproductions Totally agree bro ;_; I cri evri rtm
Loke Ho Pre-Patron era it was never used. Like I said a couple still see a bit of play here and there, but most are gone.
Man just go over your collection and count the dead cards that could be so cool.... Its really sad. The effort put behind every card....in the trash
+SBroproductions Welcome to blizzard
Hey Kripp you pronounced "beta" wrong. Good job.
+Mittens Canadian, doncha know.
+Mittens No he didn't.
+Leedark3 he did in the start of the video
