What a pleasant sail! One feels like they were aboard with you. Bummer on the broken furling system. Mixed blessing with those things. Thats a hassle with the luff track trying to stow the sail, under sail and single handed...
Thankfully the furler damage was minor - the furling line and block are already repaired. My new genoa (120% vs. 135%) will be smaller and more manageable in these conditions. Given this experience, I'm less inclined to fly a partially reefed genoa in the future vs. just sticking with the staysail. I'm also going to refrain from using the power winch to furl the genoa :-)
Kind of glad I didn't have witnesses since it was 100% self inflicted. I was able to get things under control pretty quickly. Another 10 knots of wind or larger waves and it would have been pretty dangerous. I decided to heave to which made it pretty calm going up front. However, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get the genoa down with load on the sail. It turned out to be pretty easy.
I have mixed feelings. They would definitely add some security near the mast but would also become an obstruction. I will be more diligent about where I anchor my tether when I'm offshore. I am also considering switching back from slab reefing to two-line reefing to limit the number of times I have to go forward.
Maybe - I can't really rig the two-line reefing with the stack pack, but I may remove it anyways for long offshore passages. There will be other moments when I will still have to go forward, such as rigging the pole for wing and wing as well as preventers for the boom.
Awesome! A sailing UA-camr who has a real job!
Yes - I will be a weekend warrior for another year or two before I can go full time.

Great video bro. I loved that shot of Carl Vincent 🙌🏼

That looked like a fun sail!
It was a blast! Almost drama free…
Great sail. Looking forward to your next video.
More on the way!
Flying all the way. Fun sail!
Hoping I can get more of these evening sails in. They are the best.
Ah man, I wish I was there to help you with that furler situation.

Have you thought about putting Granny Bars by your mast? It looked a little precarious.

Sounds like a good compromise.
