  • There are two Highland routes that bisect Iceland - one is Sprengisandur (F26) and the other one is Kjalvegur aka Kjölur (F35). In this video we drive our Land Rover Defender on F35 which runs from Akureyri to Reykjavik. Along the way, we stop by Hveravellir geothermal area and the Kerlingarfjöll mountain range, known for incredible hiking and a true gem in the highlands. This area of Iceland can ONLY be accessed in the summer months (June-September) and requires a 4wd vehicle.
This is the final vlog in our Highlands road trip from 2020! Watch the rest of the videos here: • Highlands of Iceland

Kerlingarfjöll was so overwhelming! I think it was the most beautiful spot I’ve seen in Iceland last weeks. The colours, the ice, the hotsprings, the hikes… It’s like hiking on a different planet! Not many tourists see this, but it is definately worth the drive. Thanks for this video!

Thank you so much for all of your videos, which I use to plan my family vacay in Iceland this summer. What a beautiful county with the best tasting water and fresh air! All of your tips work out great! Thank you so much.

We visited Iceland this summer and this was also for us the most beautiful we saw. Some of the hikes are challenging though. Kerlingarfjoll is a spectacular place.

I think next summer we will come back at the end of July and I will send my family back for the start of school and live in Iceland the month of August. I live in SC and the heat and humidity are just ridiculous. I just had to kill 2 fire ant hills in my yard before my son could mow it. Loved our trip there - your e-book was a big help!

I think one of the screen savers for Apple TV is a flyover of these geothermal misty hills leading up to mountainous snowfields.

I am coming to Iceland for the second time on 20.09. I feel like we are exactly missing the timespan to visit this place 🥲 so sad, last time I came in deep winter so was clearly not possible.. but this time I was like “maaaaybe?”

Love your videos Jeannie (?) I have a question - we're planning to come to Iceland in the summer of 2024 to see the Highlands. Is it possible to spend all of our time (8 days ish) within the Highlands - that is to see all there is to see - without having to come out again onto the ring road? I am guessing the only time we'd need to leave the Highlands would be for fuel and supplies?

Hi there! Thanks for watching and for spelling my name right! 8 days in the Highlands sounds like an epic trip. I have the perfect guide to help you plan... icelandwithaview.com/product/self-drive-highlands-guidebook/ ~ You can definitely spend a full 8 days in the Highlands hiking, camping, soaking in hot springs but you're also right in that you'll need to come back into town for fuel and supplies. Happy planning!

Your videos have been very helpful for a 1st two trips to Iceland. Thank you. Just a question: how long should i budget to travel around the West Fjords, aiming to see 3-4 or the major sites? How long does it take to drive around a usual path around the West Fjords?

Hi Tito! Thanks so much for watching and I'm so glad to have helped you with your travels! Budget questions are really hard to answer because it depends on your mode of travel and the time of year. You may find my digital map of the Westfjords and my guidebooks to be super helpful (icelandwithaview.com/product-category/diy/) ~ Also, here's another about the Westfjords if you haven't already watched it: icelandwithaview.com/weekend-breathtaking-westfjords-video/

They change the tyre pressures from inside the cab. Pretty common on superjeep type vehicles.
