Joey, I went to the highlands in September driving a mid sized SUV. Did you cross either F249 or Holmsa in this van? I thought only the big boys could safely cross the bigger rivers.
@@Joey_Helms I saw that other video of the flooded vehicle. Unbelievable. I’m not familiar with Krossa, but I saw that at some point you flew near Maelifell, so I assumed you must’ve crossed Holmsa. Anyway, I checked with happy campers, and they don’t allow their vans to cross the large rivers, so I’ll be going with Arctic Trucks.
@@wwdagger Oh yeah, I did but waited for two SUVs to cross to see the depth and they stuck around until I crossed. See 7:46 Wasn't as bad at that time, but certainly can get deeper. So care is needed. Was definitely the trickiest crossing I have done. 6:51 shows the end part of that crossing
All correct! Sheep on Iceland allways (!) come in groups of three, if you only see one be prepared that two others are not far away ;-)! We managed to get a flat tire with our Duster in a river crossing but luckiely made it out of the river (July 2021). Landmannalaugur! Porsmörk! Hekla!
WOW… JUST WOW! Pretty sure that’s the most comprehensive and at the same time most epic video about the highlands of Ísland I have ever seen. Excellent!! :)
WOW! Some of the most beautiful drone footage I have ever seen of Iceland... Great video with lot's of great tips for this ultimate adventure. Definitely on my bucket list... Thank you for sharing! 🙏
Great Vlog Joey, returning to Iceland again in 2023 after a trip around the ring road in 2021. This time my daughter and I will be venturing into Westfjords and the Highlands to explore the wilderness, we have obviously rented a 4x4 and your advice, especially with regard to traversing water is invaluable. It will be in August so hopefully good conditions and won’t be venturing too far off the beaten track but F roads will be used, confident enough driving on them but your advice regarding water is very much taken on board. Can’t wait to be there and photograph such beauty, safely of course 👍📷
Love your videos Joey ! invaluable information to help my planning for 6 weeks in the Highlands in 2023 : but damn those 4x4 vans are expensive !! 4x4 car and a tent is going to have to be my mode of transport & accommodation. Subscribed and off to watch all your other videos, it could take a while !
As an Icelander I was ready to get angry because of the title and thumbnail seemingly supporting off road driving. But it turned out to be a very beautiful and informative video and you clearly stated that it's illegal and why. Good video!
You’re videos have gotten so next level. I’d love to know how you travel with multiple drones and your komodo, keep everything charged on the road, etc. Also what type of backpack you use for hiking with a camera and tripod? Seems like a lot to handle!
Great video ! Your drone shots are awesome 😍 Just a little comment on the insurance: You can actually get an insurance for damages on the car (even on the motor) while crossing a river. I found only one company which can provide it : lotus car rental. When you get a big 4x4, it's maybe not very useful but it's very reassuring with a Duster !
I have been waiting to see what you have been cooking up. Always a pleasure. If u dont mind me asking was this a personal trip you paid for or was this sponsored? Im trying to figure out how i can do stuff like this financially in my future!
What an amazing video. I’m planning a trip to Iceland in 2023 , what’s the best time to visit that is not so crowded with people. I wanna rent a 4x4 camper van to be able to see as much of Iceland as possible. Thank for your help 🙏👍🏻🚐🇮🇸
The highlands are only accessible between June and September. The deeper you go the less crowded. But the highlands in general are much less crowded and has more locals doing weekend trips.
Hi Joey I was told off roading was illegal because of the length of time it takes for moss and vegetation to grow on icelands volcanic rock. Was this an actual designated of road track which you can not deviate from or was i given incorrect advice? Thank you, another awesome film and love the Sir David Attenbrough voice over. Well done.
Yeah, you have to stay on the designated off road tracks called F-Roads. This is just simplified language because even these f roads in many places are not really roads but more a pre ridden path haha
Joey how far across would you estimate the bowl of molten lava is on the top of volcano? It's hard to tell from the pictures and video... I was thinking maybe 500' to 1000'... Tx!
At 5:56, your van cross a river and 7 or 8 small water falls just next to your car. The drone footage at this place is just epic. Where is this place called? On which f-road?
Hi Do you need some great lighting upgrade for your car to help you better driving, off-road and adventure. We're the pro auto lighting manufacturer for nearly 20 yrs and w're looking for sponsorship!

The moss and volcanic areas.

I went up to the crossing of Krossa but not go over it. That’s where I saw an SUV flooded (see my other video on off road camper canning) 😂

We know you had your ups and downs on this crazy adventure but are so excited, happy, and proud of the work you were able to create. Amazing!
Mega! Absolut fantastisches Video, tausend Dank.
Danke!!!!
Came back from Iceland 2 weeks ago. Did laugavegur and fimmvörðuháls trails with tent. Absolutely awesome country but yes, preparation is key!
Thank you Joey! New subscribers, headed to Iceland for the first time from Canada in 2023 ... Can't wait to get our adventure started!
Have a blast and welcome to the team :)

Happy to hear Kevin and you will have a blast! Agreed, for that length a tent or roof tent is the best choice
wonderful video indeed
🙌🙌
You had me at 'hello'. Subbed.
😂😂😂 thanks
Very good one! But only 6k calls, strange..!
Thanks/Danke! :)
WOW !!! That's awesome.
Thanks so much 🙌

Thanks Hilmar! Yeah never ever go off road people! But you can go off-road-1 ;)
How is it destroying nature if you drive off road vs hiking off road
Weight.

Thanks Ryan! Video about the gear I took and the backpack will come in a few weeks

Really great info.
I wish you had tagged locations of the footage, just some little footnotes saying Kerlingarfjöll and stuff
I do have two dedicated videos around those locations on my channel. Check them out ;)
I want to go sooo bad
😇
Nice video, and instructive !
Thanks a mill
Perfectly well summarized and nevertheless detailed, Joey. And as always great footgae and edit ! 👌
Thanks a million 😀
Great content brother 👍 outstanding

@@Joey_Helms awesome, thank you. September is when I was planning on going. Thanks , can’t wait to go on a vacation of a life time 😁
It’s gonna be epic. Have a blast. I will be back in March
Wow Joey, these Iceland videos are just gorgeous!! Also, how the heck did you get Sir David Attenborough to do voiceover for you????????
Thanks a million :) check my volcano documentary, that will give you the answer ;)
I'm going to watch right now :)

Thanks for the awesome video. I wanna ask, did you have good enough internet to stream videos/send emails while you were in the highlands?
Surprisingly I had reception in many spots but definitely don’t rely on it cause some places are dead zones.
hello. a great journey! you can please share with me your road? Did you record it to Guru Maps?
LE: i can pay a fee if is necesary. thanks a lot
At 5:56, your van cross a river and 7 or 8 small water falls just next to your car. The drone footage at this place is just epic. Where is this place called? On which f-road?
Found: f232 water fall crossing, Blafjallafoss.
Note that f232 is not on Google maps, but on Iceland published maps.
Toyota land cruiser 4x4 is good enough for icelandic highlands and its rivers?
Where was that place at the very beginning of the video?
☺️
Please allow captions for your videos. At least auto generated captions. Sometimes we want to watch without audio and captions would help
Hi Anfal, just added them to all my videos. Enjoy :)
@@Joey_Helms oh you are the best!! Cheers man.. keep the RED content coming..
🙌 thanks
Who did the voice over, or is it a "borrowed" David Attenborough one?
A VO artist on Fiverr
Is a toyota land cruiser suitable for these roads?
Sorry, hard for me to advise but snorkel, 4x4, and high clearance should get you there
What month were you here?
July
👏👏
can you do it on a bicycle?
Hi Do you need some great lighting upgrade for your car to help you better driving, off-road and adventure. We're the pro auto lighting manufacturer for nearly 20 yrs and w're looking for sponsorship!
Just for the information you can’t cross rivers in this car
Offroad ?? 😂😂😂
