@@TalcimeLowKey I think it isn't as popular right now because most people still access his tutorials from his ctrlpaint.com website. And I think it's a little harder for good artists to get popular in general on youtube unless they're also trying to also be an entertainer with clickbait video titles

You mentioned comic art, and I thought of Mike Mignola's use of spot black. I know he exclusively uses hard edges but I feel like he manages to get lost edges, or at least a comic equivalent with how he has characters and object sort of "fade" into black
