Wait till you’re 76. You reflect on even people not things. Music pulls me back to the era it was made. The fifties and early 60s family, Vietnam my Marine buddies, 70s the start of my marriage, 80/90s my kids music, and now after 50 years of marriage I can relive the people I love in each time period. Thank you for taking me back with your reflections.

Seger was equally perfect in concert--sounded every bit as great as his recordings, all without autotune and no lip synching. At 61 he was still running up and down the stage during his performances....absolutely two of the best concerts I ever got to see.

100, Having an eidetic memory; I hate covers and live performances because it doesn't match the time signature, Bob Seager almost never had that problem, very few artists can keep Rythm with No metronome. lol

You are correct Chevy trucks used the Like a Rock in their commericals for many years.
When Chevy first approached Bob about using his song in their ads he said no.
    However
After speaking to a plant worker for GM, Seger had a change of heart as he was reminded of his own time working for the car company. He relented and "Like a Rock" became the official anthem of Chevy trucks from 1991 to 2014.
Bob was from the Detroit area, and always wanted to do what he could to suport the local workers.
Bob has a very deep and full catalouge of songs to explore. One of the best singer songwriters of his or any other generation. THe best thing you can say about any singer/songwriter. There is not such thing as a bad Bob Seger Song.
Hollywood Nights, Her Strut, The Famous Final Scene, Feel like a Number, and Beautiful Loser are some that I think you might connect with.

Bob Seger was the Simone Biles of the music scene in his day. His support of the Michigan auto industry (he was born in Detroit) was how Chevrolet was able to use this song in their ads. He also gave a large chunk of the money he was paid to the auto workers fund. Solid Michigan guy who never forgot his roots. Solid man, solid music, period.

Seger didn't get paid much for the commercial. He did it because he was from Detroit and the American car industry, mostly from Motor City, was hurting. His backup band is called the Silver Bullet Band, and he turned down a lotmore money from Coor's Light (the "Silver Bullet") because he didn't want to "sell out..."

Late 70’s we’re a special time. My boyfriend at the time had a sister who worked at the Drive In, those were the best days of my life

That's what you call great advertising! 30 years I too think of those Chevy Truck commercials every time I hear this song.

Bob seger is an absolute legend and American treasure. He has somebody great songs that are simply perfectly written, composed, and performed.
Like a rock, Hollywood nights, main Street, night moves, against the wind, roll me away....
And trust me, as you move beyond the age of 40 and into your early / mid-50s ... Like I'm doing now ... Especially if you have children... Bob's songs will hit differently and even harder

Bob Seger represents the heart and soul of Detroit, that's why this song was chosen for a Chevy truck commercial. Just like Chrysler used Eminem's Lose Yourself. Turn The Page, Shakedown, Come To Poppa, Her Strut, Old Time Rock And Roll, Ramblin' Gamblin' Man, the list of Seger classics goes on...

Bob Seger and Johnny Cash are the two storytellers of music if you ask me. I can name four or five other absolutely amazing ones right now but something about Bob Seger and Johnny Cash can paint a picture better than anybody. There are plenty of good other storytellers but some of them just rise to the top.

Seger is one of the best to come out of the 70's. In concert, he sounds exactly the same as you hear now.
My personal favorite is 'Roll Me Away'..but the list is long.
    He's the bomb!

Seger makes you THINK! His songs speak of everyman. You can’t listen to his songs and not remember things that are personal to you and your own life.
The years of 17-21 are a magical time in the lives of most Americans. These are the years of our rebirth, a time where we debut as adults. We always remember those days when we grew from school kids living the curriculum of parents and teachers, and spread our wings into what we hoped for of our own lives. These times were made of autonomy, decisions made, failures and successes, plans and spontaneity living side by side, but everything lived in a time when our lives were still FUN! We weren't tired. We weren't burnt out. We were too young to feel like failures. The world was ours to conquer. Seger's songs harness the emotion of those times and carry us back to those magical moments and poignant memories like few artists can.
The qualities this song hails in a man are PERFECT to attach to a product you want people to feel will be an extension of themselves and will last for decades. It was a "solid" advertising investment for a company whose product they want people to equate to the strengths of a young man in his prime. Seger may not have written this song about a material object, but he likely wouldn't have licensed it out without being comfortable with the parallels between its original intent and its product-based rebirth. Seger's lyrics don't impress me as words written by someone who would turn into a sellout.
Seger can akways make us feel special by taking us back to a time when we KNEW the world lay at our feet. Now that the long walk of life has our feet aching a little, it's important to remember artists like Seger who can transport us back to those easier times just by listening to a song.

I’ve been into everything from rock to metal to folk to rap since the 80s and Bob Seger is one of my favorites. I saw his in concert in the mid 80s then numerous times over the last 12 years. He was perfect every time and an absolute gem of a human being. He allowed Chevrolet to use this song as a means to support the factory workers in Detroit and it was very successful.

He was selling out stadiums but stopped touring to help raise his son & daughter who are now a DC doctor & lawyer, and he went back on tour in his seventies, his songs are like poems. Hes definitely one of the greatest of our generation. Next you should review " Roll me away" especially if you like motorcycles!
