Buddies in the Caribbean 2011 Mini-DXpedition to Dominica Part 1

(Part 1) In Feb/2011 the "Buddies in the Caribbean" DXpedition (a group of 8-hams specializing in 100 watt or less low power radios and the Buddipole portable antenna system) spent a week operating from the island of Dominica on beaches, mountains and from their cliff-side villa. This is an annual effort to demonstrate "ultralight" dxpeditioning into magnificent "vista" locations, operate a field portable battery-only radio with back-packable, lightweight antennas and most of all "have fun!"

How many watts were you pushing on the 857?

Bushy556 usually we ran 25-30w to start things off and sometimes increasing to 50-70w if no response. Then once spotted on the cluster we dropped it to 5-10w thus saving on battery. Just hate it when you have to leave the pileup fun or end the day too early due to a dying battery!
