Sew Smarter: Introduction to Dual Feed

- Miriam Coffey explains when you would want to use Dual Feed, Walking Foot, or Janome's AcuFeed Flex system. Dual Feed is also known as Even Feed or Walking foot quilting. Dual Feed feet have feed dogs on the foot, that work together with the feed dogs on your machine to evenly grab all layers of your project evenly as it sews. Dual Feed is not only for quilting, it is also used for sewing multiple layers of fabric together, whether it's something like quilting cotton, knits, faux fur, velvet or vinyl!

Would be nice to know WHICH machines these are used on.
Thank you for your comment - since Janome has a wide range of machines and some can be discontinued from time to time, so we made this video to cover all machines. If you have questions about a particular model, please ask in one of our social media channels or see your Janome dealer. Also most of the modern models for the past 15 years can be found on our website at Janome.com. Each machine has a page that lists their specs.
Thank you very much. This was and excellent class. I am new using my 15000 that just got it this year. I am learning a bit each day. I want to use feed foot for a quilt with a bulky batting. Just one question , which setting do I have to choose to saw? I can not see AD, SD or OD. foot or any of them. I wonder if we just set in quilting where it appears A feet , is that correct . Thank you
I have had my 9450 Janome for several years now and still I learned 2 new things to use from this video. Thank-you so much for the information!
We are happy to hear this!
Thank you Miriam! I have an 8000 that I got in the late 1980’s. I also have an upgraded 15000v2 that I bought probably 10 or so years ago! They are both wonderful machines! I use my even feed feet quite often making all kinds of things! Thank you for this demo!
Great video, can the AcuFeed AD foot beused for zga zag, triple zig zag etc .. thank you
Thank you! Yes, the AD foot has the nice wide 9mm opening that allows for any of the wider Zig Zag or decorative stitches. Happy Sewing!
I had so many aha moments. I didn’t think to use the flex foot on vinyl or velvet. Thanks for the detailed info I really liked your tutorial!
I love this feet for quilting on my M7 or on my M8, thks for this video!
Thank you! Just what I needed to explain it all
Will this work on a jonome 6600
The MC6600 comes standard with its own Dual Feed foot so need to purchase anything! #29 Dual Feed Foot AD is listed on page 4 of the Instruction Manual.
So helpful!!!
Good information
This is very informative, I have a 9450 and will start utilizing my feet better. I am always learning something new with this machine, and I really enjoy sewing on it. ❤
We are so happy to hear this! And yes, the learning always continues ...
Thank you😊 - do I need to alter tension - I have Janome Horizon & it always does teeny tiny stitches even after increasing stitch length.
You should not need to alter tension- when using a Dual-feed foot typically you just need to increase stitch length if you are sewing through thicker layers.
Which needle would you suggest for the vinyl or making a bag
Our red tip needle is best for these scenarios.
Wish you could have shown how to hook the dual feed foot hooks into the back. Also which stitch is the serpentine stitch and what settings are best to use when quilting with cotton vs poly batting + how to avoid back ripples - thanks
Whoops I forgot - I am using a 6700p
#08 on the Janome Horizon MC 6700P
Thank you
the more I watch your videos the more I realise that you are so talentedin video making
