The Bulleta combo is even crazier when you consider that the game skips frames. It's played at Turbo 3 speed in tournament so every 4th frame is skipped, including any inputs you did on that frame. It also means 2f links can become 1f links and 1f links can just fail
@@squidee yeah I think most of the classic Capcom FGs do this. Maybe not the CPS3 games like JoJo and 3S, but definitely all the CPS2 games and some Naomi games like Marvel 2 and CvS
Sako is not only a combo Master, he's a potential characters savior too.. he proved always to recognize top tier characters on 1st days of a game, remember when he won capcup with low tier evil ryu, and after been buffed he advised daigo to play with him, sako than switched to his signature chracter ibuki. He also played chunli and switched to menat which feat to his style and was sooo hard to play.. and won a major or two with her.... such a Master..
Absolutely. The guy broke his hand and decided to recuperate by doing the exact same insane combos as always, just with one hand. The fact that he essentially rebuilt his execution and muscle-memory from scratch just for the sake of a temporary display of showmanship is insane.
There are still people whining about Modern Controls being cheating and will bring up how "some guy" made it to top 6 at Evo with them to fight "old school players" and it is so funny every time.
Lmao the first 15 seconds of the Sajam video thing is soooo real. It's funny the ways you learn to trim the fat in combo videos the more you make them. haha
This might not be the exact same thing you were talking about, but I remember watching a video a while back where Hikaru was coaching someone, and in the video he said he thinks safe jumps aren't the strongest okizeme due to the perfect parry yomiai, then he said a stronger situation is +5 and also being able to walk back out of throw range without a backdash, like when you use 6hp as a frame kill at +44 in the corner
You feeling that way when Sako got the input error on that level 2 is how I felt when I saw Valmaster accidentally do jump heavy punch in the middle of Chun’s BnB combo in SFL…I’m always annoyed when it happens but I felt a little better seeing such a great Chun player make a similar mistake lol
at around 18:52 you talked about the japanese players not really going for safejumps and its not just aki i dont think, i noticed it with a lot of the chun players too
Always loved sako, feel like he didn't really have much room to show just how good he really is join this game since a lot of the technical stuff isn't in this one (like jump cancel combos, 1 frame links, kara cancels etc) we need a cviper character in this game
Not just combos, Sako is creative with new techniques. He is a big reason why T Hawk in Super Turbo blew up around 2012.... along with the community learning about his negative edge techniques (and a negative edge option select), we have the "Sako tick." This is when you whiff neutral light punch, input a 360 during its animation starting up and ending in forward while also pressing all punch buttons and holding them down, then you walk forward while piano releasing the punches. You have a few frames of walking forward when his 360 will come out, and it is a tool you NEED to learn in certain matchups. Hawk went from the worst character in the game to MAYBE a mid tier. Imagine taking a game that old and breaking tier lists wide open.
Sako as long as I've been paying attention to him has never really done the "optimal" thing. He does something unique to him that's cool and close enough, lol
15:00 learning SF6 from an anime fighter background. I know you said air-to-air works here, but would a quick movement option also work? That way you can retreat under him to gain distance and start zoning? (Any answers appreciated im still trying to figure out a lot of the advantageous situations in this game)
Sako is always so fun to watch. I tried Kage on SF5 after seeing some cool stuff from him. His SF4 chun was quite interesting with lighting legs pressure, but where way to difficult for me.
lowkey sako knowing the whole drive rush delayed overhead/low, while for sure still impressive, is almost def a case of fgc connections doin' their thing
SF4 though, plinking was the default, not sure if he plinked, double tapped, or just did it frame-perfect. After about year, ppl learned how to plink jabs and shorts. Shoutouts to the C.Viper greats like Latif - wish her character was brought back - *that was a dead-ass executional barrier that even a lot of pros didn’t bother with, though I’m sure Sako could have done it, with his left hand precision.
does it sound insane to add an option to change the input buffer to whatever you like from like 1-5 frames? I dunno if that's a good idea but that's my first thought with the buffer problem
2 cents: I don't play Smash at all, but did find the term "Hunger Strike" objectively hilarious when watching some old EVO coverage. Sako to me will always be known not for the combo, but for the tick throw with T Hawk in ST.
I’ve had also many times the buffer got me going from crouching to back to walk back and got super instead of standard specials. I hate it. That’s not execution error at all.
Why you getting mad that Broski was like 2 years off on his age 😭 is he supposed to immediately know everyone in the FGC's exact birthdate? 45, late 40s, who cares lmao
@@ArtieOfAstora Dude, I'm in my late 30's. When I get to my early 40's I want to be referred to as the guy in his early 40's until the very second I turn 47. lol Getting old sucks.
When I played Juri sometimes I'd do poke into store and got poke into lvl3 instead, it's so annoying because you get punished very harshly for flailing a super already and you lose a bunch of meter on top of that, you can totally lose a game because of it.
Lv2, but yeah. Marisa is the worst feeling of the bunch. Crouch into superman punch aka, neutral, will get you lv1 and you die on the inside when it happens
15:45 I believe Sako doesn't do DI punish because John Takeuchi has been doing the mixup followup anytime someone perfect parries that recently, so if they DI it's an airborne DI hit and you get way less. Not 100% certain though.
Probably depends on what character you're playing and how good their juggle options are, but for AKI specifically i'd still recommend the DI. She gets good juggles out of it on air connect, and you also take nearly a bar of drive from your opponent.
Sakonoko also had a beastly Cammy in Vanilla SF4. One of the unfortunate effects of the introduction of the 4 Frame link buffer is that people like Sako don't really exist anymore.
Wonder if playing on the bathroom stage helped him with realizing the spacing for the EX fireball combo. Every japanese player I've seen plays on that stage only. Glad Sako is playing AKI now. I loved watching his Chun when I was playing the char as well and was so sad when he dropped her for Akuma.
Sako is the reason Capcom nerfed Cammy in SF4 Vanilla, Menat in season 3 of SF5(nerfed her to the hell). He always find fun with combo character. He'played Aki for 2 months(his Akuma top 16 in Japan WW #4 in November, 2024). I feel if Capcom release a specialist combo type character, he will have more result(season 1,2 in both sf5 and 6, he both played Chun and Akuma and not have good results)
Actually you can cross-cut with AKI's heavy whip. Do the 236 late (just as they are about to pass over your head) and then delay the hp a bit and it should auto-correct. But it is significantly more difficult than cross-cut DP
The accidental level 2 stuff is driving me nuts. I play Cammy but the amount of time that I've tried spin knuckling through a fireball, gotten a level 2 instead, landed directly in front of the opponent in perfect punish range and lost the game is infuriating. I think its from me crouching, backing up a few steps, and then attempting a spin knuckle. Why capcom! This didn't happen until they changed the input from K to P and now its at least once a session that it happens. Basically throws the whole set wasting all my meter and making me take the fullest of punishes
