- Here is my bass cover of "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia from her 1998 album "Left of the Middle".
This is a recording I did about a year ago that wasn't allowed on UA-cam at the time. For whatever reason the copyright rules changed on this particular song so now i'm able to post it.
I'm really fond of playing the part at 2:31. I think it's actually a guitar part, but it sounds pretty cool on bass.
The song was originally written by the band Ednaswap, (Scott Cutler, Anne Preven, and Phil Thornalley).

Yes!! When I look for a cover, and find you did it, it is like striking gold!
Im so glued on how he used his right hand so gracefully
Excellent ! Love the part 2:31 !
Awesome Sounds.
Excellent!
Great video good job!! You are really good bass player!
It's an incredible cover. You've got a lot of talent. My bass never sounded like that. I love the eyebrow raise when you hit a wrong note at 2:12 - and you still posted the video... That's awesome! It seems like everyone does 100 takes to get a perfect one to post, or cobble the video together. Real musicians make mistakes. :)
Sweet cover. What bass are you playing?
Magnífico ❤
Nice groovy playing, man! 2:38 neat lick

i get so tired of that copyright crapola....everybody knows who wrote it...and theyve made there millions....what does it hurt to post it......youtube is bad about that with beatles stuff......
Effortless!
neutral = bland
You know, you can edit your own comments, no need to make a separate post. Separate posts won't necessarily end up close to your original comment, so the context of your "correction" might be lost. Just a tip.
Sorry, I don't really get it... In what way would this be constructive? A rather simplictic bass line, with a rather neutral rendition - anything special here???
@@Radagast27 You're quite wrong, actually, in the sense that I didn't "win" or even had any intention to do so... Trolling works both ways, my friend. If you choose to expose yourself on the "look-at-me, look-at-me" medium that is UA-cam, you'd better be able to take some criticism. I'd never tell anybody they sucked - all I did was call you out on a simple question. The profanity you felt was appropriate for replying to that question proves to me that you deserve all the criticism, or, in your words, trolling, that you'll get.
Joachim van Zoelen Hmm, you’re right, that was an inappropriate response. Took it down.
Joachim van Zoelen My question still stands though. Do you think this play along should have been more accurate or more improvised? Or are you simply saying that it’s pointless to post mere playing and I should include tabs or a breakdown or whatever. I want to understand what you’re looking for.
@@Radagast27 Hard to say, really, what I'd be looking for myself... something that sticks with me, I guess. In most cases that would be feel, but it can also be technique, playing style or a number of other things. Now that we have gained some better mutual understanding, I'd say that as a play along, or in other words a way of providing other musicians with the possibility to learn a song, I'd say your videos make perfect sense.
@@joachimvanzoelen4236 Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I feel better about this interaction now. Sorry about my strongly worded initial response. I admit I indeed don't have a very thick skin, but you're right that I should learn to take criticism or mere questions in stride and not take everything so personally, and certainly shouldn't lash out. And I'll keep your comments in mind for when I do future videos. My performance quality largely depends on the song I'm playing and how much I care about it. A LOT of my videos are admittedly terrible, but I'd like to think that some are quite good. Moving forward, I'll likely only post songs that I either truly like or have some purpose behind them, rather than banging out a simple song just because I CAN play it to some degree even if there's no passion to it. At the very least I'm planning to post some vids of songs I learned for several musicals I've done lately. It's a funny thing, cover bands and UA-camrs that post "bass covers" often get flack for simply copying the original's playing, but performing musical theater doesn't typically garner similar criticism even though it's essentially the same thing, just using a slightly different means of doing it - following the show's sheet music. I think the difference is probably because with plays, it's usually understood that improvisation it frowned upon since it might mess up the actors, so there is never any push to "make it your own" (other than occasional sections that allow a few unique fills here and there). But anyways, for other general song selections, I WILL try to make it my own at least in some way through technique, playing style or whatever. Peace.
