I played Disco Elysium and fell in love with it! I had a multitude of flaws but the fact that I love is anyways speaks to just how powerful and incredible it’s strengths are. I was really surprised to find very little content for Disco Elysium tho! Especially on UA-cam! So naturally I decided to make my own! I hope y’all enjoy!

First, let's make this absolutely clear. No one is saying you're an *actual* superstar in the groupies-and-cocaine, riddled-with-hepatitis-C, strikes-a-lionesque-pose-with-a mic kind of way. You’re not Guillaume le Million or Davy Dewis, no. You're a *metaphorical* superstar. You bring that rock-and-roll authenticity and passion to a line of work where people don't expect (or want) to see it. Where, some would say, it doesn't *belong*: law enforcement.

I just love that Harry's clothes change in almost every frame, that's so real. I am CONSTANTLY backing out of dialogue trees, changing my clothes for stat bonuses, and going back in to roll the dice. Kim keeps telling me that we need to have a talk about my "style" and I'm like buddy.... do you SEE my frog visor? I've GOT style.
Gotta win those MOT skill checks so better take off your disco pants again and again. :,D I found myself switching to different items Harry held on his hands though, because so many of the dialogue trees take that into consideration and there's always a hidden joke to be found!

YOU GET IT. Yeah it’s a game about a hopeless world but it’s ALSO a game about community and helping your fellow man and the ability to change, it’s Harry’s second chance, it’s him being able to make reparations and become a sillier happier person who’s life is worth living
I know this comment is old -- sorry. But yes! That's what I'm really loving as I fall deeper into this rabbit hole. I got the game on Black Friday and have been obsessing since. And yes, there's a lot of cruelty and pain and real-world problems. But there's just so much kindness and hope as well. It's beautiful

I really really love this video. Harry often gets portrayed as a complete and total disaster, but I like seeing a better view on how you can truly be a good person, and change his life for the better. A more hopeful Harry, wanting to right the wrongs of his past.

I like to think, thay as much of a mess as he is, beneath the pain, alcoholism, repressed memories, politics, and all of his weirdness Harry is still just a high-school gym teacher who wanted to make a difference.
Oddly enough this feels like it shouldnt work, but it does so well.
Many people focus on the fall of Harry, especially in animatics like this. Which is fair, its a very important part of how we know him, and relatable to almost everyone who plays the game. But what we seem to forget is that the story is just as much about Harry's rise as his fall.
And you have encapsulated that perfectly. Showing Harry enjoying life as he can, and trying to form new connections over being held back by the ones he once had. Either by helping find the cryptids, establishing a disco club, or singing in the whirling. All of it gives such a texture to the world, because its all followed by the fight with the Mercs and the brutal violence in the red that wasnt seen in the video up till then. Combined with how Harry goes from thinking of his lost lover to the present moment to warn kim, its wonderful.
Because in the end he is able to pull himself out of the past and its hold on him to ensure the people he loves and are with him in the present live.
Yeah about that last one....

I have no idea why game decided to pick the AUTHORITY option there, -3 authority be like. (I did had multipliers 1+ and 2+, but that didn't help)

It's funny how I know this one UA-cam streamer refuses to play Disco Elysium (because one person said it was boring) and when someone typed in chat "But you can be gay", they unironically put on Dancing Queen and said, "I can be gay right now!". They're truly missing something beautiful.
I feel like everyone's Harry is different but very particular to them. They *know* who Harrier Du Bois is, and their Harry is very firmly formed in their mind. For me, my Harry is a genuinely kind, artful and slightly dopey himbo who deeply cares about the people around him, but doesn't care about himself very much. He drinks to numb his pain, smokes to look cool and impress Kim and takes great joy in the little things in life. Of course, nobody takes him seriously and he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a gun. He's carrying around so much trauma because he just can't let go of himself or the people in his past, and part of why he's become such a mess is that for a time he lost his ability to empathize. Without that, there was nothing tying him to the world, and he was days away from ending it all before his memory loss gave him another chance.
Will he live to see 60? Probably not. Will people miss him when he goes? Without a doubt
To me Harry was unable to let go of his pain and he was hurting everyone around him as a result (and having Jean as a partner was probably not helping - they were dragging each other down), so losing his memory (and having Kim around as a patient, kind, and calming influence) was the best opportunity he had to pull himself together.
Harry when he only has points in empathy
Something that helps make this hit is... this was my playthrough. I also gave the girl the hat, I also got the little girl back inside the shop. I helped invent electronica, I taught the kids the proper way to dance! So on, so forth. As soon as I realized what kind of DISASTER Harry was, I made a deliberate decision that I was going to do everything I could to help him pick up the pieces.

Same! Just recently finished my first playthrough. There were a few things I didn’t end up having in this video (Ruby 😬 was rough), but there are so many fun little moments with all the characters that were so heartwarming! Especially in contrast to everything you learn about him throughout. It culminating in the childlike wonder I felt with the phasmid was insane (especially when I didn’t give up on the quest, see that Kim, it’s there!). The despressing moments were definitely there, but the game balances it out very well if you manage to interact enough with the range of characters.
The way you've drawn Harry's moustache is incredibly cute.
1:41 is lovely. Harry at his absolute lowest, and he still sacrifices for the people with less than him. He really is a miracle.

Loved the video, but I also love how people who have made animations/animatics for this game chose probably from their own playthrough. There's another called good life where the creator definitely jumped to reach evrart and used the spirit bomb during the tribunal sequence, as well as warn kim during that event.
You made Harry so full joy and whimsy :) makes me so happy seeing him just be a little drawing.
@@princessfetus yeah. I know last people see Harry as an extremely sad and depressed man (which he is) but I always thought he was at least equally someone who is learning to live again and re-experiencing all of life with the energy and excitement one can only have with fresh new eyes

This is a really wonderful video, really excels at showing how disco can be the most beautiful game despite being coated in filth. Especially loved the detail of switching out the horrific necktie for the one Lena gives you at the tribunal.

я это видео пересмотрела уже бесчисленное количество раз, и с уверенностью могу сказать что это лучший аниматик по диско элизиуму из всех что я видела, а видела я их, поверьте уж, много. все персонажи такие милашки и круто нарисованы, стиль просто шикарный. и под конец сцена с трибуналом каждый раз мурашки вызывает. это просто шедевр

i come back to it ALL the time. it's just so perfect. Disco Elysium and this video give so many new dimensions to this song, it actually makes me wanna cry now each time i listen to it/watch this video.
it's everything- the good, the bad, the positive, the negative, the beautiful, the ugly, love, hate, success, failure, vibrancy of life and brutality of death. being so in love with life despite it all, and just dancing, dancing, dancing, and living. so vibrant and alive. this is what Disco Elysium is about. this is what harry is all about! he's a shining, burning star, so in love with people as a whole, always searching for connections. dancing, having the time of his life, just because he exists. no matter what's happening. running on the coast, checking cryptid traps, getting a bullet out of a guy's head, buying a froggy visor, swinging on a swing. clinging to life, no matter what, despite it all, despite it all... the dancing queen, eternally dancing on life's dancefloor...
3:02 i adore this whole video but this has to be my most favourite moment. the way the music gets more vibrant, it never fails to bring me chills. i like to imagine him slowly opening his eyes and his hair billowing in the wind...
and in the end, harry saved kim. it all led to this. through the damage and the heartbreak, he managed to save him.

Wow! I just finished this game and realized you’d done an animatic for it-have loved your AA, Zelda, and other animatics. This very much captured so much of the joy and fun of Disco Elysium, as well as the story. The Froggy visor shot especially had me grinning; it was cool seeing the various costumes in different moments. Love it all so much!!!

God, even after so long. Coming back to this video brings me back. Even though it was just earlier this year when I got into Disco Elysium. Time passed and stuff has changed, found out I've had undiagnosed ADHD for most of my life, I fell in love with; never properly expressed my feelings for; cried about/around a girl who I still think about and am currently hitting the tail end of my schooling. 18 years doesn't feel long but it isn't short either, I've learnt so much but that includes the scale of knowledge being so much larger than I thought. Feelings, dreams, friends and so much more I've experienced all in this time. All coming back to this video, this game, this song. Still magnificent. Hope you're well.
