Today, we are breaking down the first episode of the new D'Amelio show...yes. Charli D'Amelio and her family now have their own reality show on hulu. We were super intrigued by this and decided to watch the first episode and MAN were we shocked by what we saw.

it broke my heart how the entire episode dixie was like “i’m so excited about vogue what a wonderful opportunity!!!” and then it ended like that :/. i literally cried for 5 minutes.

Totally agree that tiktokers/influencers shouldn’t be criticized for taking opportunities that are given to them. Like I totally get why Dixie would want to produce music or Addison Rae gets to star in a Netflix movie. However, I think we can criticize someone’s performance of these opportunities. When you’re that famous and have access to so many resources, at least TRY to make an effort you know? I can’t comment on Dixie I’m sure she is trying (her songs aren’t as bad as people try to make it sound) but for Addison Rae acting, it just bothered me that you could see she didn’t try to get real training and I’m positive she wasn’t giving it her all.
So yeah, don’t blame them for doing what they want to do. However just like anything else we can be critical of those projects (which is not the same as sending hate)

As someone who lives in Connecticut, I would just like to stress how huge the income inequality in this state is. Like, one of the worst states in the country regarding income inequality. And they are from the richest part of Connecticut that is so removed from the rest of the state. That for sure has played a huge part in their upbringing, and to an extent their success.
Yes! I’m so glad you brought this up and I only go to university in CT but I was surprised at how wide the income inequality is. I thought people would bring this up in regards to their situation.
I feel like a lot of tik tokers get criticised for taking opportunities when anyone in their position would do the exact same thing! e.g. Dixie, Addison Rae, etc.
Not to be the devil's advocate, but maybe it's hard for the parents to deal with it all too. Imagine growing up without social media, having little to zero time to learn about it yourself and then having to help your children deal with it in a way you have never dealt with it or known you would ever need to deal with it. I completely believe that it is the parents obligation to keep their stuff together and help their children, but they are people and they might not know how to do that.
Heidi was a model tho…so shouldn’t she know about social media?

I watched this and it really does show what becoming famous by accident brings and it makes me feel bad for them going through that because people liked what they did and got them famous. They didn’t ask for this…. To be famous.. and comes with it is anxiety, hate, stress, depression…. It really brings to light what they went through for posting for fun turned into a whole job. They barely get to be kids and new adults. It’s sad… I now have so much respect for them it’s unreal.

I personally love the series. I binged the entire first season it truly is amazing for what it is. There is one part that's like woah wtf her parents (takes a shot) invited her EX over to dinner like yeah good for her being friends with her EX but the vibe he gave off during dinner is just nasty

i need u guys to react to the hype house reality show on netflix. it’s literally so absurd and crazy. basically the main guy that runs the hype house is like “make tiktoks everyday” or “you cant eat until you post a sponsorship tiktok with bang energy drink” it’s… the show is a waste of space and i watched it in one day and hated it.

I love this because the way that Dixie and Charlie get trolled and disrespected online is quite sad. From what I've heard they literally have no controversies and have done nothing wrong. They are literally just kids. The way you break it all down is really nice and its good to see you gving the show a fair shot. This kind of show is not really my thing but i know that it would be very a very interesting look into their lives and struggles.

Literally one of the main points people use to sort of defend hate is "Well they put themselves on the internet they should expect and deal with it" like huh?! I'm sorry. I didn't know that a teen girl following a trend that she thought would be fun to do on the internet meant she had to deal with people calling her names and being complete assholes for no reason

This shows that being rich from social media is hell because you can't actually enjoy any of the cool stuff you get to do because hateful jerks won't let you. These two would've had great lives without being famous probably... watching their show was depressing af and I couldn't imagine why the parents kept saying they would just all go home if something happened that was too much and then like SO many things kept happening that were TOO MUCH. People on the internet will always find a reason to crap on anything small thing they do or say... not worth it
“This is such a miss for actually caring for her well-being” uhhhhhh you could say that about everything that they are involved in.
You will see later where dance is kind of ruined for Charli bc of all of this. It used to be such a release for her & now it's not. I absolutely hate that for her. I hate that social media has taken away something so precious to her. You also see her get really real & need a break. I will give the parents credit for this. After that happens, they set very clear guidelines for time frames for working with Charli. So that she has time to just be 16 & be a kid. I really hope Hulu orders more episodes because these 8 were good.... edit: but it shouldn't have taken Charli breaking down for her parents to set those guidelines.
I thought it was really sad that charli was so anxious about the time 100 thing. It's like she can't be proud of that achievement, because it is an achievement, because she knows people will only hate on her. I understand why people would feel that she doesn't deserve to be on there and so does charli, but at the end of the day she didn't choose to be on the list and she should be or atleast have the opportunity to be proud cause it's (apparently) a huge deal (I'm not from the US so I've never heard of the list before or maybe I'm too young haha)
