- This movement was simply gummed up.
I oiled the critical points and warmed the old lube with a heat gun.
You should see it come to life.
Thank you! My dad passed a few months ago. I took the clock but it didn’t work. I found this video and dissemble the clock. I lubricated just like you said and now it works! Every time it chimes I will be reminded of him. What a gift. I could not be happier!

I followed this video exactly, and I successfully got my clock running again. A local clock shop wanted over $500 to repair! This clock was gifted to my mother-in-law after 30 years at Standard Oil. She went on to become the first woman officer of Standard Oil, so it has a huge sentimental value to us. Thank you!

I know this video is 2+ years old but I have to post . I inherited my parents Howard Miller mantle clock with the identical case and it would chime but not run. The mechanism is a 1050-020. I had a repair look at it and told me it was to much trouble to fix . Another was interested but wanted $960.00 to clean and service it. I tried the hairdryer trick for 2-3 minutes and it has been running since!!! I realize I need to lightly oil it but this video was 110 % useful.
The lubricant used in the mainsprings, is not the same, and you need to remove the barrels to service them properly.
dang your so rough on that clock i have one that my grandpa got from working in the shop and it needs lubed and cleaned but if i seen a clock shop be that rough on it they would be made to stop and it would go to someone that isn't going to beat it to death
not sure why he handled the clock that way... very strange.

thanks for the video, but you baffled me on one part. The very first thing you lubed was off camera and you did a fast forward past it. I don't know what you did. I have the exact same clock and have lubed all the other pivots and it's still locked up. Can you enlighten me on which part you lubed there at about the 5:20 mark? thanks.
I think those rubber hammer head tips should have been replaced, not glued back in. Tone is off. Otherwise, hey, you got it running!
Clock repair is like anything else. You pay for it to be done properly.
I have some something similar to my clock, mine has an Urgos UW 6/68, took me about 3-4 hours to reassemble since I had to get the warning pins timed correctly, but it’s back in working condition, I also restored the case, it’s a New England pillar and scroll clock

I wish you'd have a video on how to adjust the timing wheel. I just can't find where to set the levers to either speed it up or slow it down.

there is no such thing as overwound. if it were in fact overwound the spring would be snapped and you would need so much force on the key to do this the key would probably also be damaged
I have this clock. The clock is working and keeping perfect time. But it won't chime. Suggestions on possible causes?

It's a bracket clock. Carriage clocks were small travel clocks, in brass cases.

I believe I have that same clock but when playing melody one of the chimes sounds funky, like dead. How to correct that? Seems like your clock was doing the same thing.

Gary, If you look at the striking hammers, while they are at rest, they should be about 1/8 inch or a little more, above each rod. If one is too close to a rod, or even touching a rod, the sound will not reverberate and you will get a "thud" sound instead. There are a few videos on you tube showing how to adjust the rods with a slight bending of the wire. You can also lift each rod, one at a time, let it drop, to see which one sounds funky. Hammers should also be directly over each rod it strikes and not touching a neighboring hammer. Also, if a rod is not seated properly in the chime block, that can make it fail to resonate properly as well. Nobody answered your question so thought I would chime in. Hope you get yours sorted out.

@@time4clocksI have a very similar Seth Thomas clock as this one, and everything works perfectly except for one thing: the timing of the chime strikes is slightly off, and the final note of the Westminster hour chime tone fails to sound because the subsequent tolling starts too soon. Any advice on how to correct this???
@@dm8057bk I'm very sorry, dm8047bk, but I cannot help you. I only know a few things about clocks as an amateur so on this issue I cannot help you. Good luck though, there are some nice clock channels on youtube. 😁
