Many thanks for this one, Chewy. This really helped my finishes. I was at a point where I was squeezing as hard as I could with little to no taps. The shoulder position made all the different and I found the s-grip to be very effective for me.
Thank you for these fantastic videos. 8 weeks into my BJJ journey and completely hooked. Your teaching has helped me so much in a short time and gives me something to work on before I train at my club.
Hey chewie Ive always been having trouble with this submissions so I’ll take notes, but I have a question. Is it rude to tell somebody when they don’t have a submission? I’ve gotten caught in north south chokes, guillotines, and arm triangles with they clearly aren’t choking me but will tug and squeeze for over a minute to where I tap purely due to annoyance factor but they don’t gain anything from it. They think they got the tap but I don’t want to be the scumbag to be like “oh you didn’t have it I tapped because it was annoying” any suggestions?
I want to hear Chewie's thoughts on this as well but in my opinion it's how you go about saying it. If you stay quiet they will think they're doing the right thing but in a way you're halting their progress. If we're in a position for a long time and they keep applying force and trying hard to finish it, I usually say something along the lines of ''Hey man, I have some breathing space this way, try getting a tighter hold of me'', and then I let them finish the submission once they get it right. In that way they don't think I am a dick but instead I'm just doing my best to help them (and myself!)
@@bagoftricks6985 yep. Nothing wrong with helping them out if it ain't working. Better that than sitting getting your neck cranked for 5 minutes needlessly.
I tell people all the time they dont have it, for a few reasons. 1. I dont wanna tap No jk. But seriously, if they dont have it they should know theyre not doing it right, especially since doing something can cause injury (a poor choke with some yoked dude can accidentally crank your neck) it also stalls the roll which is just time wasted.
@Kade Hicklin go back on Chewie's channel three months, look for a video titled "...BJJ Blue Belt Pisses Off Black Belt...". It parallels your question from the other side of the coin. I think you'll find your answer at 3:28.
This is great just in time for me, yesterday we did shark tank sparring to get ready for an upcoming tournament... I got into this position like 3 times and🤔 I couldn't finish it... now I know what things to work on 👍
hey chewy i like your videos dont get me wrong i just think the name of this position is katagatame (because its hand with hand) while triangle is when the hand goes in the biceps instead. Just a names thing; great technique as always. Keep the good work, thanks for sharing!
hello am a mma fighter and i really like this choke but idk how to block the second artery with your opp sholder the first artery is easy to block but idk how to drive the ur partner sholder into his artery can u tell me how to do it and is it recommended to use this choke in mma or not ? and thank you for the video
I'm gonna try for this move next time. I often get lucky enough to get in full mount but too often I go for americana or gi choke. I don't wanna become too one dimensional.
I’ve been getting mount finally so frequently and I couldn’t get the tap due to being on the chin this helps a lot but I also run into them readjusting the arm and almost getting out everytime I try to readjust under the chin any thoughts ?
Hi Chewy. Thanks for this video! Unrelated question: I've been looking at a black origin gi like that and we have a similar build. I currently use a gameness and it's pretty heavy and coarse. Looking for a little bit lighter option. Would you recommend that gi?
I have the same Gi. It’s pretty comfortable and light weight. If you decide to get it be sure you get the “pro pants” instead of the basic pants which are garbage. The pro pants age legit. It’s a very comfortable light weight Gi.
I am use to the classic grab the bicep technique to finish. I never tried this grip before with that technique. Would you suggest this grip over the classic hand on bicep one? I have skinny arms and sometimes I have to use a lot of strength to finish the move.
Hey chewy, I recently started training again after a ten year hiatus and one of the guys at my gym goes almost exclusively for neck cranks and air chokes, should I say something or just continue to tap when in these annoying positions?
Maybe Li’l Phil has trouble with the arm triangle because he’s li’l. With some of the really big guys in my gym, my arms don’t even reach long enough to use this move.
My wife hates when you show us adjustments like this. I can't wait to try this one when she gets home!
🤣🤣🤣
Damn
Dont be trying this on your kids or ye dogs
I like how Adam is keeping his arm ready to tap any moment...just like me 90% of the time LOL
Anton M u get no love for this bitchmade shit
Lol

Dammit, Adam. You crack me up before the damn videos even get started. Love you, bro!
Nice Origin Gi Chewy, I have the same one! Good to see you are a Jocko fan
Adam's eyes in the intro - such intensity

Ur right chewie I do want to make them go night night
Leo Vieira showed the same adjustment at a seminar. Great stuff
This video got me two subs at training last night. Thank you!
That’s the best video I have seen from you yet!
Fun to see that Adam has his emergency tap right up
Loved the phone toss!!! Awesome.
Thank you. Everytime I was trying this I was to high on the chin which made it more like a chin crank than a choke
Very technical thanks
Great video brother. And keep Adam in it it stays super funny no matter how many times i see it 👊🏻👍🏻😂

Don't tap, once they tire themselves out, then you tell them.

Pretty cool, I was missing that little adjustement.
"That good choke that makes them go night night" - I literally snorted when you said that cause I wasn't expecting it

Keep us updated on the tournament! Are you competing!?
I will be competing in Tacoma, Washington... The Revolution 40 Tournament at Pacific Lutheran University July 20th
@@chadmichaels1896 since I've seen the video I've been successful with this triangle choke 🤗
@@jazg3610 congratulations!
I won gold in Gi and silver in NoGi in The Revolution 40 in Tacoma, Washington this past Saturday
Is that "Blue Steel" Adam? Dear god it's beautiful.
Your bodyguard scares me.....
Wow I can't wait to try that thanks for that tip thank you thank you
Hey Adam do you want to go have ice cream then play legos by the willow trees? I got my mom's minivan!
Stellar !

That is why he made that little disclaimer at the end
So simple, thank you!
Thank you master
I'm not sure Chewy prefers the typical master/slave relationship.

Dean lister showed me a cool grip for arm triangle
Nbd
Isn’t the intro from a wu-tang clan song? If it is can you tell me the name of it? I’m talking about the original intro btw
Chewie could you do one video similar to this one but with the normal triangle?
I'm gonna try for this move next time. I often get lucky enough to get in full mount but too often I go for americana or gi choke. I don't wanna become too one dimensional.

The way I do it I perfer to sit out instead of lying down. My whole body is putting pressure on the choke works great
He's not lying, his hips are in the air. But you have a good point, I was told, that lying in arm triangle is a typical beginers mistake.
Hey chewy, I recently started training again after a ten year hiatus and one of the guys at my gym goes almost exclusively for neck cranks and air chokes, should I say something or just continue to tap when in these annoying positions?
What could you say? If those are his moves of choice then learn to defend. Until you learn to defend... tap.
Wow. The bald gentleman doesn't blink.
Maybe Li’l Phil has trouble with the arm triangle because he’s li’l. With some of the really big guys in my gym, my arms don’t even reach long enough to use this move.
Are you able to finish if you’re in their half guard?
How does Adam stay so still? Lmao! 😂
😂😂 love the vids!
What if someone has really bad breath every time you roll with him? Please make a video on that.
Just tap lol
Tell it like it is
What if he just keep tucking his chin, because he knows this sequence? I’m having trouble
0:42 Chewy's alt channel?
Your assistant is funny
I can finish arm triangles, but it feels more like a neck crank.
I find Adam quite frightening.
Adams face 😂
So the tough looking guy is just here to be choked .. Lol
Why is homeboy eyeing up the camera in the beginning
For those prom dates
adam
Chew tapped but Adam didn't let go! Not cool man😉

It's nice how he just lays there and let's you do whatever you want to him Chewy. I enjoy that in my playmates as well. XD
Did adam lose weight?
In Catch wrestling you can do this. But I understand that bjj is the gentle art. And Catch wrestling is the violent art.
He's just trying to tell Everybody through his expression that everything he did what an effective in incorrect
