1+1 296 Youri talks to Jay Watts on trade war between US & Canada & Claudia's 1st 100 days in Mexico

Hi everyone! on this edition of 1+1, our all Latin America edition, all things Mexico edition, and to a degree all things Canada edition, I had the honor to speak to Jay Watts the former Central Organizer of the Communist Party of Canada, a member of Mexico Solidarity and an anti-imperialist activist and all round leftist campaigner, a photographer and historian. On the program Jay and I talked about the trade war that has been launched by the Trump Administration which has the US hitting Mexico and Canada with 25 percent tariffs. Before the retaliatory measures launched by certain provinces or those proposed by the leader of the official opposition Pierre Poilievre's Conservative Party and Justin Trudeau's official statements, TVO and CBC had segments on what would be the benefits of Canada being part of the US, or "how dare Trump treat us like a poor country filled with Brown people", when all of that was happening Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico and current leader of the centre-left Party Morena had a brilliant response to Trump's threats to annex/take over the Gulf of Mexico, which Jay and I talked about.
This episode we look at how much NAFTA has integrated the US-Canadian economies, how Canada's outsourcing of job to Mexico to use the Mexican workers as cheap labour how that badly impacted Canada's domestic job market, and we spend a good deal of time looking at Claudia Sheinbaum's first 100 days and once more, why is the Western left, and its left leaning press overlooking so much of the positive developments happening in Mexico? all of this and more on this edition of 1+1.

Before we talk about the incredible first 100 days of Claudia Scheinbaum, of course what’s been dominating all the news outlets from junk journalism of the corporate press and Western state press to indie left outlets to Non profit left leaning media outlets is of course Donald Trump violating international law by threatening to take Denmark’s colony of Greenland, making all of Canada part of the US and threatening to take the Gulf of Mexico and the Panama Canal for his many bizarre reasons and blab la bla. talk to us about both Canada’s right-wing premier’s responses, TVO and the CBC’s response to Trump’s threats which are bizarre to say the least and compare that to Claudia’s response which was not only hilarious but anyone who is a Post-Colonial/Marxist when looking at International Affairs and anyone who is devoted to Latin American solidarity and that of Mexico would’ve gotten a good crash course into the real history between Mexico and the US and what they missed out by the corporate/western state press media when they didn’t cover her presentation and counter proposal to the US’s threats.
2. And one last thing before we talk about Claudia’s 100 days is Canada’s relations with Mexico. Now if anyone follows the history presented to us by Yves Engler, Richard sanders, Tyler Shipley and other historians and journalists in the past who’ve been suppressed by popular Canadian academia and journalism and history we know Canada like the US has an imperial foreign policy towards Mexico and the Americas, and globally, when leftists cover NAFTA the North American Free Trade Agreement much of the focus is how the US shipped countless and huge variety of jobs overseas to Mexico, multinationals exploited Mexican workers who had little to no worker’s rights and they were used as cheap labour and all while countless of industrialized places in the US were left with huge destitute levels of poverty, can you talk about how that happened in Canada to and how that changed in a positive way at least for Mexico when AMLO came to power and was allowed for as long as voters gave him a mandate to address the grievances of Mexican workers who worked for Canadian multinationals who engaged in similar practices the US did with respect NAFTA?
3. Now onto Claudia Sheinbaum. Tell us some of the major important reform and landmark left-wing policies she’s passed since even before coming into office, and yes what are some of the policies she’s passed in her 100 days the Mexican working class, the precarious middle class are celebrating,
4. Anyone policy passed particularly find important that’s been overlooked by even the best of the left in Mexico and Latin American when we walk of left leaning news outlets and independent left outlets?
5. How does she deal with and cope with an often hostile corporate press and those in the state press who are right-wingers and bootlickers for the PRI and PAN party who appoint them to their jobs, and isn’t Western media like Unovision the Spanish corporate media outlet in the US and the New York Times how have their coverage been of her because the latter was trying to stir shit up which is laying the foundation for the very uneasy relation the US under Trump is going to have with her correct?
6. And can you provide us any updates on how the judicial reforms have been on Mexico since AMLO was able to pass those despite major far right protests and huge media propaganda blitz trying to sabotage it?
7. And do you think under Claudia if all continues to go well and the Western imperialists and the far-right and their ghastly liberal middle class friends can’t find a way to sabotage her, will we see more Mexicans staying in Mexico, not risking their lives to go to the US or some to Canada, and If Trump outdoes Obama and Biden and himself! And forcibly dumps countless illegal immigrants or disrupts a lot of people’s families that you might find kids forcing themselves to move back to Mexico to be reunited with family, when they experience the wage increases that keep up with cost of living, the free healthcare, the low cost child/day care, will we see many Mexican workers mainly of the working class just flocking over to Mexico, hopefully many of them being part of the Mexican left-wing movements and with that a huge socio-economic renaissance but also a cultural one that’ll be reflected in film and TV where much the stories we get about Mexico, Colombia, and similar nations is one version of the corrupt Drug war after the other when Mexico and other countries infact the entire hemisphere is soo much more then one issue?
