Absolutely love this van. Get so tired of seeing cheap plastic totes, duct tape, and Bungie cords. This is so homey and beautiful. Looks so pleasant and pretty, and makes you want to take a trip, Just like the old oak tables for the bed platform, you couldn't buy a sheet of plywood for what she paid for them. Craigslist free stuff always has something like that. Doesn't have to cost a lot to look good.Love that she took the time to care.
I agree. I love to thrift anyway, so why not take advantage of the saving money and making things easy. She can change things around if she feels so inclined as well. I just love it! We do have to keep in mind though that the wood is very heavy and those plastic totes can make a world of difference in gas mileage. I'm building out my own van as we speak with the heavy work being done by my carpenter husband. I'll be doing most of the traveling and I've got enough baskets and cloth totes to make it functional and homey. He's doing a great job and I'll just be adding the finishing touches. Hopefullly , we won't butt heads.
Quick and cheap insulation: blankets, sheets, quilts and tapestries! It's how we kept those drafty stone castles warm in England for hundreds of years and you can find them cheap just about anywhere. Just make sure to leave an air gap behind it and the difference is shocking ☺️ And bonus: they're the easiest walls to clean ever because you can just throw them in the laundry 😆
I've thought the same thing about insulation; Just use plenty of cotton tapestries and rugs and blankets. It will absorb condensation but then easily give up the moisture during the day because it's 100% cotton. And just do a number of layers, and don't do the thing that some people do where they build the inside of the van just like you would a house; first they frame it all in and then and wood and then some sort of finish... By that time you have taken up many inches of precious living space with a ton of wood and you still are going to need a heater to stay warm in there. In the '70s they put shag carpet on the walls and ceilings of their vans. Since most carpet is synthetic I'm not sure how that would work with condensation; It probably would be too good of a substrate for growing mold.
@@ButterflyTracksI absolutely loved the magnets idea. And just like you said.... And it was something I hadn't thought of.... You can hang up all kinds of blankets and tapestries and fabrics with modern strong magnets. It would be so cozy. And so changeable.
Hello Jan, such a nice lady. I agree with her. After working most of your life and retirement. Why should we just sitting around be adventurous enjoy your life while you still can. God knows how much we women work take of kids and everyone and everything around us and Never really do anything for ourselves We deserve to live our full lives getting out and meeting like minded people that share our same beliefs. Some day soon I’ll be joining these lovely ladies. 😄 Thx Jan for wonderful video. Take care and one day I’ll see you, Coco and Suzie down the road 🚐💨💨
I love that she is setting it up and using it, even though it’s not “perfect”, to figure out what works and what doesn’t. Great job getting out there and on the road while the van is a work in progress.
I loved all the info you put out. I wanted the same thing under my bed. Either a low boy or a 1970s tv and stereo cabinet. Its a great base for a bed plus storage! I will keep haunting the thrifts. Thanks for sharing.
Nikki the low boy or stereo cabinet is a great idea. I saw a video that a man used an vintage wood desk with the legs cut off. Now I have new things to be on the hunt for.
Hi Elizabeth 👋🏻. I love your van setup. My mama n sisters and one of my brothers live in Hamilton Alabama (North West area). 😊 Ut would be nice to meet you some day. Maybe at a future meetup 👍🏻
Great job Elizabeth🥰 my new travel Buddy🚐 The antique pot lid lights , are my favorite! So ingenious. I just love them. And I’ve already been to harbor freight , to pick up my security lights. Your so creative .💕
Such a sweet build out! I love her attitude too. Tip: drill a number of holes in the flat wood sheet under a mattress to provide air flow to help prevent mold. Or you can buy a special designed mat from a boat store as that is what they use under mattresses in boats. Enjoy the journey.

Talking about a base for a bed. I saw those short file cabinets. I thought 4 of them. 2 facing in the van and 2 facing out the back. And you get about 12 drawers to put your stuff in
Hi Jan! Consider used metal file cabinets for your bed supports. You can also cook on them as a kitchen. Keep your stove and fuel in the metal drawers.
No plastic! Loved her dishpan setup and the shabby chic dresser for a kitchen counter. I answered Elizabeth's chatting. The bed frame was creative. Nothing ordinary about Elizabeth's choices. Very special. Ty.

I agree with Elizabeth about the desire to get out to have a little bit of adventure on her own and be out in nature and to prove to herself she can do it on her own. Like Elizabeth, I married young, at 18 and had a baby right away, so really never had a chance to have any adventures on my own as an adult. My husband, of now 50 years, and I started RVing in a 30 foot trailer in January 2019 and love it! I am living vicariously through women who travel and admire them for their courage and spontaneity and creativity. Keep up the great videos and enjoying freedom and adventure.

Nice idea to use socks to keep the spices from rattling. Keeping your glass over the spout is a great place to keep it at the ready. The “sink” is so pretty. I love the simple builds vs those 50-100k builds. Keep on keepin’ on! I love that you are getting more active and have a supportive spouse.

Thank you for sharing. I’ve camped forever. I’ve just bought my first van to go on my own. My anxiety is from not trusting the vehicle. I’m so afraid of being broken down. I trust myself but worry about the vehicle.
Hi Kathy. 👋 Think about this - you drive now, right? You could break down on the road near the town you live in. Either way, you'll need roadside service. 😊👍
I like your set up very much. I am a widow 75yo. I love to travel too. I travel by car. I load up and away I go. I don’t do much outdoor cooking. Most of my meals done a little single burner cooktop. Due to my age and health I try to stay near civilization I am cautious of going too remote. Last year I went from Calgary to Banff and all thru the mountains. One of my best trips to date.

Jan I must thank you & all the ladies for great ideas. I'm living in a home shared by 3 of us women & one woman's grown son. So learning about ways to save space and gadgets to use in my room is great ! We share a big kitchen so that's great too. I'm thinking about buying a Jackery or similar to use in my room to heat water for tea ,keep phone charged or maybe even power a small fridge to not add electric costs to the house. Still plan to find my van & travel some too . Blessings 🎉 💕 🤗
Absolutely love her little jackery😂 you can do so much with that tiny one when it gets cold just get an electric lap blanket the jackery will run that as well as small lights

Top tip, buy Damp Rid Tubs or the ones that hang for condensation and get your nephew to drill a lot of holes in the wood under your mattress to create more air flow and prevent moisture under your bed.
Elizabeth is doing things pretty much exactly as I would as far as van set-up. While I applaud all the folks doing full van build outs, I'd be more inclined to just use existing stuff I had. That way, if you ever got tired of the road, or had to stop for any reason, you just pull out the stuff (and maybe return some or most of it to the house), plus you've still got a nice, basic van that would appeal to many more people when you went to sell it than it would if you'd customized it too much. PLUS, you or your family could put it to another purpose. I also just like the challenge of finding new uses for old things.
Is putting the little puck light in the top of the serving dish a GREAT idea or what? I'm stealing that idea!
She's so fortunate her husband supports her camping.
Must be a wonderful man.
Only a vintage dealer...love, love, love it!

So is this furniture secured to the floor of the van. If not if you were in an accident this is going to fly and decapitate you

Maybe you could start by camping with friends in a campground close to home!
Love the wreath!
What a cozy and warm van. Thank you fir sharing. I liked your decor. It spoke of what was special to you. Excellent. Enjoy the journey.
Thank you, Travel Dreamer46. 😊
Thank you!
Nice! I love when people incorporate regular furniture in their builds, especially vintage furniture.
So comfortable and homey. 🦋
Yes
Love your van! You’re doing great!
Really nice!
Thank you!
I'm so glad you're reading the comments. They love you! 💙
Trecking poles are what they are called. Good luck ladies on your adventures.

This woman is so inspiring and just so cute
I love this so much. You just trust your gut. Exactly.
👍
Jan I must thank you & all the ladies for great ideas. I'm living in a home shared by 3 of us women & one woman's grown son. So learning about ways to save space and gadgets to use in my room is great ! We share a big kitchen so that's great too. I'm thinking about buying a Jackery or similar to use in my room to heat water for tea ,keep phone charged or maybe even power a small fridge to not add electric costs to the house. Still plan to find my van & travel some too . Blessings 🎉 💕 🤗
Thanks, Carol. 😊 Sounds like you have a pretty good arrangement.
Absolutely love her little jackery😂 you can do so much with that tiny one when it gets cold just get an electric lap blanket the jackery will run that as well as small lights
This was so wonderful and relatable!
💙🦋💙
What a sweet lady, she seems like such a sweet soul, I hope I get yo meet her one day at one of the meet up once I get my vehicle ready.

Top tip, buy Damp Rid Tubs or the ones that hang for condensation and get your nephew to drill a lot of holes in the wood under your mattress to create more air flow and prevent moisture under your bed.
🙂👍
You thought of everything it's awesome to know that you are nearby in Florida I'm around the Pensacola area hope to meet up one day
Elizabeth is doing things pretty much exactly as I would as far as van set-up.
I like your thinking. 🦋
Love it
Thanks, Darlene. 😊
Thank you!
Love your van, and especially the way you decorated it! That’s the way my house is. Lots of vintage! ❤️
Sounds nice! 😊
