- Happy #WorldGorillaDay from Mbeli, Kal and Gunther! Today is an opportunity to celebrate the two species of gorilla and take action to help protect these remarkable great apes. Western lowland gorillas-like the boys who call Denver Zoo home-are considered critically endangered by the IUCN and are threatened by illegal hunting, disease and habitat loss.
I've always loved the primates, especially the larger ones
Happy World Gorilla Day! 🦍
How lovely 🥰 I’m a primate person too. Is this a lowland or mountain gorilla? 🦍🦍🦍
We love primate people! Here at Denver Zoo, our male bachelor troop consists of three western lowland gorillas.
The Silverback is one of my favorite animals. So majestic and fascinating 🦍♥️
The Denver Zoo used to have a stunning Silverback named Jim (is that who was featured in this video?)
Jim is a magnificent silverback, but this isn't him. He now lives at the Jacksonville Zoo with Tinga, Whimsie and new females so that he can expand his family. This is one of our three new bachelors we welcomed in 2020.
This habitat is so much better than the one at Cheyenne Mt. Zoo, their poor gorillas and other primates live in sterile rooms and they have no enrichment other than throwing poop! At least that was how it was last time I was there. Very 😥 sad.
It’s been a while since I was there but when I was there, they had an outdoor area and could run around.
@@CuzOfTheDog that’s good to hear, it’s been a few years since I’ve been there so I will have to go back and see the change
May i have permission to reuse your video as educational purpose please? i see it's listed as fair to reuse, but i would like your permission also
Why was Mbeli transferred to a different zoo?
He moved at the recommendation of the Species Survival Plan!
Do they have females?
Here at Denver Zoo we only have the three male gorillas.
I wish he was free
Western lowland gorillas are critically endangered, and their numbers continue to decline because of habitat loss and poaching. While we wish all these wonderful species could live safely in their wild habitats, that's just not the case. Kal, Mbeli and Gunther are given a healthy diet, plenty of enrichment, and so much love from their keeper teams. They are also playing a critical role in getting people to care about gorillas, and inspiring those people to take action to save them.
Why you gotta keep my homeboy in that cage
