Seen them last year when 3 violinist played for the family, I didn't know the mom died! That's so sad but heart warm that the dad is raising the little one. I did my dissertation on primate behavior specifically the orangutan in Borneo at BOSF and I never heard of this before but it's so awesome he cares for her ever need

I agree I've studied them extensively. Perhaps because he is in capture. And can only stay close with them this has changed what his natural reaction would be.

You did you a doctoral dissertation on BOSF in Borneo and you've never seen anything like this? Well I guess if you did your 'dissertation' on the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation then you know there are 3 locations in which the orangutans are staged to learn about life in the wild, Samboja Lestari, Nyaru Menteng, and Mawas. In 2 of those locations the 'keepers' are 'surrogate mothers' who are there 24/7 so how would a father, which there are zero fathers in the first two stages, take on a baby when they all have baby sitters? Come on dude, be better not worse..

@@ronaldtartaglia4459 borneo seems to be doing better these days. there is protected forest and thanks to the forest school, orphaned orangutans are rescued, given years worth of education how to survive in the wild and are released. first to the pre-release island to see how they do on their own, then captured from there and taken into middle of a protected forest and set free there.
its not fast process but it seems to be sustainable. the palm oil industry shouldnt bother the apes there. poachers for illegal pet trade might but there is always risks anyway, they can die in the wild for a multitude of reasons other than humans.

@@KossolaxtheForesworn the crooked governments are still allowing The protected land to be demolished. The only thing that would stop them is full military intervention. They will eventually burn down those Forrest schools. It’s like holding up a flower in front of a tank. All those palm oil scumbags need to be euthanized.

They have inside enclosure which they choose to go into if they want, and an outside enclosure. Educate yourself on Borneo and endangered species.

@@KossolaxtheForesworn No such thing as free and protected in Borneo, apart from the deforestation there are poachers who sell the babies on the black market. The government will allow whatever to make money.

@Brandy Allen that's sanctuaries. Zoos are for entertainment only. Zoos kill more animals than they safe. This dumb argument has been debunked a million times before and I'm tired of hearing it.

Why did the mother die suddenly so young of a heart attack? Did the zookeeper give her a certain injection incorrectly called "safe and effective"?

Yeah he doesnt seem to mind it at the moment but there will be a day when he is being fed and he wont want that baby nowhere near whatever hes eating because they are known for not sharing food ever, especially him being a male, and he will end up smacking and biting the hell out of her if she gets in arms reach of him. There is a video out there of a big male doing that very thing, it was a female with her little one and they where trying to eat with him and he doesnt go for it. He dam near bites off the fingers of the baby. If it wasnt for the mom protecting it i think he would killed it. I dont have the link but Its called Tutut vs Kusasi.
