Honestly, this is actually a pretty spot on fantastic guide for new players. The perfect amount of information without going overboard, a few light jokes and sarcasm to keep it interesting, and pretty accurate descriptions of the classes and differences between Retail and Classic. Oh, and it’s also narrated by Moocluck, which just makes it infinitely better! 😅
This says absolutely nothing that they actually need to know to play the game. If you are new just understand that you will never be invited to a raid or pvp group unless you have real life friends playing. You won't have the achievements or gear score to ever get started.
Hey, around 08:49 you mentioned that you are old. Me too-- 70 to be exact. I know what you mean about a more relaxed pace in classic! My kids like to make fun of me for reading through all the quests, doing side quests for the more low-stakes interactions with the NPC locals, who are often a lot of fun--sort of whimsical and kooky. I often wonder how many other casuals are age 60 and above. WoW is great fun, and it has so many ways to play that there's something for everyone, even old farts like me. Thanks for posting!
I remember being 7-8 years old back then shopping at Walmart seeing physical versions of WOW on the shelves. Always wondered how the game played, never really looked into it tho. Almost 20 years later I'm here finally giving it a shot lmao! (I played Runescape instead in my youth). Thanks for making this video!
one Problem with the Scaling in Retail for newer players: New players are forced into Exiles Reach and from there HAVE to level in BFA content where they are often confused as to who is who. Chromie is not unlocked until you got your first lvl 60 char. (edit 5months after: this finally got patched - chromie is now unlocked from the start) So you are forced into BFA. If you however go to other zones they will only scale until their original level. so WoD only scales to 35, BC only to 30 etc
Also you're called champion or ambassador or speaker, and wonder if the whole faction has huffed gasoline because they put some rando who didn't exist half an hour ago in charge of their entire army
The fact about Chromi is real? I just started playing wow 3 days ago. A friend guided me the first day and the first thing that he asked me to do was visit chromi and go to WOTLK content to lvl up faster. (And no, I don't have a lvl 60 character, I just bought the epic dragonflight edition that gives me a lvl 60 token, but I don't have a lvl character yet).

Yep, hard agree there. I haven't played WoW since the early days of Cataclysm (I think I might have poked my nose in for parts of Warlords of Draenor too, but I have pretty much no memories of it), and coming back to it, it's really a confusing experience. I started questing, and then suddenly out of nowhere an NPC mentions that Teldrassil got burned, they're all really angry, revenge quest??? or something... And I'm just sitting there wondering wtf is going on, considering I just went to Teldrassil and it looked pretty much exactly how I remembered it, so what gives?
Addons are always nice for classic to make the experience feel less clunky. There is even a VoiceOver mod now that uses AI to do voiceovers of almost all questing dialogue making the leveling experience feel more immersive. It even takes in the race of the person speaking for the voice.
I am at a point when I'm too old and too adult for this... I tried classic and BC classic, I was raiding heavily, but after a while, having to progress until 2AM took it's toll... I almost deleted a nationwide store's database, because I was too tired. I put down the game after that and that was a very dark day. I grew up with WoW... at 2004 i was 16... the perfect age group with the perfect amount free time in high school. I was 31 when classic came out, the perfect age group with less free time and more money to be able to buy things.... Now i'm 35 and my reflexes and amount of energy is not the same.... Farewell dear friend... I wish there would be a "softcore" classic server to carebears and old people like me... with a 2-3 time xp multipliers and a 0.75 - 0.5 multiplier on enemy damage, so raids are faster and easier. You can shunn me, but I would be back in a heartbeat with a year long subscription and many of my friends who are in the same age bracket has the same issue

Now it is 6PM, making dinner eating it. 7PM Now I have time to play... about 2 hours, since I need to go to bed 9PM to wind down and get that 8 hour sleep. 6AM back at it. AND since i'm working form home, I'm lucky i don't need to count 1-2 hour commute. AND I haven't done any cleaning or laundry... and haven went to visit my mother etc etc etc.... If you say that 1-2 hour of WoW is enough to do anything, you lie. I have time on the weekend, by then I usually beat and I don't have the energy and the drive to play.

As a casual player who started wow just last year from my experience its a very difficult game to figure out, mainly for me it was trying to follow a story and just being thrown into the world and not knowing what quests were story progression and which are side quests since they all look the same and there are thousands of them (except for shadowlands, and dragonflight they are marked) having never played an mmo before i went in expecting something similar to skyrim or a similar single player rpg with other people running around, i was wrong lol. But if you can stick with it, mechanics slowly become easier to figure out and there is so much lore and places to discover its awesome. I would suggest not rushing through to end game and have fun leveling through the different expansions and learning how to play your character.

Im hella late to this. But for me i wanna be raider, only thing what sucks that i feel like its long journey. Toxic people rly bums me down. Im trying my hardest to learn to be tank, but i never receive any pointers etc. Its always, i suck, im this im that. So im rly wondering if i have it in me to see it through. I like this game alot and wanna rly get into it. Regardless i do have good memories, one time i was doing dungeons and i got full team of first timers, at that point i was the most experienced player, so i was nervous to take a lead. We did beat the dungeon after few deaths. It was legit moment for me that i felt proud of em. They were rdy to give up cuz they felt bad. So actually seeing them beating the their first dungeon made me sort of "proud leader"
Happens to my raids couple days ago, Im a warrior Arms class and I respect every class, ppl in raid wanted Decent tanks but again if newcomers tank decided to come, they expected u to know your roles whole rest of us do dmg and heals. Been defending new Tanks in some raids cause where else u get new gear rolls with high stats? Unless grind dungeons. For the Horde! (or For the Alliance)
No joke. The game isn't what it once was. Such a shame. They spent all this time and effort crafting an interesting experience, then even more time and effort reviving it for classic, and then they let you pay them to ruin it (in the form of boosts and char transfers). If they had a cash shop to buy all the bis pieces, people would use it, and then it would kill the game. That would just be a faster version of what they've already done IMO. The game is basically dead at this point, no reason to start now.

Decent video but it misses the link with the Warcraft 1,2 and 3 RTS games. A strong attraction for me was visiting all the areas where I fought RTS battles, and meeting all the heroes and villains that I played with or against in the RTS games. Azeroth had a lot of history before WoW even started.
It's hard to believe WoW ever gets new players. Game's been around for so long, most gamers have played it in some form or another. Kids these days definitely don't care about MMOs, a far cry when WoW was the biggest game in the industry. We are an aging community that ages out more players as the years go by.

Been 13 years and I eas doing end game LK then. I've been thinking about getting back into it. I was very confused with all the patches. Looks like classic would best. I do want to try hardcore. Is that only retail?
My main advice for players who are thinking of starting wow is to answer this question. Do you want to join a guild, are you willing to find a guild of like minded people? If the answer is no, i would not start wow.
WoW is full of automated and manual ways of playing with other players without requiring a formal guild. You don't need to be like minded to join an informal guild either, just a social chat room to talk whilst playing is fun.

Classic end game without a guild: - GDKPs, You either have to spend hours upon hours to farm gold or RMT - Very gate keeped content even when the game is easy - Dalaran que simulator Retail end game without a guild: - Retails end game is better for a "solo" player than classic but pugging still lots of the time is filled with toxic folks be it M+ or Solo shuffle. If that's what you like then go ahead. Most of that can be prevented by joining a guild with like minded people who have similar goals in WOW etc...
My biggest advice to new players would be try classic first before retail. I can only imagine how overwhelming retail could be and the adventure would probably lack due to probably ending up in LFG dungeons as soon as they're available. 😂
There are pros and cons to each version. It al depends on the player and what they want or like. Some prefer the slower and more challenging pace of Classic, some do not. I personally like retail. I have been playing since Vanilla and there are things that I do miss about it but in my view Classic isn't the same feeling to me. Plus I think Dragon Riding is pretty fun. I think Moocluck said it best that it's whatever playstyle you prefer and are comfortable with.
I played till battle of Azeroth which is till lvl 100 or 110, I really wanna play new content, leveling, dungeons and pvp, but I hear shadowlands is dead? Is this true ?

Im new as well I've only just downloaded the game last night and have no clue what's going on lmao... All my friends used to play back in high school but I never got into it now I wanna play but have no clue what to do at all.
You have to buy WoW (includes all old expansions) and the current expansion. In terms of being behind: WoW is meant to reach endgame fairly fast. You're choosing a timeline (expansion) to level your char after the tutorial until you reach the current expansion. If you want to explore all timelines before hopping into DF, you are free to visit an NPC in one of the major cities and turn off your experience gain when reaching level 60 until you decide to move on. If you want to hop into Endgame and play with others you can still do the level stop and exploring with a twink. Endgame is a big chunk of Raiding, m+, PvP, bit also RP, crafting, auctioneering if that's more of your style. When it comes to the details, guides will be your best friends as you'll see that they could fill bookshelves. Also communities that are dedicated to help new players when diving into raiding and m+ until you found your place.
in my experience with classic and retail wow i have come to a conclusion about the differences. (In Dragonflight at least.) Classic wow is nostalgia bait. I've mostly seen only people who played it years ago play it now. Which is fine, let them play the game they like. Retail wow gives much more in the way of leveling content than classic. the problem is, new players don't care about the old stuff and want to get into the new stuff. Gamers are more goal oriented and achievement driven than they are in classic. In the dragon isles leveling my gobling I felt like I'd be way more immursed as the new dragon class in dragon land and holy shit was I right. the quests are objectively better, you still pull the pubes off corpses for quest turn ins like classic except the drops rates don't make me want to commit unalive. getting my dragon was fun and freeing since the new class can only fly like every 4 minutes when you start out. the things I focused on playing each game was as follows. Playing classic I cared more about what was on my second screen because finding the right video to grind to is the real game. With retail, (only as the dracthyr so far) i felt motivated and invested in doing the thematically relevant content to what I was. It felt like a tailored experience for me as a dragonkin while with my alts it felt like just another xpac. TLDR: Play classic if you prefer to invest time for a reward and play retail if you prefer looking at WoW when you play WoW.
We didn't have second screens when we played back in the day and we don't need them now to play classic. It's ok for people to enjoy different types of game. But classic being so popular helped retail become a better game.

Classic wow's popularity comes from nostalgia from people who played it already. Classic wow is painfully slow and boring without nostalgia to keep you invested. Casting times are long, attack swings are slow, the gameplay is so dull it took 3 xpacs for people to have fun playing their class. Nobody in Classic played the class they played because it was fun, only the class that was good. Even today, it rewards quantity of time invested rather than offering a higher quality experience for the time you are already playing. I'm sure if you're 35+ years old, watching your character auto attack for 60+ levels is exhilarating, but I personally don't think cookie clicker the mmo is fun. But if you do, then go for it, the rest of us, even the people who played back in the day, all watch shit on a second screen because playing the game is boring as fuck. Not once did I feel like a death was a result of a mistake on my part. It's always just whether or not your swings or casts hit or not. That is if you can even get your cast off with the amount of pushback you get every fight. Idk how anyone is masochistic enough to waste so much of their time on such a waste of life. Only thing that got me to level 20 in Classic was playing with my friends. Turning the pain to memes was fun for a bit, then once we found that the pain WAS the game, we all quit. The only thing modern classic wow influenced on retail wow was revenue from people like you who enjoy classic. Honestly, I think all the layoffs from the scandals did way more to help retail wow become good than modern classic ever could. Evidence to my point is the fact that classic wow even exists rather than influencing retail they just gave you the old game. Someone else did all the work and all they had to do was host thr servers. TLDR: classic wow is an awful game for people who value the quality of their time. If you got absolutely nothing else to do but waste life on cookie clicker then you will love classic without a second screen.

No joke. The game isn't what it once was. Such a shame. They spent all this time and effort crafting an interesting experience, then even more time and effort reviving it for classic, and then they let you pay them to ruin it (in the form of boosts and char transfers).
If they had a cash shop to buy all the bis pieces, people would use it, and then it would kill the game. That would just be a faster version of what they've already done IMO. The game is basically dead at this point, no reason to start now.

Decent video but it misses the link with the Warcraft 1,2 and 3 RTS games. A strong attraction for me was visiting all the areas where I fought RTS battles, and meeting all the heroes and villains that I played with or against in the RTS games. Azeroth had a lot of history before WoW even started.

It's hard to believe WoW ever gets new players. Game's been around for so long, most gamers have played it in some form or another. Kids these days definitely don't care about MMOs, a far cry when WoW was the biggest game in the industry. We are an aging community that ages out more players as the years go by.

I think you could have better explained the importance of the three roles, particularly tanks as they are the debatably most complicated role.
i do miss playing sometimes, but i quit during legion cause it took to much time to get flying never went back to play, i admit sometimes i miss it but its not fun unless you can fly so i wont be back

Been 13 years and I eas doing end game LK then. I've been thinking about getting back into it. I was very confused with all the patches. Looks like classic would best. I do want to try hardcore. Is that only retail?

My main advice for players who are thinking of starting wow is to answer this question.
Do you want to join a guild, are you willing to find a guild of like minded people?
If the answer is no, i would not start wow.
WoW is full of automated and manual ways of playing with other players without requiring a formal guild. You don't need to be like minded to join an informal guild either, just a social chat room to talk whilst playing is fun.

Classic end game without a guild:
- GDKPs, You either have to spend hours upon hours to farm gold or RMT
- Very gate keeped content even when the game is easy
- Dalaran que simulator
Retail end game without a guild:
- Retails end game is better for a "solo" player than classic but pugging still lots of the time is filled with toxic folks be it M+ or Solo shuffle.
If that's what you like then go ahead. Most of that can be prevented by joining a guild with like minded people who have similar goals in WOW etc...

My biggest advice to new players would be try classic first before retail.
I can only imagine how overwhelming retail could be and the adventure would probably lack due to probably ending up in LFG dungeons as soon as they're available. 😂

There are pros and cons to each version. It al depends on the player and what they want or like. Some prefer the slower and more challenging pace of Classic, some do not. I personally like retail. I have been playing since Vanilla and there are things that I do miss about it but in my view Classic isn't the same feeling to me. Plus I think Dragon Riding is pretty fun. I think Moocluck said it best that it's whatever playstyle you prefer and are comfortable with.

I want to play this game, It killed my MMO back in the day SWG. but I have always wanted to play just never had anyone.. and now the dragonflight looks good and all but I'm so behind on expansions and what to do I would be so lost :(. like can I do all the old expansions ?, is everything included if I buy the dragonflight ?..

You have to buy WoW (includes all old expansions) and the current expansion.
In terms of being behind: WoW is meant to reach endgame fairly fast. You're choosing a timeline (expansion) to level your char after the tutorial until you reach the current expansion. If you want to explore all timelines before hopping into DF, you are free to visit an NPC in one of the major cities and turn off your experience gain when reaching level 60 until you decide to move on.
If you want to hop into Endgame and play with others you can still do the level stop and exploring with a twink.
Endgame is a big chunk of Raiding, m+, PvP, bit also RP, crafting, auctioneering if that's more of your style.
When it comes to the details, guides will be your best friends as you'll see that they could fill bookshelves. Also communities that are dedicated to help new players when diving into raiding and m+ until you found your place.

in my experience with classic and retail wow i have come to a conclusion about the differences. (In Dragonflight at least.) Classic wow is nostalgia bait. I've mostly seen only people who played it years ago play it now. Which is fine, let them play the game they like. Retail wow gives much more in the way of leveling content than classic. the problem is, new players don't care about the old stuff and want to get into the new stuff. Gamers are more goal oriented and achievement driven than they are in classic. In the dragon isles leveling my gobling I felt like I'd be way more immursed as the new dragon class in dragon land and holy shit was I right. the quests are objectively better, you still pull the pubes off corpses for quest turn ins like classic except the drops rates don't make me want to commit unalive. getting my dragon was fun and freeing since the new class can only fly like every 4 minutes when you start out. the things I focused on playing each game was as follows. Playing classic I cared more about what was on my second screen because finding the right video to grind to is the real game. With retail, (only as the dracthyr so far) i felt motivated and invested in doing the thematically relevant content to what I was. It felt like a tailored experience for me as a dragonkin while with my alts it felt like just another xpac.
TLDR: Play classic if you prefer to invest time for a reward and play retail if you prefer looking at WoW when you play WoW.
We didn't have second screens when we played back in the day and we don't need them now to play classic. It's ok for people to enjoy different types of game. But classic being so popular helped retail become a better game.

Classic wow's popularity comes from nostalgia from people who played it already. Classic wow is painfully slow and boring without nostalgia to keep you invested. Casting times are long, attack swings are slow, the gameplay is so dull it took 3 xpacs for people to have fun playing their class. Nobody in Classic played the class they played because it was fun, only the class that was good. Even today, it rewards quantity of time invested rather than offering a higher quality experience for the time you are already playing. I'm sure if you're 35+ years old, watching your character auto attack for 60+ levels is exhilarating, but I personally don't think cookie clicker the mmo is fun. But if you do, then go for it, the rest of us, even the people who played back in the day, all watch shit on a second screen because playing the game is boring as fuck. Not once did I feel like a death was a result of a mistake on my part. It's always just whether or not your swings or casts hit or not. That is if you can even get your cast off with the amount of pushback you get every fight. Idk how anyone is masochistic enough to waste so much of their time on such a waste of life. Only thing that got me to level 20 in Classic was playing with my friends. Turning the pain to memes was fun for a bit, then once we found that the pain WAS the game, we all quit. The only thing modern classic wow influenced on retail wow was revenue from people like you who enjoy classic. Honestly, I think all the layoffs from the scandals did way more to help retail wow become good than modern classic ever could. Evidence to my point is the fact that classic wow even exists rather than influencing retail they just gave you the old game. Someone else did all the work and all they had to do was host thr servers.
TLDR: classic wow is an awful game for people who value the quality of their time. If you got absolutely nothing else to do but waste life on cookie clicker then you will love classic without a second screen.
