      Yeah, I'm way more comfortable in rattler country than I would be in areas with a lot of non-rattler venomous snakes. I've seen probably 10 or 15 rattlesnakes close by in my travels in the USA, and all of them made their presence known well before I got to them. We have copperheads where I live, and I'm regularly in cottonmouth territory, but they're not too scary to me. But like India or Australia? That's pretty creepy. A lot of those snakes are very deadly, aggressive, unafraid of people, and stealthy. I certainly wouldn't camp as much as I do here, haha!

      what's especially cute (and useful) is that many other North American snake species have adopted tail shaking as a "hey, I'm here" warning. in the absence of a rattle, these snakes will hit their tails against the ground, leaf litter, or dry grass in order to make noise. for venomous snakes, this is just another threat display of "I can bite and it won't end well for you"; for non-venomous species like gopher snakes, this is a form of mimicry to trick predators into thinking that they're up against a more dangerous species.

      @@LizzardGirl713 Almost every non-venomous snake, be it ratsnake, (especially) racer, kingsnake, even the lowly garter snake (or ribbon snakes or water snakes)- every damn snake I’ve ever had experience catching has exhibited this behavior at least once. It’s a pretty valuable defense: not only might I mistake it for a rattler and leave, but it helps spread their musk around, which will also result in them being put down (whether they bite me or not). I’m in the Appalachian USA, by the way, and you’re right. Where are you?

      For those that don't know: Hognose snakes are harmless colubrids. Though they are venomous, it is not medically relevant for humans (unless you are allergic, much like a bee sting). On top of that Hognoses are not known for defensive bites and even if they were to bite, they are rear fanged which makes injecting the venom a lot less efficient (rear fangs are enlarged teeth that are used to chew the venom into prey). Western Hognoses are relatively common in the pet trade.
      For those that speak German: They are called Hakennasennattern (plural). Which I personally find is a hilarious name. Haken = hook, Nase = Nose, Natter = a group of snake species (includes corn snakes etc.)
      If you want to learn more I recommend visiting either snake discovery or Clint's reptiles here on UA-cam.

In Poland we have vipers and the non venomous snakes that we call ‘Zaskrońce’ (grass snakes) and they look quite alike so I was always told that the vipers have a zigzag on their back. I think I saw a viper when I was a child, not sure. I did however get bitten by a grass snake.

The thing is it's an incredibly mild venom that in humans only causes mild irritation similar to a bee sting (unless you are allergic to the venom). It's mainly used to incapacitate invertebrates like snails, slugs and leeches or small vertebrates like mice and fish.

I had the pleasure of seeing a Bothrops Moojeni in real life and it was one of the scariest experiences of my life (there was no glass). I didn't know anything about this genus until that. They're also very valuable in the medical field right now. I know there's an island where a lot of Bothrops live that has been completely abandoned because of how dangerous they are. Pretty cool.

    Hey, I love your content. Could you do instead of an animal, a topic for once?
    I'd like to see how teeth adapted to specific needs.
    Which animals can regrow teeth? (honorable mention to the buzzsawfish)
    Why do cats have far less teeth than dogs?
    Do bears have differen teeth based on their diet?

    • @GranRey-0
      @GranRey-0 6 років тому +3

      edi Just my theory, cats tend to lick their food off the bone with their rough tongue, and their teeth are used mainly to grab prey while hunting. Dogs use their teeth to tear chunks off their food and to grab prey. So I feel they need more slicing teeth to cut flesh so they can eat...but is still like Danielle to tell us the real reason.
