About Dune:
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

other composers: add human voices to make the score sound more personal and emotional
Hans the legend: adds human vocals to make the music sound even more scary and alien
He's not the first to do this at all, but the execution here is very unique.
Perfectly in line with the themes of the books. Humanity going so far it becomes almost unrecognizable for us.
Hans somehow does it for both of those reasons
Well. Japanese music composers did this for decades in Anime film scores.
@@akashicrecords9672 That's an excellent point. The very first thing that comes to mind is the soundtrack for the "Akira" anime adaptation.
So this is the type of music a highly disciplined and perfectly-in-control-of-their-biology sisterhood makes.
Perhaps this theme doesn't represent the Bene Gesserit in the beginning, but in the Fremen ritual which Paul and lady Jessica joined in and drank the water of life.
@@severallybrianth6557 I think it was just Jessica who drank the Water of Life. Paul will drink a few years after if I remember correctly.
@@vr5076 Yup
@@vr5076 Jessica drank the truth sayer drug, didn't she? Or was that basically the same as the water of life?
The whispering voices part sounds ideally suited to form the background soundscape for the eventual water-of-life scene...
It sounds like all the previous Reverend Mothers are trying to communicate through the spice trance.
Ahhhh, the Other Memory...
It really does!
The sound design team for Dune talked about how they kinda reached that same idea for The Voice with Dennis. So you’re actually right here.
Don't you feel very fortunate to live at the same time as this great artist?
EDIT: Can't get enough of it, 2nd best one after "The Shortening of the Way".
So much true!
When people say "everything have already been invented and discovered", the single ones like Hans Zimmer show things like this to the world
Very!
Bruh he wrote the score for Lion King and The Prince of Egypt. He's our childhood.
@@anonymouswolfemale3557 wait does someone actually say that? So many thing habe not been discoverd nor invented no one can imagine the very distant future
Did anyone notice Chapter 5 of this song is exactly the same as the Margo/Feyd scene? That's interesting they had it ready all this time even before Part One was released!
It is, he reused tracks from the Sketchbook
Hans have said he was so invested in Dune that after part 1 was done he kept working since he had a lot of ideas he still could use for part 2, hence The Sketchbook and Art and Soul of Dune almbums
@@azathoth528Apparently he’s already writing music for the third film too which is crazy.
Listening to this with earphones is such a pleasure
I'm using Sony's XM4 headphone; and it's some serious eargasm.
and thats only part of the intended experience...you need a proper subwoofer setup for the rest
I love the intro so much, the whispering and distant rumbling is so comforting, if only there is an extended version of it.
I love the Middle Eastern vibe I've been hearing in the soundtrack. Perfectly matches the tone of the book.
First part of the song is like the Bene Geserit taking control over the mind of the weak. Second part is the political war they wage. Third part is the lullaby to their daughters to serve the breeding program. As the vocal strenghtens, it marks the coming of the Kwisatz Haderach. The fourth part, as powerful it is, is the final step, the terrible, terrible purpose.
This, exactly this is what I envisioned whilst listening to this. In the end it is the coming of the Kwisatz Haderach!
Awesome
@@SealOfApproval82 millenia of breeding program, thousands of generations
@@cerrudmanuel Exactly, that is what I hear whilst listening, I think that is what it is all building up!
To add to this, the first voice you hear is not clear but then it becomes obviously feminine showing that those are the only voices they can hear.
hans is generational. how does one make lion king and then 2 decades later make this? he's so talented, diverse and absolutely groundbreaking.
It's a litany of the Bene Gesserit sisters. One of the elements of the training was a litany against fear, repeated like a mantra. It begins with the words "Don't be afraid. Fear kills the soul. Fear is a little death, and a great annihilation. I will face him"
I think Hans Zimmer wanted to convey what the Bene Gesserit order in Dune was about with this piece.
A bit innacurate, the words are " Do not fear, fear is the mindkiller, fear is the little death that brings about total annihilation, I will face my fear, I will permit it to pass over me and through me, and when it is done only I will remain"
where can we find the lyrics of this song ?
When this song plays during the sisters entrance in the movie this is both mesmerizing and scary ! U can feel the power of the sisters
So it plays during the movie? Was disapointed to see it wasn't featured in the ost album.
@@jordanmander686 yes it is, many times by the way
@@Dhaja That's great to hear, thanks!
That suggest the sketchbook is kind-of like raw material for the background soundscape (or extended versions of what I may just have downloaded by way of the ofdicial original soundtrack...)
The first time i listened to it, i said it was interesting but i was expecting more. An hour after listened to this i think its a masterpiece
First time listening I already thought it was a masterpiece, goosebumps and all.
Days later I still keep listening to it, please send help!!
It's always the ones that I don't like at first that end up being my favorite. Like multiple jacks or mountains
@@ryancoody7069 Zimmer's music is like wine. It gets better the more you listen to it.
Exactly same. First few listens I was very impressed, but thought it was too shaky-garde. Now I’ve listened to it a few times a day for the last few days, and I think it’s a tour-de-force. Absolutely genius.
Same here. Maybe they used the voice on us :D
A most fitting theme for a group thats as powerful, wierd, and terrifying as the bene gesserit are.
This is interesting! Definitely mysterious, frightening, and dangerous in equal measure
Just like the Bene Gesserit
It's mesmerizing... the way that Maelstrom of different voices come always to harmony. It makes me think of the Sisterhood: a maremagnum of minds, no matter how dissimilar, always resonating together when it comes to the Bene Gesserit's main goals. The power on the shadows, the Breeding Program, The Missionaria Protectiva, the achievement of the Kwisatz Haderach
i listened to the whole ”skecthbook”. this is clearly a labor of love. fantastic compositions. plus, as a dune fanatic this conjures up many scenes of the book in my mind, through sound. which is what an OST should do. fantastic. as for ”mind killer”... no possible rational comment :))
Mind Killer is doing some stuff that I didn’t know what possible
I expected range from Herr Zimmer but not the depth of experimentation!
Love the drums from the beginning, this will definitely be Hans' greatest masterpiece
yeah I find the drums especially in the piece from the 10 minute mark are so subtle, sparse, yet so uniquely arranged
It is bro, the drums are just magic
If LSD were a sound, I think this would be it.
Idk if that would sound exactly like this, but it def gives me the chilling eerie feeling the Bene Gesserit gave me while reading Dune and is definitely trippy for certain!
Wow yess..why is that I don’t know…it feels like something from another dimension is slipping into our own.
@@leifhansen6532 I’m happy to finally have a soundtrack to a space movie that sounds exotic. This, and other music from the film, like Paul’s Dream, sounds like it comes from Arrakis. I hope Hans wins the Oscar again. He went all out on this!
This gives me Dies Irae, dies illa feelings
13:30~? kinda
probably 10 Oscars to every instrument used in this score! ...seems there is a new Oscar-High-Riser next year!
This better be the type of music they use in Dune: The Sisterhood
15:03 that scale shift is incredible.
For those who think they're not too thrilled by this track, just listen to the last 4 minutes. Only then can you truly make up your mind.
Imagine a completely dark cinema, the film began, a few seconds of silence and THIS first minute from all the speakers around.
we exist too late to see the first light bulb and too early to see flying cars, but we are in the right time to hear the greatest movie ost
I cannot wait to see Alia be introduced in the next movie...this track reflects her essence perfectly
I think whatever theme they give to Alia will need to beat this. Because even the sisterhood fears Alia. Alia is something more than the sisterhood, something corrupted and that has perverted the bene gesserit power, an "abomination"
Strong Heilung vibes, love it!
Bene Gesserit witches power 😍 Frank Herbert you brilliant man and Hans Zimmer for bringing this to life.
3:30 this is the mind of a reverend mother all the time.
Imagine what the music will be when we'll be in Alia's head...
"This is your brain on genetic memory"
this definitely sounds like something an ancient cabal of psionic witches would come up with
I listened to this while reading the sandtrout bit in children of dune, and it was glorious.
I listen to this and I wonder what the soundtrack will be like when Alia comes out in the second part.
I think it should be even stranger than this. And more chaotic.
More "abominable" I would have said...
Daughter of Duke Leto and Lady Jessica, and Sister of Paul Atreides/Muad'dib.
@@PeloquinDavidLol...Well put!😁
14:12 - 16:25, this is something crazy in my ears, it's remind me a little bit the Ghost in the shell's music intro, why this part doesn't appear in this wonderful movie ?
Ikr???
I get goosebumps whenever I get to this part
is this the real cersei lannister?
Hopefully we hear this in part two.
Guys, pretty sure that what we are hearing is "the voice"... Sounds awesome
Next level genius
Man i can't even imagine if iam home alone and listening this. This is so deep.
Listening to the chorus with all the voices makes me think of taking the water of life and gaining access to all those generations of reverend mothers. I think movie 2, for fans, really hinges on being able to portray what is happening with all these reverend mother memories and also, how this will be shown with the transfer to Alia. How, as a director, do you show an infant being born into this shocking awakening?
This puts you in a trance & takes you to places.. very hypnotic & moving!
Hans.. Is PERFECTION
10:16 best part, some of it shows up in Part 2. “Seduction”
Greatest Opening 🙌🏼
This has a strong Eastern Orthodox feel to it
THIS IS REAL ART!
Goosebumps
4:17 I love this part in the movie! Thx Hans Zimmer!
Have u seen it?
@@filmvilla1340 Yes, last week here in Germany. It ist realy great!
This Music is strangely so powerful
This is so heavy!
I actually like the second half starting at the 8 minute mark better than the first. There are some parts with the shrill voices that seemed a little off to me around 6 minutes, but the latter half sounds like a ghastly hymnal.
It's definitely a "first draft" although not bad at all. It's much more refined on the official soundtrack and in the movie. Although I like listening to both, because this has things that the OST doesn't. They wouldn't have worked in the movie though. Best of both worlds I think.
@@BiggiifulThe sketchbook album is expansions of the themes from the score. Zimmer didn’t have the limitation of writing for the screen for this one, so he could go as crazy or weird as he wanted.
There are levels and then there are Zimmer levels and then there is a Zimmer-makes-a-mindblowing-Dune-soundtrack level
6:49 to the end is 👌🔥
My gosh.... That song it's so powerfull.
Hans Zimmer is the only composer at the moment that can give me a music high.
I don't know exactly how musicians of this genre and caliber of play earn money. I sincerely hope they earn what they deserve so this music can have a shelf life.
Hans Is 300 million well off lol he deserves more though In my honest opinion so 30 generations of his offspring will be well off so that hopefully one of them will be as great as him.
9:07-10:20 Leto and Jessica making Paul
amazing how that's the vibe you get, and in part 2 it's in seduction
You're a prophet. Cause that's the part he used in part 2's seduction.
Just wow
i listened to this when i was finishing dune messiah in 2021
So few words to desrcibe it . Zimmer keeps surpassing himself over the years .
Which spice did Hans use for these sounds?
100% high on Melange
He was also riding a worm while composing his music
His lips are probably stained.
Is this Zimmer's magnum opus?
This album and the original soundtrack for Dune could very well be some of Hans' finest work.
Imo it is. The way he was able to make us feel how alien the world of Dune is just through audio is something I've never felt before
I definitely need to hear this when the ship of the Bene Gesserit woman's arrives on khaladan Oh my gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
It sounds amazing. But someone in this comment section reminded me that this sketchbook soundtrack is going to be cut from the film.
@@nerdseyeview5017 cut? Why? How?
@@eyadsaleh94 Its cut from the film because Hans Zimmer thought most if his work didn't fit in the film. So he's going to release 3 Albums of his other work relating to Dune including the official soundtrack of Dune.
You won’t be disappointed
@@Dhaja You saw it, didn't you? Lucky! Trying to figure out what part this would play over? They use it in the Harkonnen commercial.
Prayers to everyone who thinks it goes quiet at 1:38
Sounds like The Plagues from the Prince of Egypt
Wouldn’t be surprised if they use this for the TV show’s opening credits.
Geinoh Yamashirogumi - Akira
Lady Jesica and reverend mother fremen scene ....I think
This song is a must at Bene Gesserit disco bars.
Akira and Nier Automata vibes, simply perfect.
something i find very interesting in this track is that, apparently, the song of the sisters can be broken down in parts, and some of them, with more recognizeable construction (more "motif potential"), seem to then used as bases in the different movies' soundtracks. At 3:32, you have the basis for the bene gesserit theme in Dune Pt.1; at 10:30, the basis is the one used in Pt.2 ; I'm guessing the theme starting to build up at 13:04, we will hear as a basis in some relevant way in Pt.3 (it seems to be a combination of the two previous ones, and expands on that fusion)... I may be wrong, but it's a guess like any other.
Witches, controllers, manipulators, conspirators, preservers, survivors... the Sisterhood
13:04 - the end🔥🔥🔥
9:58 is my favourite part. How can she sing like this ??
She probably stacked her vocals
Imagine Alia's debut 🤯🔥🔥🔥
Pity poor Alya...
Yeah, even in the second movie, we still have to imagine Alia's debut.
@@danielawesome36 hahahahahahahhaah, they used parts of this track with Margot Fenring's scene
@@brianm3160 Alia's still not born yet😭
@@danielawesome36 yeah, but I was pleased on how they handled her, it's difficult to find a child actor fitting Alias role and i think non book readers would find it amusing to have such a weird child
A goosebumps-wave kept rippling through my body originating from my chest…What da hail was Hans zimmer on while making this?!
Beautiful and exhilarating at the same time.
Hanz Zimmer is one of the greats, right under John Williams.

What are they singing? Are those real words?
I am pretty sure conlangs have been created for the movie - David J Peterson was working on them I believe
I hear a word very similar to the portuguese "Criança" (child) being repeated many times, which would make sense for the BG hahahah
