I don't know how you capture the essence of a drug induced spiritual awakening in the dessert with overtones of war and giant worms in a song, but this some how does.
The sketchbook album is brilliant. It shows Hans' progression from sketch to soundtrack. I cannot describe how much I love and am obsessed with this mesh of the Dune universe all in one track. It kinda goes like Ripples in the Sand, Dreams of Chani, extra stuff that NEEDS to be in part II, Burning Palms, more new stuff, night on Arrakis / Blood for Blood, then Burning Palms again with cool synthesized drum and bene gesserit chanting motifs
He made a soundtrack for the novel first and foremost, then made it into a soundtrack for the movie. At least thats how it feels. I will be rereading Dune and Dune Messiah having found this, I feel this will definitely enhance it.
3:50 as a synthesist, it’s not often I get to hear my instrument used to its full potential. This is definitely that in the same way that vangelis’s original blade runner score is.
I've always thought that Vangelis would've been an excellent choice as a composer for a Dune movie. This is probably the closest we'll get to that. Absolutely love that part with the synths
8:09 Every time I hear the percussion in the background, I imagine countless Fremen warriors synchronizing with it and chanting, "MUAD'DIB! MUAD'DIB! MUAD'DIB! MUAD'DIB!" Edit: Now that I've seen Part Two, I can definitely pick up on some similarities to the Harkonnen percussive motif there too. Which is fitting
I could see it as the final piece at the end of part 2, showing just what Paul has done, not bringing peace and tranquility (like the 1984 movie would say), but a violent holy war that leads to the sterilization of 90 planets and the extermination of 40 cultures
Isnt shortening of the way just about folding space? The scene where they fly up from Caladan, then see the godly enormity of Heighliner, then fly into and expect to see the miracle and mystery of folding, then finally experience the act defying logic and nature and found themselves and the onrmous fleet above the Arrakis.

@@Thumbdumpandthebumpchump well, he was kinda right actually. The part around 6:50 to 7:30ish is the sketchbook version of what would become "Herald of the Change" on the official OST. That's the first time we see the highliner in the film.
@@Thumbdumpandthebumpchump well, not a visual scene of the process in detail, but we do see the highliner that we know is folding space. And later on, we see the benne gesseret ship "pass through" the highliner, but we are kinda seeing space fold through the highliner. It's not like the old film, and it's not just a portal like the new film makes it look like on first glance. What we are seeing is a hard to explain interpretation of the highliner folding space. We are seeing it from an outside perspective on the one end, so we see the planet the benne gesseret left on the other side. To the audience this looks instant, but what we are seeing is the highliner having folded space. Depends on how technical you want to get. Herald of the Change does play when showing is the highliner which would have only just finished folding space, but a different musical piece plays (the benne gesseret score) when we see a little more of the space folding process. But, you are kinda right that we didn't have a scene dedicated to space folding in detail.

This soundtrack rightly evokes the feeling of Paul’s terrible purpose and the awakening of Kwisatz Haderach.
You sure hes a Kwisatz Haderach 😉 ?

That was a lie.
Hans Zimmer’s magnum opus. I don’t see how it can get better than this besides giving us more of it.

This is only the beginning
Agreed- I thought he peaked around Gladiator, but I was way off
This is it. This is the psychedelic essence of Dune, in musical form.

Any idea what the sound design for this patch was like? It sounds like some sort of flanged string sound with a bit of glide, delay and reverb.
It’s Tina Guo on cello doubling a Guthrie Govan guitar part. 😜

You were so close to correct. The same music played in Paul’s speech as they chanted, “LISAN AL GAIB”

Hans did his homework. Kwisatch Haderach means "the shortening of the way" in Hebrew
Do you bring the shortening of the way
Technically the Hebrew phrase is "Kefitzat Haderech", but that's a minor quibble. The inspiration is clear.
It was actually Frank Herbert who did his homework. Dune called Paul kwisatz haderach, Mahdi, lisan al gaib, and messiah.
