Terfel’s Handel Arias with Mackerras and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra was a particular favorite of mine in the late 90s, just when I was starting to get into classical music. Your video has made me want to listen to it again along with the one you’re recommending.
For me, this is a very special album. When it was released, I already knew Terfel from his Schubert recital, which I liked very much. At that time I was still very young myself and had only just started to get into art songs and this was actually the first album of English songs that I had heard. Terfel's interpretation of "Youth and Love" still gets under my skin today.
Meraviglioso il gallese! Avevo la registrazione di The Vagabond ma qualcuno me l'ha rubata! Credo fosse mio cugino di Napoli. I napoletani rubano tutto! Charles sei molto carino. Cordiali saluti da Firenze.
Great choice, and a fine album. I've got most of Terfel's recordings of song/Lieder, going back to before he hit the big-time, and "The Vagabond" is probably his best.
Great video
Cool picks. Thank you and have a wonderful one

❤ I’ve followed Terfel since that spectacular 1989 Cardiff Singer of the World competition vs. Hvorostovsky. What a pair of magnificent singers!

I love that disc and its followup "Silent Noon". They are "comfort" discs for me.
I’ve seen this album before but never heard it. Thanks for the recommendation!
