We've talked about it, I'm don't personally like collaborations all that much, but who knows we might do something eventually. No plans right now though.@@UnRepentantBastard
Well my amateur ears are not so trained or expert to catch the flaws your expertise see... hats off .. I am no one in the music world.. thank you for the awesome track❤❤❤
I appreciated this longer form look at you messing around with the Push 3, and your explanation about it. Pushing through your frustrations with it produced a lovely, interesting ambient set, ty!
excellent your taste. if i regard, when i joined in with your music by "love on a real train" 6 years ago. wow, what a wonderful story. thx man. ahoy volker
I always feel i am 'alone' walking through these soft focused perspectives in seemingly planned spaces having to solve thoughts and given paths with a faint result to the reality only imagined from the mind, same dreams i can recall when listening ambient sounds.
This is very cool music! I read the description as well. Maybe you could release a behind the scenes video illustrating the challenges you had making this music and what some of the workarounds were.
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm not keen on doing a follow up video on this, just because I already spent a lot of time researching/reading forums and trying to figure out a way to overcome the transition issues. Besides, I really suck at doing informative videos and they're outside the scope of this channel. I might however pin my workaround in detail under this video soon.
Bless you State. You are a great reminder for what truly music is capable for.!!! Wishing you excelent health, prosperity/abundance and all the things you desire and deserve.!!!
Another great set thanks SA! Does the PUSH allow you to change the voice assignments to a column per row? (Perhaps where the colour changes?). You seem to be working with more than 8 clips over the course of the piece
I was working with sample clips here. Every single clip (coloured square) is a different sample (sometimes duplicated if used in more than one scene). I can't even remember the number of clips, there's a lot...maybe more than 40? I have no idea. I just created as many as I needed for multiple songs and for all of the transitions between each song. All in all, there were 8-10 tracks, not including FX tracks, many clips, and probably at least 15 scenes I think. This was a pretty large and complex project, all done with samples. (the original project wasn't samples, but something like this just wouldn't work on the Push 3 without rendering everything to samples for the actual performing).
Thanks for the video. Can you tell me what desk you have? I am looking for a dress that will hold about as much as you have on that one. Especially like the keyboard tray.
It's a StudioDesk Commander v1 with the extra sliding keyboard desk underneath. The v1 was discontinued long ago, but I'm sure they have good alternatives. Really great company imo, their desks are really solid.
It's a beautiful piece. I've read a few comments while listening. If I may make a suggestion: I get the impression that few people know that you prepare certain audio tracks and do some experiments on twitch, when many would like to know about your creative process. Perhaps a link at the end of the video could help spread the word.
Thanks, Fabrice. It's a good idea, but I don't think i'll bother, it doesn't seem like very many are interested in Twitch. After all this time on that platform, it's still rare for me to get over 20 viewers during livestreams.
Cool seeing you make the most out of the Push 3. How much of your sounds here were made with Ableton's standalone synths, fx, etc. vs importing/recording in samples? I love the idea of a centralized workflow that the Push 3 could provide, but my concern is there's so few sound sources on the Push 3 alone.
Thanks! I don't think I used a single Ableton synth! I used all VSTs in the DAW and froze all the tracks for performing on the Push 3. I hope in the future later versions of the Push will allow for 3rd party VSTs. I'm sure the Ableton synths are fine, but after going through a bunch of presets, there were very few I found useable to me, so I would need to spend hours programming new sounds, it was easier just to use synths I'm familiar with.
I've been using Ableton on and off as a hobby for about a year now. Is there a better, more intuitive DAW that you'd recommend? Especially something compatible with VCV rack since I've been playing around with that recently as well. (Great stuff btw, fantastic as always)
Yeah that's right! Love my LCD-X. They're my first high end headphones to be honest, before this I was using (still am sometimes) Beyerdynamic 770 Pro and Sennheiser HD-25s, but the LCD-X were a big step up and I'm really glad I got them. The only downside is they're bulky, a bit heavy (you get used to it) and I think the way they're connected to the frame is kind of a poor design, although they haven't broken or anything, but the little screw that holds them together comes loose sometimes. I'm aware of the Arya Stealth's, I would have liked to try those too, I think they're probably at least more comfortable.
thank you good live, but I just find that there are missing harmonies on the sound waves... for example two pieces that I love from the album "O fire of ork" 1_in heaven and 2_sky lounge music is god ✌🏻
I have to ask, just out of curiosity: how did you start making generative ambient music? Your videos are absolute gems and you've inspired me to dabble into this fascinating and dynamic world!
Thanks! I haven't been doing any generative ambient stuff for quite a while, but I started it when I got into eurorack/modular, since there's a lot of options for generative music with that system.
It was all performed on the Push 3, but the initial music tracks were created in Ableton first with various VSTs and FX, frozen/flattened and sent to Push 3.
It's a little complicated, but it was all done in a single track using Sampler with multiple samples/zones triggered by individual midi notes/clips. In Sampler I made sure all the samples were looping nicely with crossfading (re-trigger disabled) and the MIDI clips set to legato, so changing from one Scene to the next even with a very different tempo, had no effect on the transition sample/loop that was playing as long as it was the same sample loop. For different samples, I would just fade the last one out and fade the next one back in when needed for a new transition. If I were just using the Push 3 as a controller though, I would prefer to have some VST synth playing some ambient thing via MIDI clip, or play a live transition, and as long as they're not going through some synced delay that might upset the smooth transition between varying tempos
Patrick is a great set, you are as impressive as always, but could you give the names of the tracks next time, can the set be broken down into tracks?I really liked the track from 12-17 minutes, this is exactly what I am ready to listen to forever, but I do not know the name, if I knew, I could imagine how you felt when writing the track, the name says a lot..
Thank you! I didn't name these tracks, you can think of them as parts of a whole instead. This set was designed that way, i.e. as a complete contiguous set and released as a single piece of music. It's a bit unusual I know, but I did this purposely as a test for the Push 3 system and did not want individual tracks.
About that part you mentioned...I think it's fairly similar to other tracks I've made. My thoughts at the time were really focused on just making each part a little varied each time, but keeping a similar vibe/feel.
Another jewel in my "Sleep" music collection for relax and meditation!
More and more your channel is becoming my "go to" for music. I really appreciate what you are doing!
Neptun found 27:50 particularly interesting. Great liveset!
Thanks, Martin!
Any chance of a collaboration between you two?

Did you know that you are totally my #1 favorite you tube artist out there? U r actually my #1 favorite ambient music artist. Thank you State 🌌!
Thank you, Michelle!
Even with the mentioned problems you had, great music, pure bliss for my ears, thank you 😊
loving the layers of plucks that start to come in at 13:00!

The more LEDs your audio workstation has, the better music producer you are.
This is getting added to the rotation for in the office.

Wow ok. Thanks for the info. I may stick to doing things in Bitwig!
Me too. This was just a test with the Push 3 Standalone, I'll probably do some more with it, but Bitwig is always my main daw.@@chriscartwright6331
Perfect
Years ago I made an 'audio story' starting with water drops in a cave, then moving out of the cave into a rainforest.

is there another ‘groovebox’ like for example a Deluge, that would work better for this kind of beautiful ambience?

Wow, this was all Push 3 Standalone?
No sending MIDI to external synths or audio to external FX?
All the sound and FX?
