Effective Rear Naked Choke Finish (Hide The Kill Grip)

- Here are at least 3 effective tips to help you finish your Rear Naked Choke once you've achieved Back Mount in BJJ. I did this move in the No Gi, but it works fine in Gi as well.
The biggest problem for me when it comes to finishing the Rear Naked Choke in BJJ is the fact that once you've got the Back Mount. People become ultra defensive and will immediately grab the arm that you're going to use to choke them.
Over the years I've struggle with this. Then there was one day when I was rolling with a big strong guy who had a traps up to his ears and didn't have very much neck to choke.
In addition, he was really strong and would lock onto my arm and I found it really hard to get the grip to choke.
So on a spur of the moment decision during one of our rolls during a BJJ training session. I just pulled the choking arm out so he couldn't grab it.
Then I lifted his chin.
And bam! I was able to finish the Rear Naked Choke.
I call this Flying Under the Radar with your grips. What I mean is, placing your body in such a way that you sort of mask your eventual intention.
Instead of getting a strong grip early and selling it too quick where your partner or opponent becomes aware of it. I try to hide the grip so that my opponent doesn't become aware of it until the submission or BJJ technique is already underway.
I've also included 3 Rear Naked Choke variation that I've used in BJJ competitions and training over the years.
I hope all the details in this video help you hit the Rear Naked Choke more effectively in your Brazilian Jiujitsu training or future competitions.
They're simple tips so they should be easy to implement.
Thanks for watching!

If you’d ever like to train with the team and I. Check out my gym Derby City MMA in Louisville,KY.
Hahahaha the faces Chad makes are priceless.
hahaha agreed but he isn't doing it for comedic value, another person's arm wrapped around your neck is not a good place to be and it makes you gag even at fairly light pressure levels.
Please always use this guy to show your moves on. It adds a lot of value to the video. :)
poor Chad looks like he took a beating on that one!
Giraffe Juice bahahahaha
3:29 "wooh"
I love the way you teach Chewy. clear details and I can hear the passion in your voice !
by the way. do you ever transition from half back to the truck ? it looks like it's right there. idk. haven't tried it
He looks like hes legit about to cry 😂
keep doing these for sure man. you explain it very well and your voice is very clear. keep up the hard work! I try to train 2-3 days a week
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. You can never go wrong learning new details to the basics
Thanks for all of the time you put into these videos. I have learned so much!
I've always used my hand to kinda dig under for the choke so it's nice to see that you suggested that.
Those facial expressions are fucking priceless :D
my man chad was fighting over his life
Really well explained video , love this , so many useful tips to go away and work on , I’m definitely guilty of rushing that choke arm and I give the game away too early , I’m going to try this sneaky version and bait them in future , great video 👌🏼
I just rolled with someone much better than me and i managed to take his back. I couldn't secure the choke and he turned into me and finished me. Here i am to make sure that doesn't ever happen again lol
poor chad...
I love all the sleeper hold tips. BTW what you call half back catch calls crab ride. Great pointers. Thanks
thank you for this video. I was having problems in this position.
Just another tip, if you lock up the choking arm and their head isn't straight, you can use your free hand to push their chin in line with your choking arms elbow, aligning the arteris. You won't really have to do that though.
Good video! I definitely learnt a lot from this!
just add you on my favorite thanks my fellow Jiu Jitsu brodda
Hey man, just started bjj at Wulfrun, Jason Saggo's gym. Your videos have been a huge help!

Ooooh, that 3rd choke looks dope. I'm going to try that one out. Thank you!
Great video!
Thank you for the tip on hiding the choke hand (pulling it back/coming up on the elbow).
[shout out from Cobra Kai in Las Vegas]
Thanks for the comment brother!

Thanks, mate. Helped my son prepare for a tournament.
Wish you were in SoCal!
Chewy's squeeze is no joke
Guy in back: “this is how you saw your arm in: 💪🏻🪚💪🏻🪚💪🏻🪚
Guy in front: “ooOoO😮eeeEe😖ErrrRrr😵💫zzZzZz😴”
Paddy Pimblett just got a first round submission in UFC last weekend using this technique
thanks!
That kid did not look like he was having fun.
Thanks for sharing. Always have trouble finishing, especially in training because I don't want to use rough tactics on training partners.
embomb701 I'm like that too..
chewy love the videos thanks
chad makes face when he gets choked I make when no cookies left
Me too cookie monster.
with friends I just pull back the nose or cup mouth /nose to open up neck
Chewy with the goods
Nice, I like the pace that you speak . I tried to watch the Gracie's channel but he talks too fast for my liking.
When holding rear mount. Where should you have your stronger arm? Under or over shoulder?
Thanx, I've never seen the "half-back" used before but it makes perfect sense once you described its purpose.
Would you prefer the half-back to hold your training partner as opposed to a "figure four" body lock using your legs when you have the back and in both cases, after you've scored your points in a points competition. Is it just a matter of personal choice or does one provide more stability and/or options once you've taken their back?
I don't use the figure 4. My legs are too short in most cases. Plus I don't like the lack of mobility associated with it.
Chad uses it though and loves it.
There is a purple belt at the gym that uses body lock... its miserable, when he gets it and squeezes, I cant breathe, lol.
I love it because it really restrains your opponents breathing and at the same time allows me to concentrate more on my arms/grips since I don't have to retain my hooks.
this was really helpfull cheers!
Good info thx! , just wanted to say this for laughs but if the devil or "Beast" was real , and "Big foot" was real and they rolled tournament style, or fought , I wonder who would win? I can't help but think about a yeti when I hear or see chew jitsu such similar features ya know.
YES!!!!!
Possibly a dumb question, but is rnc suppoused to hurt your windpipe like REALLY and afterwards make drinking and eating painful due to pain in your throath?
Beign a beginer (6 weeks in, twice a week) and 43 year old I suppouse younger and better want to try some submissions with me that they couldn't pull off as easily with more experienced guys (and with me knowing one takedown from standing position that really isn't hard :D).
I'm fine with that, can't really get better fast and getting demolished by nasty submissions is a experience, but this choke I got received kinda left me wondering wether it was a failed rnc or something else, the guy did say it was suppoused to be rnc, but my hurting windpipe kinda disagrees a bit with that...
Volunteer was going through it 😂
What are the mechanics for the 1-handed finish? What does "extend" mean (which body parts are extending, which are squeezing)?
You bring up your chest and straighten him out.
Hey I got a question, I usually struggle with actually getting my hand/arm under their neck when they tuck their chin in too hard, how do I force the hand in in the best way possible? the one in the video I tried but their chin was too strong
How effective is that 2nd gable grip variation? Would it put someone to sleep as quick as version1?
how do u train your pulling strength for bjj?
dudes got a real marvin vetorri look lol
0:34 lol
bro looks like Ben 10000
Chad is not having a good time hahaha
Cuddling for criminals
Chad not having a good time
He sounds like a white rener Gracie.
Love how the bottom guy forgets that he has arms and just allows you to use both your arms. 🤡 shit
Lol 😂
get a real job dude
Bull shit. No one forgets. This is bad technique and mis information
