You know how you can dial *49 or something on your phone at work and it will automatically start forwarding calls to everyone else when you leave? Or maybe your boss dials a number when he leaves for the day so that his calls go to your extension instead? Here is how that is done. You can set up FreePBX so that, when you dial a "feature code" into your phone, it changes call routing within FreePBX!

An excellent tutorial that got me started with creating an after-hours IVR that had long been needed . . .
Instead of manually toggling to an after-hours IVR, and having to remember to do that, you can set up a "Time Condition" that will automatically toggle it for you if the business has regular business hours - e.g. 8-5 M-F. For holidays there would be a different setup that would parallel that which could be toggled for holidays. I just got done setting the system for the 8-5/M-F After Hours greeting and menu options. Had to set up a number of things in the process as there are two DIDs, one for one city and and another for a different city in different area codes. The After Hours combines much of it as there is a third "mobile" extension that rings whenever either of the other two ring. May drop using the mobile extension as the old mobile cordless only had one extension, but the new one allows up to ten. It was a learning curve as there are some idiosyncrasies in the IVR setup. I advise extensive testing of all options and expected behavior before going "live" with an IVR.
While some might record their own menu greetings and options, I used the free text-to-speech TTSApp with the Microsoft Anna voice to create the WAV recordings and uploaded them to see how that would work. Tweaked with the speed and skip settings some to improve it. It's an option for those that don't have the most melodious voice and it's not the droning monotone of old even though you can still tell it's TTS generated. The FreePBX / Asterisk built-in TTS is abysmal! The extension owner doing their own greetings and name for unavailable, busy, absent, etc. for their extension and VM boxes is still the very best policy unless the person is a mute.

I also despise Allison's voice. Search Google for the Pat Fleet Asterisk sound files. Her voice is absolutely delightful.

Hi Louis this a great video. Thanks for making it. I was wondering how do you connect your phones and the FreePBX system together. Are you using POE switch so they can talk to each other? Please let me know once you get a chance. Thanks
