The women are actually known as "China Girls." They were test pictures that were used to adjust color tints when making a 35mm film print of a movie. The count down was a clear film placed to the beginning of a reel called a "leader." It was used to thread the film through the projectors and adjust things like framing before the actual film began. (10 years movie theater projectionist experience)
For anyone wondering. The women in the flashing photos are actresses used for color correction. Except for some who are characters in the movie. Pretty sure this is meant to imply they’re previous victims, while staying in theme with the movie.
@@eltiogamyi2586 Nah. Scorsese is good, but he only knows Rolling Stones and other similar tracks of his era. A good amount of his movies are hit and miss when it comes to the soundtrack. Unlike Tarantino where every single movie he has made has a banging soundtrack. He has a greater variety of taste all around as well. Dont get me wrong, Scorsese is definitely close though.
Its interesting how this film came out in the Grindhouse Double feature with Planet Terror. Planet Terror was actually shown first then Death Proof immediately after. Death Proof and Planet Terror, although different stories, actually co-exit in the same world with Death Proof's events happen before AND after the events in Planet Terror. You'll notice this when a scene in Planet Terror has a radio announcement acknowledging the death of Jungle Julia. No one who saw these movies for the first time would have any idea who she was until Death Proof showed her death later.
@@repopig1433 Yes! I remember being extremely underwhelmed at the end of Death Proof because of the craziness that was Planet Terror and the trailers. I didn’t really appreciate Death Proof until they released it by itself a month before Planet Terror.

@@alexzandersonjrg862 possibly two. There is a picture of Arlene (this picture is weird and has a creepy vibe btw.) And also a possible picture of Pam at the end.
yes!!! i totally thought that, they have the photo of arlene, the back of pam’s head, a photo negative pic of the bar, and then at the very end it flashes a fast clip of the girls in the corner at their table at the bar
actually the women (still images) in the credits are previous actresses from 70's rape-revenge films. One actress (00:50) is from the original "i spit on your grave" and i think another (00:28) is from lady snow blood. This movie is basically a tribute to that genre.
@Leviskardsen well actually after they play the english one, it turns French, the thing is that I lost the movie ripper that I used before and have not fully uploaded.
When I saw this in theaters I loved planet terror and thought death proof was lame. In retro-spect... I was way wrong. Still like planet terror but death proof was way better. Tarantino just has a way. Also I saw it late night and it was a real double feature. I think they shoulda reversed the order they showed it in. Many people were tired and bored by the time death proof came around.
@rihomisiruke well i think it's how they determine how the tone of the film is going to be and i read in one of those tarantino blogs that the pictures in death proof's final credits where color tests for the film
So this song is about how an older man going after young women will be his undoing, I wonder if Quentin listen to the song first and came up with the movie second.
0:15 now that Rosario is playing Ahsoka in the new Star Wars show, let's hope that's how she takes care of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Probably won't happen, but it'd be fun to speculate, right?
That was the intent. One of the victims from the movie is even one of the stills. Matched with the music itself it’s like they all finally got their payback on Stuntman Mike
I didn't actually watch the movie but I'm just assuming here that the picture of those girls at the end there the ones that got killed by that guy right
Soda I don’t think he was saying he didn’t understand the film. Death Proof is a fucking weird film. It leaves you with a sense of “WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?”... That’s kind of the point of the film tbh.
@@Lifeoftheparty8290 agreed. Just watched it again and it left me with a strange feeling that only Tarantino is capable of giving you. Seems like I am even more social, oddly enough, after such an event as this.

That's actually pretty cool to know. Thanks for that.
valid piece of information

I don't care what you tell me. to me they're stuntman mike's victims. matches perfectly with the song

Nobody in the cinema worlds knows how to put a real gorgeous soundtrack in a movie as Tarantino!
Guy Ritchie, maybe...
paul thomas anderson

I kinda wish they showed Death Proof first because it was over shadowed by Planet Terror if you asked me.
Ronny Franklin all Tarantino movies are connected
Nah theyre on a same Universe called Tarantino's Universe

Marley Shelton shows up as Dakota Block in both movies
Tarantino is a fucking genius. That's it.
The ending is so damn funny. They just bash his skull in and then the freeze frame. Gets me evrey time. So satisfying
Wondering what happened to the cheerleader.
Stormy Molnjavichen she was left behind for the car

she went Ramona Flowers.

The way the credits were done totally creeped me out

Just finished watching this on SHOWTIME... great movie although it didn't do well at the box Office. That ending sound track had me rocking over here.

This show was way ahead of it's time.

@108alpha108
They were called China Girls, they were found on various head and tail leaders of film. Most of the identities of these women is unknown.
