April March - Chick Habit (Bass Cover)

My suggestion for an SBL Cover of the Month that didn't end up happening, so here it is anyway! Famously appearing in the end credits of Death Proof by Quentin Tarantino.
Phil Maynes (who played the bass on the record) has a great tutorial which I tried to stick to when I was figuring it out, but there’s a little bit of variation in places I had to rely on my ears for.

Notes:
I think maybe the bass on the record is slightly sharp or I was slightly flat, so I raised the recording +10 cents. The timing also feels quite loose so I was rushing I think a few times, or I’m just not as accurate as I’d like! Couple of dead notes too, but this was the best take I had overall - even though it’s a repetitive bassline it’s quite easy to get lost and launch into the wrong section (as you'll see at the end).
Obviously I’m using a pick. For tone, I put both pickups basically on full, tone all the way up to get the bright picked sound. I used EQ to reduce some of the lower frequencies and boost the higher ones that get more of that palm-muted ‘click’ of the pick. I also added a small amount of reverb to bring that out.
Exporting the audio about -10dB on the record relative to my bass track again, seems to work...
