It would be great if future updates to Apple Notes included backlinks or bidirectional notes and compatibility with Markdown. It would make this note management system perfect.
I came across your system this past summer and when to the task of setting it up. These videos help me a lot, though, because I missed some things in terms of technique and/or setup. I already have an extensive set of notes now organized under this system.
Been using this method for a bit and loving it so far, question on setup for February ... I noticed there isn't a 29 February note, is the thought you would just use 28 Feb for leap years? Or are people creating a 29 February note and then what would be the best practice to manage the back / next links
If the shortcut didn’t create the bite for 29 February, just do it manually. When using the “Open Today’s Note” shortcut you’ll basically just skip the day when it’s not a leap year.
This looks brilliant. There has been a lot of excitement about Apple notes recently but there is a huge flaw in the collapse heading capability which makes it very hard to add headings between other headings or to move headings up and down when on the iPhone. So I have been looking for a process yes that doesn't depend on collapsed headings. Hopefully that is your system.
Hi! I’m very interested by this system and am attempting to implement it. I’m a little confused about the ✱ Home note and the different categories. What am I supposed to place under the “Areas” heading? Am I supposed to create a new note for each area? That seems like a lot of work and defeats the purpose of tags? Any clarification would be appreciated!
Hi! You can make Forever ✱ Notes completely yours. When it comes to the ✱ Home note, think of the notes you need to access most often and link to them. Which categories you use, is totally up to you.
Hey man love this concept , i was using your shortcut to create the journal portion , it seems a lil cumbersome to have to keep hitting done almost 400 + times in order to complete it , is there a way you can redo the shortcut to not have to confirm the completion of each note to feel more like a shortcut and less like a chore ?? Thanks so much your content is fire 🔥
This aligns with the Second Brain concept in Notion, but much easier to implement using Apple Notes! Looking forward to the rest of the deep dive videos. Thanks!
This is great but what about all those notes that are like post it notes where you’re jotting down a random piece of info you don’t want to forget. For example- all window measurements for your home when ordering blinds.
Use the daily note for this type of info or create notes with the tag #fleeting and a ✱ Fleeting notes collection. Delete notes you don’t need anymore.
Just became familiar with text replacement in settings - heavy asterisk. Where does the symbol come from when you type the two greater than symbols under Projects - “>>”?
I’m doing Forever Journal (by New Perspective) for almost a year so I already have notes for each days of the year. Could you please explain how I can set up the journal easily with the existing notes? 🙏🏻
I would suggest folklore the written documentation on my website: myforevernotes.com/docs/journal if you already have daily journal notes, you just need to add the navigational links.
I’m doing digital bullet journal and using the PARA system in my Apple Notes as well. I’m wondering how my Home should be set up. Is it good idea to make a Journal, Projects, Areas and Resources instead of Hub, People, etc.? 🙏🏻
That's exactly the headings I would use if I was a PARA user. You may add an "Archive" heading as well, but as explained in the first video in this series, there is not really any need for an archive with this system. Just remove the links to the notes and consider it archived.
HOW do you make the ✱ icon for your Home Screen? I’ve watched all your videos, shorts, and web pages but I see that you tap on an ✱ icon to access your notes.
Only system notes are tagged with #ForeverNotes, not your regular notes. It's just a way to implement an Inbox for example with notes that have no tags yet.
I had been a heavy user of notes app but your method changed how I manage all my notes! I love it!
Sounds great! Thank you!
This is a game changer. I am a big fan of all of your framework. Looking forward to put it in action!
Sounds great, David!
Looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos. I would love a more detailed video on how you setup the Journal! Thank you
Coming soon!
I like the idea of a HOME note for easy access.
Why my shortcut icon (asterisk) is showing apple notes icon in lock screen? While in my homescreen the icon is showing asterisk :(

Agree 👍
This is so good, thank you! I wish there was a tutorial to set this up in Obsidian too

Glad I could help!
I'm adapting your method in my markdown notes and it has helped me, it's a more complete framework
First one here. Thank you so much for these videos. Love them
haha, that makes me very happy :)
Very useful video. Thanks.
I’m here for it friend keep them coming!!!

Hey, this is not the expected behavior of the shortcut. You should only need to click OK once. Let me check.
Have you made a changes to the shortcut? I just downloaded it and it works as expected.

Muchas gracias por estos vídeos tan útiles.

Please tell me where I can download the icon you use for your shortcut
In the shortcut app you can select the heavy asterisk icon for any shortcut.
Just became familiar with text replacement in settings - heavy asterisk. Where does the symbol come from when you type the two greater than symbols under Projects - “>>”?
Type >> then ** and the Heavy Asterisk will be inserted. You need to have the Heavy Asterisk text replacement set up first.

Hey. I’ve created the headings and I can add existing notes under it using >> but you mention you can add new notes. How do I do this ?
Type >> and keep on typing a title for your new note. Then click Create Note.

You can set it up anyway you like. If you’re comfortable with PARA set it up that way.

You can set the icon in the shortcut settings of the shortcut you’re linking to.
Didn’t work
Which part?
If every note shall be tagged forevernote, that’s the same as not tagging any note. So I don’t understand that advice.
If you have a lot of Apple Notes already, then it would filter for all the notes you’d use in the system and help to transition
Only system notes are tagged with #ForeverNotes, not your regular notes. It's just a way to implement an Inbox for example with notes that have no tags yet.
