How the heck do you create a shortcut to that one note?
Been using this method for a bit and loving it so far, question on setup for February ... I noticed there isn't a 29 February note, is the thought you would just use 28 Feb for leap years? Or are people creating a 29 February note and then what would be the best practice to manage the back / next links
How does the folder and tags system work seperately? Their function are same for me if I view them as categorize tools.
Heya! I just started implementing this into my system and it’s great! I’d just like to ask how you’re able to turn your headings into numbered lists? Whenever I try to add something like, “1. Heading”, Notes removes the number. 🥲
This is a game changer. I am a big fan of all of your framework. Looking forward to put it in action!
Sounds great, David!
Whats the 🗓️ icon?
It’s a dynamic shortcut to Today’s Journal note.
@@myforevernotes how do you setup the Today's Journal note?
Isn’t this the same idea as Maps of content from Obsidian users?
It’s a simpler version based on Nick Milo’s MOC.
I have one question, where could i put all this amounts of notes which will be linked to different hubs, or Home page .. Should i put all in one folder called Forever Notes, So it will be my storage Bin and I can access all through the system ... Home page, Collections, Hubs .. etc .... OR there is different way !?
Just keep them in your default Notes folder. Less work :)
I found your channel a few days ago and absolutely love the system! I implemented it and it works well so far, but I have a collection for each Hub I've created. I currently have under 100 notes so some collections have only 6 notes in them... I'm thinking that only having a Hub for those might be enough but sometimes I forget to add note links on hubs 😅
What’s the reason to create both a Hub and a Collection for these notes?
@ I suppose it's handy to check if I missed adding any notes to the corresponding Hub. And I suppose I'm still getting used to the new system, because I used to have folders for basically the same categories. It might be force of habit
This is great but what about all those notes that are like post it notes where you’re jotting down a random piece of info you don’t want to forget. For example- all window measurements for your home when ordering blinds.
Use the daily note for this type of info or create notes with the tag #fleeting and a ✱ Fleeting notes collection. Delete notes you don’t need anymore.
What did he paste in at 2:25 I don’t get it 😂?
Here’s the detailed info about the Heavy Asterisk: ua-cam.com/video/Oe1453Ugylc/v-deo.htmlsi=h9AAgHEnSq8_ScU9
Is Today link dynamic ?
It is thanks to Apple Shortcuts.
I have moments where I need some motivation. So, I help my future self by creating a motivation collection of notes that can help me whenever I feel down.
I use hubs for my book notes. I have a hub with sections for each chapter and the link to notes with important quotes and reflections from each chapter. It’s great! Thank you so much!
"Hubs transform you from a passive note taker to an active knowledge builder." *Brilliant.
Thanks again! I’m looking forward to your Journal Video!
Yay, thank you!
I like your videos, but this one I don’t understand. What’s the difference between a hub and a folder? You didn’t really explain this in the video? It’d be helpful to know.
@@PhilipHollowaychannel fundamentally, with this framework you have no need for folders. It makes things more complicated when trying to search for things because you won’t always know what is in which folder. Functionally, they kind of work the same way because you’re connecting multiple smaller branches to the larger branch (multiple notes connected to one area - Hub/Folder). The difference is that you’re creating new notes/documents and linking between them which can all be done within notes without having to leave the note and go into the folders.
I think the general idea is that you can more easily navigate through your notes than if you had them in a large unstructured folder. I use Bear as my note taking app and since it uses tags as folders I’ve had to cudtomize Forever Notes to fit in with the app. In my hubs I have a couple direct links to important notes (max 5-10 usually) and then I’ve created a shortcut that takes the folder name (tag name) as the parameter and then opens that folder. That way I can easily navigate ti each folder from the hub. It collects all my important notes and all related folder into one note which work great in bear. Like this: ✱ Work - Work contacts - Another important work related note ## Clients - Client 1 (shortcut that opens the folder with the tag “work/clients/client 1”) - Client 2 ## Projects - … - … Might not be 100% Forever Notes but it’s a great adaptation for me with Bear at least
@@adamisaacpena thank you
A hub is the overview and table of contents for that topic and since hubs live in the Home note using folders would undermine that central point of your digital note/knowledge life. Think of the Home note like the Home Button/Swipe Up, it's where you go to jump to everything else.
I think of a hub like a table of context that helps you find a note. If a note were a page in a book, the hub would be the table of context that tells me where the note is, but cooler cause it’s a link to the note.
Hi Matthias! Woher in Österreich kommst du denn? ;) Liebe Grüße aus Oberösterreich!
Ich lebe in Wien ❤️
Hi Matthias, just another interesting video. The good point is that we can apply this system not only to Apple notes, but also for other apps like Onenote.
✱ Good One but try to bring Videos Fast ( this framework really helped me )
I’m trying my best 😉
Thank you for the Forever ✱ Notes framework. I want this framework to grow into other iOS ecosystem apps as well. Something like Forever ✱ Reminders, Forever ✱ Journal & Forever ✱ Calendar etc.
Where can find/create cover images like in video?
For specifically Notes? I think it’s just attaching an image before adding Title text
Nope, i mean like Black and white hubs header
@@bardak81do you mind a timestamp so I can see what you’re referencing? Idk if I can help you for sure, but I can try. 2:46 - like here?
@ Thanx you. But I mean The image on top in The ✱ Home note
At 1:57 I think they mean?
It’s basically using hyperlinks to build out a “webpage” in your notes … complete with breadcrumb backlinks. I love it! I’m so glad Apple added linking. I also use an e-ink device called the SuperNote that has the same linking ability.
The framework has really helped me keep track of everything. Cleaning up my Notes, I’m find subfolders that I forgot I made or duplicate half finished notes
So happy to hear Forever ✱ Notes works well for you!
you have made my life so much easier, i love taking notes now, just for the hell of it :D
Haha, great 👍
You’re brilliant Sir
Many thanks
Very useful video. Thanks.
Just became familiar with text replacement in settings - heavy asterisk. Where does the symbol come from when you type the two greater than symbols under Projects - “>>”?
Type >> then ** and the Heavy Asterisk will be inserted. You need to have the Heavy Asterisk text replacement set up first.
so, just notion/obsidian?
What do you mean?
So I recently started using the para method by Tiago which is brilliant. What I like is that I can mirror the system in other apps like reminders and files (im running iPadOS). would this framework mirror well to the other apps in the ecosystem too? And is there a way this framework can coexist with the para method. this seems like a much neater system which also tackles the aesthetics (or lack there of) in the native apple apps, so kudos to you 👏🏾
Incredible. However, I wonder: would it be a bad idea to just keep the existing organization and add forever notes as a layer on top, making both systems accessible at the same time? That is, within each subfolder I create a hub and create a main home note etc. Hope I’m getting my point across. At first glance at least I don’t see any loss from storing my notes within subfolders while still implementing the forever notes system?
Yeah, give it a try. I’m thinking about a new component for Forever ✱ Notes which uses Folders for Sharing that might conflict with this approach, but nevertheless the system should work for you.
Would it be correct to think of hubs as thematic index pages? Or almost like focused tables of contents?
They can include notes themselves, so it’s not “just” an index page of linked notes.
For People, i just use the Contacts App, there you can add a description for a Person. So I habe everything about Contacts in one Space
The forever journal is not a new concept. The first person I remember talking about this is the "New Perspectives" UA-cam Channel like almost a year ago. It was a very popular video also. You need to credit people if you are going to implement their ideas into your "framework." I appreciate the new ideas when it comes to using it in Apple Notes (implementing the annual/quarterly/monthly system was an idea I actually had before seeing this video too), but please give credit to the creators on UA-cam who have already been talking about this.
I appreciate your concern, Londya! When it comes to concepts like journaling and structured note-taking, many ideas-like annual/quarterly/monthly systems-are widely shared across the productivity community and have been discussed for years. My focus with Forever ✱ Notes is to bring these ideas together in a way that’s simple, actionable, and tailored to Apple Notes. That said, I do credit creators like ‘New Perspectives’ and others on the Forever ✱ Notes website. I believe it’s important to celebrate these contributions and the shared evolution of productivity ideas.
@@myforevernotes Oh, that is so wonderful to hear! Often times people on the internet take credit for what other people have created and it's one of my biggest pet peeves lol. I'm glad you credited all the people who have contributed to the theory behind your framework and website. I haven't gotten a chance to explore the site yet, but I am currently setting up my Forever Notes in Apple Notes right now. Thanks for getting back to me!
What is the best way to translate the word: hub into german, Zentrum? It sounds weird... I'm currently creating your structure and I'm really excited about how it looks. 👌🏼
Maybe “Übersicht”?
Why my shortcut icon (asterisk) is showing apple notes icon in lock screen? While in my homescreen the icon is showing asterisk :(
It seems the author invented Notion 😇
Just showing what’s possible in Apple Notes. Didn’t invent anything.
yeah but without notion spying on you, with offline support, with a NATIVE app that doesn’t feel like garbage web app crap on mobile or desktop, and even with 10000 notes the app stays blazingly fast.
I am reading a book and I want to keep notes but I don’t understand how you are organizing all of the notes for the books. Can you help?
Really nice tips and great method of exploring the Apple notes potential.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I just cleaned up my notes using this system and the PARA System together and I feel a lot less stressed now that my Notes are nice and neat and organized! I still need to perfect the system, but I'm on my way to sanity and productivity!
Excellent!
I have created several smart folders (in my collection of over 3,000 notes) and I am now seeing dramatic keyboard lagging as I enter or modify note contents. At times, I can type an entire line of text before it appears on screen. I have reported this in Apple Community, and I am wondering if others are seeing this. I am wondering it the system overhead to keep my smart folders current is impacting performance. Comments or other experience with this?
I’ve been using notes and reminders for a while now. This video gave me even more tips. THANK YOU!
I'm so glad!
Hey. I’ve created the headings and I can add existing notes under it using >> but you mention you can add new notes. How do I do this ?
Type >> and keep on typing a title for your new note. Then click Create Note.
What is the difference between a collection and a smart folder? You click the same spot each time.
Collections are smart folders.
Hi Matthias! I just joined your forum and I am currently working on back-linking this amazing journal feature that you have! I just wanted to know if there were plans to do a video that goes through your specific set-up? I really like how you have financial trackers and other things linked in, so i'm just curious to see how that's integrated in the notes system
Yes, a video about the journal setup is coming.
Please tell me where I can download the icon you use for your shortcut
In the shortcut app you can select the heavy asterisk icon for any shortcut.
Is this in the App Store? I can’t find it.
Never mind. I’ve been highly misled by my assumptions. 🤣🤣🤣
