Purchased my 991 Carrera S from Nathan 3 years ago. Nathan convinced me to drive it back to Northern Minnesota, probably the most fun I have had with my clothes on. Through the Cascade Mts. Up into the Rockies, across the Bighorns and up through the Blackhills. The 991 is a great touring car, thank you Nathan for allowing me to bond with this fantastic vehicle!
Purchased a 2013 991.1 C2S MT in 2016. 21,000 miles on the odometer and paid somewhere in the high 70s for it. Just a great car. Awesome cockpit layout, great power to weight ratio. Handling characteristics are fantastic. A pure joy to drive. Yes, I baby it, its a weekend warrior mostly with some occasional trips. Keeps me smilin'.
Do you think $63,900 for a 2013 991.1 Carrera S coupe, with 78k miles is overpriced? Clean title, 5 prior owners, no accidents, aqua blue metallic, beige interior, PDK.
The start of the best looking 911 ever. The 991.1 targa, just beautiful. You can talk performance all day long but most 911s are fast enough for common roads and speed limits. The beauty of the targa changed my mind on the 911.
Just got my hands on a 2013 991.1 Carrera S. Incredible car, light 3.100 Lbs, fast and smooth, and very comfortable on the road. In Normal Mode, in contract to Sport, Sport Exhaust turned off, it is scarily quiet. Be prepared to pay to $75,000 + for one of these cars...I paid nearly $80.0 and don't regret it for a moment...thank the good gods above that Porsche made quite a few of these before going to the twin Turbo 991.2.
How many miles did it have when you purchased it? I'm planning to purchase a 2013 991.1 Carrera S with 79,000 miles. They list from for $63,900. I offered $59,500. Good deal?
Hi, I just got my 991.1 C4S and I can't believe this Porsche, I've had 45 or so Porsche in my life and I looked into the 991-2012-2016 as what I thought I wanted- Very happy and his older brother is a 1996 993-Twin-midnight blue and tan interior with 21K- can't bring myself to drive him a lot, so that was my hope to get great newer Porsche and WOW- these are great cars!
I just bought a 2012 991.1. I haven't had it long but I'm loving it so far. I wanted a "smaller" vehicle around 3,000lbs with good handling and power, and something that pulled my heart strings when I looked at it and heard it. It's checked all of those boxes. The only "downside" is it's a PDK and I wanted a manual, but I gave up trying to find my "perfect" spec. The PDK is much better than I thought it would be. I only drive it in manual mode and it acts like a manual whereas an automatic in manual mode still acts like an automatic that you shift - night and day difference behind the wheel.
Bought a 2012 S in February. I’ve wrung out some extra power with exhaust, plenum, intake and tuning. About 460 bhp. Added the third, center radiator for our desert temps in AZ. The only car I’ve ever owned that I have “raced” (one autocross so far) or put on a track (owner’s experience at Porsche LA). Its handling and drive train are flat out exhilarating. Nathan has it about right. I was considering a 997, but the 991.1 has a more robust and reliable power plant, and it’s part of a model progression that is simply more car all around. I’ve had to fix some things already, including all the change over valves and a new wiring harness for them since the original 991.1 COV’s were simply not up to par and Porsche changed vendors in 2014. New drive belt, belt tensioner, expensive PDK service for 60,000 mile service, etc. Planning to upgrade the suspension with Ohlins coilovers and GT3 lower control arms for a bit more camber. Installed an aftermarket Apple CarPlay unit for streaming audio and navigation. It’s a keeper.
Purchased a 2013 911 991.1 Carrera S Cabriolet with 33k miles CPO. I will say this is probably the most amazing car I’ve purchased. Drives and handle like a dream it also screams loud when pushing hard on it. But buyers be ware, if you do not get a warranty on a car like this you will regret it! Although this vehicle had low miles I’ve had to replace various things. So far this car has had a PDK transmission replacement, 2 motor mounts, window switch, amongst many other things like new set of tires and battery all at the tune of over 20k. If you have money to burn then take the chances if not I definitely recommend getting the BEST warranty. I spent 5500 on the warranty and it’s paid it’s self off several times over. JM&A covered all the components thus far.
I had the washer fluid hose fail on my 981, and it is a super easy fix. I have tons of metric air tubing and fittings at my disposal at work. The plastic washer fluid line is 6mm OD, so I used some flexible urethane tubing (SMC TU0604B) and one touch couplers (SMC KQ2H06-00) to splice it. Better than new. Lots of other brands out there too.
I absolutely love my 2015 4S Cabriolet with PDK. I bought it late in 2019 right before the pandemic during one of those dead months form car sales perspective. It had ~26k miles, one owner from FL, clean Carfax. I bought it sight unseen and had it delivered to VA. Then, I paid about $4k below average retail value - mostly because I got it from GM/Cadillac dealership and that car did not fit their inventory at all, so they had in stock for about 90 days. In 19 months I only put 3,700 miles on it and funny part - now with this absolutely crazy car market my 911 is worth at least $5k more than I paid. Don’t bother to contact me about selling it - no way I’m letting it go!😁
This is perhaps the most information rich video on the 991.1 that I've seen. The two guests are extremely knowledgeable and made the full hour a good investment of time. Regarding the host, and please don't take this the wrong way as you seem like a super nice guy and my intention is purely constructive, but you could have done a little homework in advance - even 10 minutes to read the spec sheet would have made a big difference.
Thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed the video. We do try to do our homework, but we also look forward to hearing and learning from the experts as viewers do.
Bought my used 991.1 (first Porsche!) In 2019 after the unexpected passing of 3 friends reminded me that life is short. It's my daily driver for everything. Have talked about it, including the pickup and family road trip home (Seattle to SF) on my UA-cam channel.
Exactly my thoughts after some cell phone yapping lame brain in a BMW ran into my stopped-in-traffic motorcycle while on my annual motorcycle tour in the Alps. It snapped my lower leg and I spent five months on crutches. Life is short, so I bought my first Porsche 911 Carrera, a 993 in 2009. Now I have two of them including a 991.1 Carrera 4 GTS.
Capable does not always translate to fun. I do prefer the more analog feel of the 996/997. The numbers say they are not as good, however, i personally feel the engagement it far more important.
Not sure I agree with these guys on a few things. 1) Manual tranny on 991.1 is just fine. It may not be as good as the 6 speed in the 918 (but it's fine). Don't opt for the PDK based on that. 2) Manual 991's are harder to find and are commanding a premium. 3) SC is the must have option - not PSE. Even on manual 991's, the SC adds dynamic engine mounts and makes the car sharper. You can really tell the difference between Sport vs,.Sport Plus (the way the throttle is mapped, etc.).
Damn. Picked up a 15 991.1 2CS PDK CAB about 11 months ago with 10k miles on it. Not really being a Porsche guy (didn’t even know what 991 meant at time of purchase), it’s a pleasant surprise to hear real Porsche people not dissing my car for lack of a GT2/3/TurboS badge on the back. 👍
One correction: the 991.1 is actually 10kg lighter than the 997 despite being bigger, S model to S model. Similar small difference in the base model as well.
Oh, the PDK does fail! Fortunately, I had a warranty on my 2010 Panamera S. About 82k miles, it started to slip. Took it to the Porsche dealership,as no one wanted to touch the task of dealing with it. They don't repair them. After complete replacement, it was over $30000. Make sure that it is serviced at the proper intervals (30000 miles ?) they DO fail! Granted, it was 14 years old.
My door handles are missing magnets inside, the only issue I can’t fix well 😂 otherwise pretty easygoing. Daily 7 manual is not a problem at all, as long as the transmission mount insert is replaced, 31 mpg with roof down, no complaints.
Exactly why I bought a "slightly used" 2015 911 Carrera 4 GTS with a 7-speed manual and a mere 98 miles on it. And that was in the summer 2018, so it was a 3y 1m old used car. Plus it had $45,620 in factory options, mostly performance options. So why did I not buy a new 991.2 for less money? The 3.0L and turbos and there is nothing wrong with that, but it is not what I wanted in my Porsche. I also did not want a PDK. Now what gets me is the 991 series has been around since 2012, and till the very end, they have coolant leaks from either the water pump and/or the plastic coolant pipe. Now it took them long enough to "maybe" sort out the issues (a redesigned plastic coolant pipe and another part number for the water pump). I realize it isn't every owner, but some owners have had them replaced at least once. Sort of reminds me of domestic car corporate mentality. I joke about it because maybe Porsche was never meant to produce a liquid cooled car as I also have a air-cooled 993.
@@williamhickerson4316 The cost was a bunch of O-rings and the updated plastic coolant pipe (that I never used). Maybe $40. I was on CPO but chose to do this myself as I hate anyone messing with my vehicles.
Thank you for replying. On Friday the 8th I purchased my dream car, 991.1 Carrera S with 78k miles in excellent condition. Also purchased an extended warranty for $3,100. Fully covered, bumper to bumper. 3 years, and 45k miles.
I have a 2014 Carrera 4S 911 PDK, with chronograph pkg, the reat shock went out last year, we fixed it but was around $2500 by the dealer. Luckily only one shock absorber. Has the ability to stiffen shock values.
You guys also need to keep in mind the reason these cars constantly grow. When we are driving on the autobahn here in Germany at 250kph the cars need to be safe fast. We drive fast here and other cars drive fast and you need all these additional safety features built in. 911 is basically now a performance GT car. You will need to drop down to the Cayman and in 2024 the Cayman will be truly a smaller 911. Love your channel. 🎉
Hi guys, I have a Porsche 911 Carrera 4s 991.1 with 33,000 miles PDK transmission, the sound of its naturally aspirated engine is phenomenal. I use it almost daily. I recently went on a long trip with my wife and two children, ages 9 and 7. From Monterrey Nuevo Leon to Los Cabos BCS in Mexico, it was 2,400 miles. The 911 behaved fantastically on long journeys, if I could I would buy another one like it!! Thank you for your very knowledgeable talks.
Bought a Racing Yellow 991.1 and absolutely love it. That naturally aspirated engine is a remarkable sounding engine. Bought the car in 2020 with CPO and only 10k miles on the car. Owning 104 cars over the last 42 years, I wish I would have driven a 911 earlier in life
Really interesting talk for a relatively new (12 months) Porsche owner. Surprised no mention made of the COVs? Have had 2 replaced in the last 4 months
performance and actual driving experience are two different things. the 991 has amazing performance numbers however a older air cooler 911 like a Porsche 964 gives the driver much more viseral race car feel and very fun to drive.
'14 c2s pdk sport chrono acquired it on '15 it had almost 10k miles (lease return). Now it has close to 55k miles. Installed akropovic exhaust and it sounds phenomenal. Pretty solid car, no major mechanical problems yet (knock on wood).
What about the door panels delamination in these 991. Does anybody know if Porsche is going to fix this issue? Is unbelievable that a vehicle that cost over $100,000 can have this type of defect.
I sit here confused.. do i do the base 997.2 C or base 991.1 C. Love the look of the 991 but unsure as to the difference hydrologic steering effects feedback compared to the 991.1 .. any help would be appreciated. Is it a marked difference or to the un-initiated , you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
I have a 17 base coupe with the 7 spd. I find it to be a great transmission and powerplant over all, the APR tune helps as well since it is now more powerful than a stock .2 GTS!
Amazing presentation comments and things we learned about our babies, one question I had from a market stand point will the S hold its value better then the 4S? And if money was not an object what will you choose between all the 991.1 variations
Great show! Now I’m definitely no longer on the fence in-terms of selling my car and getting something newer. I purchased a NEW 2015 rodium silver c2s cab in 2016. Was able to get about 22K off MSRP because the dealer was trying to clear for new 991.2 models. I really wanted this car for the 3.8 L NA engine. Very glad I did. PDK and sport chrono with 20” sport techno rims. My wifes only complaint is lack of infotainment upgrade and apple car play( which we have in our 2018 Macan). 🤔🤔🤔 maybe I will keep it that way so I can drive it more !
You guys are depreciating my 991.1 C2S, because now that I've watched this it would be rude for me not to take it out for a drive and put more miles on it! Beautiful car in the video though. My car is a C2S, same colour combo (dark blue metallic with Luxor Beige). Mine is the coupe, PDK, PSE, Chrono. I've had it for 2.5 years and will never let it go.
Hey I'm considering a 991. I had a 997 as a daily driver but found it difficult live with on long trips. A lot of noise in the cabin. Anyone gone from 997-991? How did you find it? More of a useable daily due to the longer wheel base? Thanks.
I have had a wonderful 997 tip. Great car. Bought the 991.1 S better than the 997 in so many ways. Too much to explain, just find the best one you can and buy it..
The 991.1 Option I wanted to hear your opinions on is Adaptive Cruise Control. Does anyone have it on their 911? What has been your experience with using it?
If you live in FL or any hot and humid state the alcantara headliner will start to sag and it is $$$ for a factory OEM replacement. Mine needed to be replaced at 15,000 miles which is all I have on my 2013 991. Carrera S coupe.
Do you think $63,900 for a 2013 991.1 Carrera S coupe, with 78k miles is overpriced? Clean title, 5 prior owners, no accidents, aqua blue metallic, beige interior, PDK.
Yes, I believe that is high. I'm looking too. For the higher mileage cars, I'm seeing them, arguably, in the $55k range. They, probably, are looking for a counter offer. Who pays asking price?
@@thomashelm6931 The seller in Arizona wouldn't budge on the price... And the specific options I've been looking for happened to be exactly the one I ended up purchasing. @@richardbrooks4615 I did, I flew to Arizona and purchased it. I ended up realizing that a similar car will be very difficult to find again if I didn't pull the trigger. Today, a year later I was right. I still haven't found one like the one that I have. No regrets, 100% happiness.
@@PorscheClubofAmerica ...its not recommended for track use but I have made some hard stops with no problem on the street. When I replaced the pads I also replaced the rotors as well.
Bit of a middle child since it's not as raw as the 997.2 or as fast and good looking as the 991.2 but at the same time it's kind of a goldilocks because it's newer and easier to find than a 97.2 but still NA unlike the 91.2
Re: Turbo charging. Its got to do with Porsche carbon footprint (emissions). Not exactly the same as fuel efficiency. The Europeans are big on this. That's why all European car manufacturers are turbo charging everything. ie one litre turbo charged Peugeots.
Is it unrealistic to drive a 991.1 as daily driver when you drive 30,000+ miles a year? May seem like a sin to some but I want to enjoy the car everyday not just as a weekend of couple of days a week car. Thank you for the feedback.
@@Rhammond356 If you have the key in your pocket and you wave your hand near the front of the hood, the trunk opens. That also happens when you wash the vehicle.
Too much time talking about 99.2 turbo in the beginning and they missed the biggest issue with 911 convertibles. The top gets completely destroyed with flat spots, creases and unsightly wrinkles, all because of the way it sits in the rear. Porsche has never acknowledged this problem even though it has persisted through 996, 997 and 991.
42:00 Headlight delamination? Really? On a mega-dollar car? They better not on my PDLS equipped GTS. Porsche, there is a reason why I didn't buy a Macan as a daily driver. I expect minimal repairs in long term car ownership which is why I bought a new Acura RDX. This is like listening to a bunch of Harley Davidson owners bowing at the ankles to their vehicles with issues.
I have been bitten by the 911 bug. I have been looking online and found a 991.2 (2018) GTS that looks like a strong candidate, although I would prefer the manual to the PDK. It is a certified car. Of course, the dealer wants way too much for it. My question is, how much can I expect to pay to extend the certification? Is that an item that I can negotiate, or do I just spread my cheeks?

When we are driving on the autobahn here in Germany at 250kph the cars need to be safe fast. We drive fast here and other cars drive fast and you need all these additional safety features built in.
911 is basically now a performance GT car.
You will need to drop down to the Cayman and in 2024 the Cayman will be truly a smaller 911.
Love your channel. 🎉
Thanks for watching!
Hi guys,
I have a Porsche 911 Carrera 4s 991.1 with 33,000 miles PDK transmission, the sound of its naturally aspirated engine is phenomenal.
Great show! I enjoy hearing the experts comment and always learn a ton.
Thanks for watching!
I just bought a 991.1 cab. This session was very useful. Thanks to all three of you.
Congratulations!!!
Bought a Racing Yellow 991.1 and absolutely love it. That naturally aspirated engine is a remarkable sounding engine. Bought the car in 2020 with CPO and only 10k miles on the car. Owning 104 cars over the last 42 years, I wish I would have driven a 911 earlier in life
wow... that is a lot of cars!! Happy to hear you finally joined the Porsche fam.
That frunk opening feature is that only available with keyless entry
Really interesting talk for a relatively new (12 months) Porsche owner. Surprised no mention made of the COVs? Have had 2 replaced in the last 4 months
Thanks! Have details on the COVs you can share?
performance and actual driving experience are two different things. the 991 has amazing performance numbers however a older air cooler 911 like a Porsche 964 gives the driver much more viseral race car feel and very fun to drive.
Wife says two rules, 1)Convertible 2)Automatic....Manual stays, Wife goes, wouldn't have to even think about it.
'14 c2s pdk sport chrono acquired it on '15 it had almost 10k miles (lease return). Now it has close to 55k miles. Installed akropovic exhaust and it sounds phenomenal. Pretty solid car, no major mechanical problems yet (knock on wood).
Thanks for sharing!
Just purchased a 2014 Turbo S ! Super excited for its arrival.
Great choice. Enjoy!
The aero kit fell flat. Tough audience. I love it.
I had a 2012 s and 90k miles no problems exept the little vacuum solenoid for the heat same thing on my 2014 turbo one hr $100
This is terrific my real favorite after years is 991.1 I want NA PDK and they're so modern. Large luxury. Cheers from Tampa Bay 🌴🤙🏻
We don't blame you!
have a 2013 911 4s but no camera or parking sensors ! anybody have tips about that ? how to install or where ? thanks!
What should i pay for a 2016 991.1 carrera S manual with 25k miles on this market?
Thank you guys for the great review. I just acquired a 2012 Carrera 911 991
Congratulations!
NA cars my favorite hv. 2015 gts cab…and boy does it sound good…traded my 2017 targa 4 gts not a big fan of the 3L mini turbos!!
I have a 17 base coupe with the 7 spd. I find it to be a great transmission and powerplant over all, the APR tune helps as well since it is now more powerful than a stock .2 GTS!
Yes! Frankly, I don't care for the cabriolet for Porsche. However, to the point made, here, the 991 cabriolet has a good roof line.

Enjoy the drive!
Women always find something to complain about. Never fails.
is headlights cover by extended warranty ?
You guys are depreciating my 991.1 C2S, because now that I've watched this it would be rude for me not to take it out for a drive and put more miles on it!
Beautiful car in the video though. My car is a C2S, same colour combo (dark blue metallic with Luxor Beige). Mine is the coupe, PDK, PSE, Chrono. I've had it for 2.5 years and will never let it go.
Enjoy every mile!!
Greetings from the Sun Coast region, I have the same car in the S version!
Hand gesture that opens the frunk is a pain in the ass while washing the car though!
I can see how that might be an issue.
Exactly. One should be able to turn off features like that in the MID. Another useless high-tech feature.
2016 GTS is (right before all turbos) is best car u can purchase for daily! And long time hold car! Perfect combo of power and comfort and sounds...
Thanks for sharing
Hey I'm considering a 991. I had a 997 as a daily driver but found it difficult live with on long trips. A lot of noise in the cabin. Anyone gone from 997-991? How did you find it? More of a useable daily due to the longer wheel base? Thanks.
I have had a wonderful 997 tip. Great car. Bought the 991.1 S better than the 997 in so many ways. Too much to explain, just find the best one you can and buy it..
I had a rock get in my 2012 fan burnt the motor out easy fix it need a screen on the wheel well vent .
Just picked up a 991.1 manual C4S. Great car.
The 991.1 Option I wanted to hear your opinions on is Adaptive Cruise Control. Does anyone have it on their 911? What has been your experience with using it?
Why is it so hard to find 991.1 pre-owned 911s with Adaptive Cruise Control?
@@michaelrussell7854 hi I have a 2015 c4s with acc it works flawless plus its a rare seen option on a Carrera s mostly you will see it on gts.s
I don't really know what to make of those overalls. Interesting choice.
Great video!
Once you've worked on a car with them, you can't live without them :)
I can’t seem to figure out production numbers for my 991.1 GTS, 7MT with centerlock wheels?
997 was the sexiest serie ever
If you live in FL or any hot and humid state the alcantara headliner will start to sag and it is $$$ for a factory OEM replacement. Mine needed to be replaced at 15,000 miles which is all I have on my 2013 991. Carrera S coupe.
Thanks for sharing!
So my choice was to keep looking for another unicorn 🦄 or purchase the one For Sale at list price. I know what I want and how HARD it is to find.... So I purchased it before opportunity is gone. 4 months later and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! 😍🤩
@@williamhickerson4316 u paid the 63,9?
@@richardbrooks4615 I did, I flew to Arizona and purchased it. I ended up realizing that a similar car will be very difficult to find again if I didn't pull the trigger. Today, a year later I was right. I still haven't found one like the one that I have. No regrets, 100% happiness.
does 991.1 suffer from engine scoring issue?
Vík from Chile. Just getting a 2013 991.1S
Not running the piss out of a Porsche is a crime!
I will never sell my 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S 991.1 that I purchased and custom ordered brand new from Germany.
Dear Santa, remember I said TARGA :)
What about the black edition?
EBC ceramic brake pads will leave hardly any brake dust.
Any difference in stopping power?
@@PorscheClubofAmerica ...its not recommended for track use but I have made some hard stops with no problem on the street. When I replaced the pads I also replaced the rotors as well.
I got ebc red stuff. I heard yellow is good too.
Hey Vu, have you or will you ever get into any panamera stuff on the show? I have a 970s at 55k and any thing 970 would be great.
Love the show!
Brady
We'll definitely do a Panamera episode in the near future.
Can you tune a 991.1 manual? Is it worth it?
I picked a manual 997.2 GTS over the 991 cars
The 997.2 car might be the next 993
Is rear axle steering available for the 991.1 C4s?
The panels pull away on the 968 also.
Thanks for sharing. Be sure to subscribe.
Bit of a middle child since it's not as raw as the 997.2 or as fast and good looking as the 991.2 but at the same time it's kind of a goldilocks because it's newer and easier to find than a 97.2 but still NA unlike the 91.2
The 991.1 is absolutely a better soundtrack!!
Hello all, I have a 2013 base standard blue on blue , just luv it 😎
Re: Turbo charging. Its got to do with Porsche carbon footprint (emissions). Not exactly the same as fuel efficiency. The Europeans are big on this. That's why all European car manufacturers are turbo charging everything. ie one litre turbo charged Peugeots.
It's funny to listen to the market comments knowing what we know now.
Keep up the great videos. Love the give aways. Can you consider using time stamps.
Noted!
Is it unrealistic to drive a 991.1 as daily driver when you drive 30,000+ miles a year? May seem like a sin to some but I want to enjoy the car everyday not just as a weekend of couple of days a week car. Thank you for the feedback.
991.1 can and should be a daily driver! Enjoy it!
As Porsche purists how do y’all feel about RWB Porsches?
RWBs certainly are not for the purists, but we love the passion that goes into creating each of them.
@@PorscheClubofAmerica Cool to hear. I thought you guys would think RWB Porsches were sacrilegious or something lol
Nice work; Great overview on 991.1; before and after. Cheers.
Glad you liked it!
No bore scoring on 991s?
That guy busts a huge dad fart at 5:20. I am rolling right now lol!!!!!
He was nose breathing into the mic.
Ok now I just need a 911 so I can join the Porsche Club lol
Do it!
Can't have your key fob in your pocket when washing. Found out the hard way!
Not sure I understand the issue?
@@Rhammond356 If you have the key in your pocket and you wave your hand near the front of the hood, the trunk opens. That also happens when you wash the vehicle.
Any thoughts on the 4CS version?
Ric Hammond Intermountain Region
Nathan needs to get a better mic. Hard to hear him as he moves his head volume changes and sometimes to low to hear.
Thank you for the feedback. We will make sure to take it into consideration next time we are filming.
100 % fuel economy? my 991.1s has gotten over 30 mpg at a prolonged 75-80 ! At worst on trips over 100 freeway miles I might "only" get 28!!!
I don’t care how great the PDK is. I want to drive. Manual only.
Thanks for sharing!
@@PorscheClubofAmerica My pleasure, and thank you for taking it constructively
Great video. Thanks for sharing guys 👍
Thanks for watching!
Great video, thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
42:00 Headlight delamination?
Is that an item that I can negotiate, or do I just spread my cheeks?
great insights Thank you!!!!
I love my 1978 924
These guys make me want to rethink owning a porsche...almost as bad as tesla guys
Not nearly. But is important to buy the right car and know what you're going into.
