- The FBI director's testimony on Capitol Hill provided new details into the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13.
Federal investigators said Thomas Matthew Crooks fired from a roof near the rally, wounding Trump and two supporters, and killing a former fire chief in the crowd, identified as Corey Comperatore.
While testifying before the House Judiciary Committee, FBI Director Christopher Wray revealed the shooter never used a ladder to get onto the roof.
Wray explained "we now believe that the subject climbed onto the roof using some mechanical equipment on the ground and vertical piping on the side of the building. He added, "in other words, we do not believe he used a ladder to get up there."
Investigators initially said evidence pointed to Crooks purchasing a ladder prior to the attack, but added that no ladder was found near the scene.
Wray also revealed that a post on a gaming website believed to be from Crooks prior to the attack was actually someone pretending to be the shooter.
The Associated Press reported that the gunman conducted a Google search of “How far away was Oswald from Kennedy?” about one week prior to the shootng.
Mike Harrigan, a retired chief of the FBI's Firearms Training Program joined LiveNOW from FOX's Josh Breslow to discuss the testimony and the overall investigation.

He figured out that he wouldn’t need it to get on the rooftop.
It wasn’t at the scene or in his vehicle so it must be at home or stashed elsewhere.
I’m more interested in where he was when those two pictures of him were taken (looks like he’s sitting on a wall with a rangefinder) and why he had a vehicle and a bicycle (and a drone, and a bully vest and 2 devices and a detonator).
We need common sense ladder control.

How he got up there is kind of irrelevant when it's clearly visible in overhead photos that there was a ladder. If he chose to climb up something else, he only made it harder for himself. The real question is why did he get as far as he did?
It is relevant if Wray lies to cover something up, since he is the Director of the FBI.
He also had 3 encrypted offshore accounts. Where are those accounts located and how much are in them? Are the FBI looking into that?

Yep. He failed to purchase the right size ladder. They wanted the receipt to match the one they already had propped up for him so they could explain it away. Crooks was too stupid to realize he was taller than 5 feet.

The officer that Hawley's whistleblower says was in charge of being on that roof, who then went inside the air conditioned building because it was too hot, needs to be identified by name. Either he is criminally negligent or maybe he was helping the shooter. DHS and possibly ESU used the same gun range/club that the shooter did and could've had contact with him. Hawley's whistleblower also says another officer was in charge of patrolling the perimeter of the building on foot. Also abandoned his job to stay cool inside.
So nearly two weeks later and the big release from FBI is he didn't use a ladder to get on the roof. I think we knew that. Embarrassing. 🙄

heatherhuffy4135, I've spoken to more than a half dozen roofers by trade since this happened and very one said the same thing. This roof would have been labelled flat, and roofed using materials different from those used on pitched structures.

@cm1642 Accoustics apparently shows 3 shooters; my assumption is (1) Crooks (2) the CST posted on the roof behind the CST closest to Crooks, then (3) that CST.
Also at 137 yards the sounds would be much louder. From what I heard it sounds to be much farther away.

A ladder is visible in some of the early crime scene footage. It’s orange, consistent with the Warner ladders carried by Home Depot.

Let me get this straight. The shooter climbed up some electrical conduit or a drainpipe of some sort carrying a rifle and an equipment bag after he had recently bought a ladder at a big box store. While at the same time there are two not one but two ladders visible in the footage being shown from the media. I may not have been in the very top of my class, but I can tell when someone is trying to blow smoke up my ass

I know I feel better knowing that the assassin used an unspecified method of climbing, other than a ladder. Certainly seems the investigation has been wrapped up nicely. The comparisons to Kennedy’s assassin were a nice and meaningless touch.
Case closed, especially with the shooters newly found Facebook post that read “I am going to act alone, nobody is going to help me secure the steep hot roof”. Case closed.

Who believes Wray that he didn't use the 10 ft fiberglass stepladder and that he used an A/C unit that Wray doesn't properly describe or tell us where it was and on what building? Wray needs to tell us how he knows this. There is one A/C unit on the building in question and it is in full view of the spectators and the countersnipers on the barns. Why did nobody see Crooks climbing up there with a backpack?

@@nighttrain1236 I'd wager that Wray is covering up the probability that, when Crooks found out that the 5ft stepladder he bought at Home Depot that morning was too short, someone provided that ladder for him and put it there. Wray needs to be more forthcoming. What A/C unit? Where was it located? How does he know? The 10 ft stepladder is clearly visible in the helicopter photo that was apparently taken before police arrived on foot and you can see the shooter's body on the roof and the trail of you know what leading down it.
In the body cam from the roof, the officers say the backpack was actually from a medic that climbed up to potentially treat the guy but there was no point. Which is even weirder because that means the gun should have been visable to anyone looking.

Crooks was a right-handed shooter. If he is fatally hit and collapses, his rifle will not fly 6 feet to the left on its own.

He paid the membership to the Clairton Sportmen's (think Assassin's) Club, so they could go and practice together on their 200-yd gun range, and Thomas could drive there alone and drive to Butler. It's crazy to think that PA and federal prosecutors would not hold Mathew Brian Crooks responsible for any of these things. If they don't, they simply aren't doing their jobs.

The early bodycam footage certainly shows a ladder on top of the air conditioning unit.
