Andy: Thank you for yet another epiphany moment. Highlighting the fact that players need to achieve greatness by acknowledging who they are and their personality types. There are many different paths to greatness. As a dad coach to my sons, my two boys cannot be further apart in terms of personality and I've had to adjust my approach and delivery very differently. But I need to seek to amplify the good parts/strengths of their personalities instead of coaching out the negative parts. By amplifying their good traits, this should diminish the negative ones naturally. Thanks so much for this.
Regarding Fritz Sinner: I do match analysis of full matches by watching the game at 50% speed and noting every ball that is hit, where it landed, what type of ball was hit and what might the tactical patterns have been. In addition, I note counter attacks that may have worked better. Sinner was directing balls in such a way as to open the entire court to his forehand by reversing his position immediately after any backhand shot. Fritz should have attacked deeper to his feet with a more aggressively shaped ball. His shots were generally flat landing around the service line right in Sinner's strike zone. Sinner was also so fast on the bounce that he was able to consistently rob time especially when redirecting the rally.
i love those comments how it actualy looks live compare to tv, as also technical parts like movement etc. The best podcast for inside content of proffesional tenis.
Two Week Masters have been bad for the schedule, and for fans. It means players are in tournament mode for longer, with less breaks, and good matches are more thinly spread, depleting the on site and tv viewing experience.
Regarding the athletes schedules, I think they can have and organize as many tournaments as they want. The balance needs to be in the less mandatory events , or a different way to reach mandatory point events, that way athletes have more flexibility to schedule their year based on their objectives, achievements, injuries… etc ..
I've been saying this for a long time now: Sinner was a junior giant slalom champion at the age of 7. His movements are those of a slalom skier. Sinner plays skitennis.
That's so weird I thought the same thing and I've never been skiing. That balance and gracefulness when he's going side to side reminds me of a skier getting in and out of the gates. I told one of my friends that the other day and then I recalled Djokovic was/ is a skier and Roger being Swiss has to be. It's crazy how that seemingly unlike sport as a lot of transfer skills to tennis.
I noticed Sinner's serve improved a lot which makes a big difference . The guy is super fast although he does not get enough credit for that. Overall Sinner is most consistent ball striker forehand and backhand. My only concern about Sinner is if he body will endure the stress over time to allow him to win more than 15 Grand Slams. The same applies to Alcaraz with such aggressive style.
I find a decent way to describe Sinner is Berdych's powerful clean shots with many of Djokovic's skills. That's an effing deadly combination as we can see from his performance and ranking.
@Served with Andy Roddick Just a suggestion to allow every player to plan their own schedule what tournament they want to participate and take ownership instead of ATP/WTA forcing mandatory. On Raducanu she's said repeatedly that she's not going to play a full tournament schedule. In effect she's a part timer. In juniors it was due to physical frailty. Her dad seems to have too much influence - a common tennis issue.
In junior, she couldn't even if she wanted to because she was going to school full time... So, her tennis schedule was limited & had to balance around her regular school schedule...

Mr. Roddick and Mrs. Clijsters, I’ll comment on the Raducanu segment. A lot of people including you are too pressed about Raducanu playing qualifiers for events. I’ll first cite the most recent cases in Cincinnati and Toronto. For Toronto which she was scheduled to play in, the turnover from DC to Toronto was very quick so no real time for her to acclimatize to the conditions. Then we went to Cincinnati, she didn’t make the initial cutoff for them ( rank 94, cutoff 72), and by the time she was in DC quarters, no withdrawals had happened. It wasn’t until a few days before the Cincinnati qualifiers that mass withdrawals happened. Then we go back to the case of the French Open where she withdrew from the qualifiers she said it was to set up her grass swing and it paid off. Back to her US Open preparation if the problem was a lack of match play I believe she should have possibly played in Cleveland or Monterrey the week before the US Open.
I first saw Andy Roddick from the coverage of the US Clay Court championships at the Westside Tennis Club in Houston, TX in 2001. Great to see the great Kim Clijsters back on the show. However I am surprised you did not address the elephant in the room. You don’t usually shy away from controversy. I’m disappointed to say the least. That Nick Kyrios can share major network coverage on WTA players while continuing to abuse them and contributing to some of the most vulgar, degrading and offensive content about female tennis players is reprehensible and incomprehensible in this day and age.
I honestly feel bad for Rybakina, firstly because she's not the kind who likes overexposing at all, secondly because all these conjectures (if true) might undermine her best quality on court: mentality, also off-court of course. I take my heart for Jessica considering she does not have a powerful serve and being a slow mover. Consistency and mental strength are her best qualities.
Andy, I hope you did a little networking while you were at the Open. So many potential interviewees and no doubt the trip inspired many potential topics and ideas. Ben Stiller and his wife, Christine Taylor, are massive tennis fans who know a great deal about the sport. Christine once interviewed Gavin Rossdale, the lead singer of Bush, and they nerded out together on her podcast. Gavin was also a junior tennis player once upon a time and has a strong friendship with Roger Federer. We all know Roger is the biggest fish for you and having Wilson as a sponsor of the pod works in your favour. I can't imagine too many players, coaches, tennis fan celebrities, chair umpires or tournament directors who would reject an interview on Served, given the right scheduling for them.

If Elena Rybakina doesn't step up, Saba will win more majors that we could even imagine. Don't forget how Rybakina destroyed her in Brisbane Final this year. Ryba's peak is way more higher than Saba's.
Tommy Paul will be the one taking care of business. He's got talent, little ego, he is calm, he knows what happens when you don't work hard, now, he works hard.
The issue with Sabalenca is that the “ play to your strengths…” might make her a one dimensional player- those players do not win grand slams in all surfaces. Others will exploit her weaknesses. Think like, Wawrinka, Isner, Muguruza, etc.
Nothing against Coco Gauff, she's a great player, but Iga and Sabalenka aren't much older than her, and don't look like dropping off, then who knows who the next generation of players are. At present she doesn't look like she can surpass them and become the dominant player people thought she would become when she came on the scene so young.
I do take notice that Sabelenka did not likely treat her ex well. Possibly leaving him and had another beau already. No man would come to Miami to watch her play (he was a well known Soccer coach and league leader) then jump to his death. Her rxn? She was practicing hours later being videoed. Why is no one delving into this
@@nancyp7019 hmm I doubt it. It was ruled by the detectives as a suicide. That means whatever but likely not found to be a mistaken fumble as he was a professional soccer player
How do you know that she did not treat him well? It looked to me more likely that he was a washed up hockey player who was riding her fame. Maybe she broke up with him because he was a drunk and using her.
Andy, with all due respect, it’s surely weird that such an amazing firepower as America’a lineup is second to small European individuals that are dictating the future of tennis. It’s not the grits, it’s non the willpower, but it’s gotta be something in the process…
Did you ever watch Pierce? She was the OG of "big babe tennis". Tall and long and was going to hit every ball as hard as she could. The style similarity and footwork/movement (neither are great movers) jumps off the page. Serena was a much bigger frame and really fast for the first decade of her career. Her strokes are quite different as well and she was a very good transition player. They were all power players but Serena was kind of unique.
This is something I wish Andy would address. Everyone in the tennis world seems to ignore it. In Sabalenka’s case it is literally textbook hindrance. Besides being incredibly loud she also doesn’t always make the same noise or same volume level, so you can’t use the old ”they do it consistently” argument. And she often times is still making noise while her opponent is hitting the ball. I can’t speak for any of the other players but as a spectator I can say that it makes me not want to watch tennis when she (and other players, do that.
Sabalenka has irrational confidence. I feel much of it is that she knows she can only win playing one way. She has to keep crushing it. She can't really play defense. Coco is the opposite. She loses confidence easily when she starts missing because she can defend. Coco can win matches just using her wheels to play defense, but having that ability makes it easy to stop hitting when things aren't going well, so it can sort of work against you.
So you didn't watch the video. Saba has variety what made her win the final wasn't hitting hard it was the variety also both Kim and Andy alluded to her movement , movement means defence and that's what has improved with Saba against . Navaro is good at defense , pegula is mid good at defense and oww Coco was destroyed at the AO 23 semi by sabalenka .
@@brazhnervnix3844 that's not what he/she meant. Saba's variety is more like throwing her opponents an occasional changeup to catch them off guard (esp the dropshot); or using the slice to set up the big forehand. doesn't mean she changes her entire game plan, which will always be offensive and looking to tske charge. She even said herself (after the Pegula match i think) that she always needs to remind herself to swing freely, because her game doesn't work otherwise when she plays tentative.
Saba lost the 2023 final not so much to Coco, but to the fans who very strongly supported their African-American, if that final had been in Minsk (in Sabalenka’s homeland), then Coco would not have had a single chance, do not have any illusions😅
@@al1976-v7mI agree with you. I don't care what Andy says. She has one plan only with an occasional drop shot. Dies she even know how to hit body serve?
Raducanu not wanting to play qualies is pure entitlement. There ain’t no other way around it. She thinks she’s too good, when in reality she’s very close to being a blip on a radar as a one slam wonder
Yes American tennis is in a good place but let's stay honest. Taylor and Francis are not gonna win a GS, maybe Ben Shelton but it takes more to win a slam.
This is clearly the best tennis podcast. Andy and Kim are a great listen and have obvious rapport. I'm looking forward to a deeper dive on the schedules...I don't think backloading the 250s is the way to go though. You'd be relegating them to afterthought status, which maybe many of them are anyway, but putting them after the USO would be their death knell. I'd like to see some sort of qualifying tournament from players ranked 150 plus where the winner(s) would automatically qualify for all of the next years majors.
Why would you want to change the qualifying mode?! much better to have dangerous in-form qualifiers with matches under their belt in the draw, rather than people who qualify based on their shape last year. As for the 250s i agree, it wouldn't make sense - and not all 250s are in places where you can play tennis from Oct-Dec. 250s are already relying on paying players to show up, or sometimes local ties and fringe benefits that will entice them to come. Kitzbühel is a great example, players love to come there. But you can't backload it into the winter.
@al1976-v7m oh keep the qualifying for the slams but why not do a tournament/series that let, say, the top 4 finishers in the tournament/series lock up spots in the Slams. There will just be 4 less qualifying spots available when the Slams roll around. This would give smaller year-end 250s some stakes since simply qualifying for Slams can make a top 150 player's year financially.
@@qwerty4126 oh so you're saying to save the 250 tournaments they should be part of such a series? Or you mean this would enhance players' financial security because they would enter the main draw 4 times? I don't quite get it.
@al1976-v7m So you take say 4 250s at the end of the year and run them back to back. And only players ranked say from 151-215 are in them. Each player gets points for how they finish in each of 4 tournaments just like they do in any tournament. But when this group of 4 tournaments are over the 4 with the most points accrued in the 4 tournaments can skip qualifying for next years slams. They're in. Still do qualifying as always for slams but these four players who accrued the 4 most points don't have to do it, which means there won't be as many qualifying spots open through the traditional means. And keep the purses for these 250s at the end of year as they are but you can probably get a sponsor for this series to pony up and give the top four finishers a bonus in addition to the spot they earned in the following years majors.
Mr Roddick & co. Mens tennis gets way more viewers / interest so I would expect at least equal attention to the mens game in your podcasts. Womens tennis I can't be bothered with (and for most it is the same). This is a pattern in almost all videos, for example draw discussions where the mens comes after and is done rather sloppily. This is just a viewers feedback but I'll skip the parts discussing the women's game.
Just like we experienced last year with the actors and the writer strike and the screen actors guild strike. There needs to be a players union, because the problem is you have anybody out of the top 100 they need those tournaments they may enter 21 tournaments a year and they barely get by. Carlos Alcaraz played more tennis from May through September then I've ever seen from another human being he just got done Davis cop singles and doubles. No he won two Grand slams and went to the Olympics and play the US Open he has a right to be tired but the guy who lost first round and then skipped a tournament because of injury wink wink He's going to have a very different view of it. They need to have the successful players put a fund so everybody can strike and they can limit the amount of tournaments they play and that fund can support the lower ranked players like the screen actors guild is until there is a collective bargaining agreement that you don't have to play until your half dead. Novak and Carlos wanted to win a gold medal and it cost them the US Open and it shouldn't be that way. No offense to Taylor Fritz but he's not a champion and he never will be we deserved a better match.
While I understand where you're coming from, I think people consider Sabalenka to be more complete as she has made the SF or better in every major in 2023. 2 wins and a QF in 2024. Iga's has all slam QFs but more people see her losses on grass and faster hard courts as the counterbalance to her game being highly conditioned for clay.
@@andieoliviaIt's not that Sabalenka has reached the semifinals of all surfaces it's a matter of time she wins Wimbledon and comes for the french so it's not hate it's facts

I know she is mother of three but damn it, she would be a great great great coach, even for atp.
Raducanu lost to Kenin higher ranked and slam winner also. Not a huge surprise with having 3 weeks off
Mike the producer reminds me of Peter griffin 😂
The issue with Sabalenca is that the “ play to your strengths…” might make her a one dimensional player- those players do not win grand slams in all surfaces. Others will exploit her weaknesses. Think like, Wawrinka, Isner, Muguruza, etc.
and the worthless coverage of espn didn't show the coin toss but they will spend 10 mins talking to celebrities while a match is going on
Mary Carrillo is the worst. Actually no Pam Shriver is the worst but Mary is a close 2nd
@@StewNWT Thats surprising with John McEnroe around. ESPN needs to replace John with Jim Courier.
@@michaeladkins6 John talks about himself a lot but he’s still not bad.
No one compares with Chris Fowler. He’s the best
@@michaeladkins6that is an asinine take. Courier is not in the same ballpark as McEnroe. Stop commenting, you have ridiculous opinions.
@@StewNWTno sir, you’re the worst.
Rafa was the best at playing his best on every point.
Where is Jen Brady?
actually swiatek been better outside hardcourt slams compared to Sabs the last 3 years.
I agree but slams matter most. Iga needs to collect herself in matches
Nothing against Coco Gauff, she's a great player, but Iga and Sabalenka aren't much older than her, and don't look like dropping off, then who knows who the next generation of players are. At present she doesn't look like she can surpass them and become the dominant player people thought she would become when she came on the scene so young.
the biggest difference between them was the backhand.
I do take notice that Sabelenka did not likely treat her ex well. Possibly leaving him and had another beau already. No man would come to Miami to watch her play (he was a well known Soccer coach and league leader) then jump to his death. Her rxn? She was practicing hours later being videoed. Why is no one delving into this
His ex wife said he was a drunk and probably just fell off the balcony. That’s just what I read at the time. I have no inside knowledge.

Better comp for Sabalenka style wise would actually be Mary Pierce, not Serena.
Why
Did you ever watch Pierce? She was the OG of "big babe tennis". Tall and long and was going to hit every ball as hard as she could. The style similarity and footwork/movement (neither are great movers) jumps off the page. Serena was a much bigger frame and really fast for the first decade of her career. Her strokes are quite different as well and she was a very good transition player. They were all power players but Serena was kind of unique.
What's the point of having a guest on if you're going to interrupt them?
It's what he does. I'm here for a 2 minute segment
There always seems to be time for exhibitions though.
Rybakina's coach was banned? First time I hear of this 😮
Yes....and this is strange, right ?
Congrats to Sabalenka and Sinner. But I find Sabalenka annoying with her loud grunts.
yeah extremely annoying
@@vaddok91 yes true, she was also helped by the fans vs Siegemund
@@al1976-v7mI agree with you. I don't care what Andy says. She has one plan only with an occasional drop shot. Dies she even know how to hit body serve?
Coco needs to switch to Pickel ball.
Kim was so hot in the esrly 2000s and a beatiful person as well
"The good folks of Chase". Really??!!
I'd like to see some sort of qualifying tournament from players ranked 150 plus where the winner(s) would automatically qualify for all of the next years majors.
p.s. - Cursing Andy is the best Andy.
Junky Sinner is the best!!! 💉💪
This is just a viewers feedback but I'll skip the parts discussing the women's game.
i skip men parts

She didn't want to doll up
Iga has 5 slams on TWO surfaces. Sabalenka has 3 on ONE. I can't hear anobody saying Sabalenka is only good on one surface. Annoying.
Saba is actually exceptional on grass she just hasn’t been able to play there due to injury and the ban on Belarusians.
People just don’t like Iga. That’s all I can chalk it up to really. A lot of people cannot stand her.
@@andieoliviaIt's not that Sabalenka has reached the semifinals of all surfaces it's a matter of time she wins Wimbledon and comes for the french so it's not hate it's facts
With her improved variety & net game i'm pretty sure Sabalenka can win Roland Garros if the conditions suit her (dry, hot weather)
