I truly want to thank you for this video! For decades I have been trying to remember the name of this show. I finally found it! I watched this as a small kid and never forgot the flying robot that digitized people! Fantastic :)
@John Doe There was only one season, as the second season was canceled. And yes, Jennifer or "Pilot" (a nickname that I never could get into) was cute, as well as believably tough and competent. Such an empathetic character, too. Her heroic death hit hard.
ThePublicDominion Yes. When met him some years back he said he still gets asked occasionally about the show - most often where was New Eden located - he said they unfortunately never got that far in development but that it was most likely a hidden enclave of high tech humans secreted away from Dredd/Overmind's detection in Antarctica
Genghis Pecan -- My head-canon is that New Eden is part of Mentor the same way digitized humans are a part of Overmind. It's just a nicer simulation and not "cold storage".
I had every single episode on VHS, watched it over and over again, I was totally obsessed 😁 Me and my cousin even drew some Captain Power comics. Damn, If I could return to those times....
If You had the toy gun made for this show, You were able to shoot at enemies and they could shoot You back as well. This show was way ahead of it's Time.
No, you guys need to update yourselves on this. This is a very common misconception. The Borg were not inspired by Lord Dredd. He was indeed reminiscent of them, but this has been fact checked to death at this point (2021). It's simply a fan theory and not actually an evidence based fact. After jumping off from the original insect style they were going for with the Borg they actually drew real inspiration from things like H.R. Giger and various DC Comic books as well as common cyborg tropes of the time like Terminator. I know many people would love if it were true, an obscure show like this had that much of an impact, but I'm afraid it really has always just been a rumor spread.
I watched this in kindergarden in 1996'ish. It aired 6:50 AM. I was 3 years old and it is one of my earliest memories. I always thought it was called something like Captain Jack. Maybe it even was in our language. So stoked that I was able to find it.
Loved this show as a kid. I always got creeped out by Soaron - that metal pterodactyl. Ridley from Metroid always reminded me of him. Especially after he became Meta Ridley in the Prime series, or Mecha Ridley from Zero Mission. Just me?
When CGI was in its infancy but made you look at it in awe because of the 'advanced graphics and computer generated characters' Netflix!, resurrect this one! (and the Galaxy rangers -no, no the movie but the cartoon show -)
Remember this series, was one my favorite as a kid, had many mixes from starwars (soron was like Darth vader) , terminator( sorons computer was like skynet building robots)
I don't see any mention of the toys, which were interactive with the show. You could shoot enemies, score, and take hits. It was gimmicky but cool the first couple of times anyway.
"Captain Power, & The Soldiers of The Future!" I was in my 'mid twenties', when this show started its only season on WGN-TV, at 9:00 on Sunday Mornings, in Chicago. I watched every episode. I tried to 'buy' the related merchandise, for the series. But Toys 'R' US, seriously "SCREWED the POOCH", with their distribution of merchandise for the toy line.
I feel this series had a genuinely good premise - essentially being _Terminator_ meets _Blake's 7_ - but it was let down by the dissonance between the Mattel execs and the writing staff over what it was supposed to be, resulting in a series that was too dark and intense for children yet too childish for adults.
@@mcclada Don't forget his character Thorgrim in _Conan the Barbarian_ . The puzzled expression he made after he knocked some giant stone column (or something like that) down with one mighty blow of his hammer is comedy gold! Didn't know his own strength.😂
Looked amazing to a kid back then. Now to me as an adult, it looks so cheesy, especially the effects. Clearly a low budget series, but good enough to inspire kids. I still find the pilot girl cute, and was so sad when she got killed.
It cost around a million dollars per episode! Definitely not cheap! Keep in mind this was top of the line cgi back then, it was expensive even if it didn't look very real. I was in my teens when I watched it and even then it looked too fake for me to suspend disbelief, but it was graphically ahead of its competition.
Yes, they played that intro at the beginning of every single episode; and no, it didn't get old.
agree
POWER ON! Still awesome after 3 decades...way ahead of its time in all aspects.
Frikin great acting, great casting, great writing, highly original style, excellent effects and it came out of nowhere.
It sure is a fun series.

One of the best memories of my youth!
Dear Hollywood,
Since you're already mining the past for properties to bring back to TV or make into movies, please make this be one of them.
Sincerely,
Every kid from the 80s
The creators and owners of the property are already doing just that.
Yea I hope someone do it
@@Kenshiro3rd seriously i mean 2 years in the future and we still got nothing
So, you want Hollywood to FUBAR yet another great show from the past?

The way Lord Dread is tapping his hand when his robo-chair rotates, makes it look like he's listening to some smokin' jazz on his headset.
I loved this Canadian show. It was so ahead of its time !
Well, it was an American show that was made in Canada (like the first five seasons of _The X-Files_ ), so it's kind of both.
Not a damn Canadian show
@@anthony7777 It was made In Canada & 2 of the main actors are Canadian. Do your research 🧐.

Of one of my first time seeing 3d CG. I remember being awed back then.
I saw a few episodes of this on VHS when I was a kid. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Me too.
It was.
Still is....
Frikin amazing
I remember playing their VHS game, which used a Zapper gun like the one that you would use for Duck Hunt on the NES
This TV show was a better "Terminator: Salvation" then "Terminator: Salvation." That, and the fly girl had awesome chest armor.
I truly want to thank you for this video! For decades I have been trying to remember the name of this show. I finally found it! I watched this as a small kid and never forgot the flying robot that digitized people! Fantastic :)
Oh wow...after 3 decades I saw the intro again...Thanks for keeping it alive, now I know the name of this series. Happy 😊
What a wonderful memories I have after watching this.
I would have to agree with you, because This was AWESOME, It's Like Power Rangers Meets Robocop.
@John Doe There was only one season, as the second season was canceled. And yes, Jennifer or "Pilot" (a nickname that I never could get into) was cute, as well as believably tough and competent. Such an empathetic character, too. Her heroic death hit hard.
Needs a remake! Definitely one of my favorite when i was a kid
Fun fact: one of the writers for this show was a fellow named J. Michael Straczynski. You may have heard of him. ;)

Just FYI Lord Dread's costume was the inspiration for the Borg Costumes in Star Trek.

The best 80's sci-fi for kids. They aired in the Philippines on GMA 7. Then ABC 5 in 1995 now TV5.Then on RPN 9 in 1996
This really wasn't for kids. The toys and TV ads obviously targeted kids, but this show was every bit as mature as anything on primetime at the time.
