Exactly there are a lot of sugar in ice frappucinos, fruit juices, flavoured yogurt (try eating plain yogurt to see the difference), ice-creams, soft drinks or condensed milk drinks as well. Sugar doesn't just come bubble tea alone.

So, I used to work next door to a boba tea shop in a mall. I love boba tea. I got it at least once, sometimes twice a day. usually it was an iced black tea, non-dairy creamer, no sweetner, honey popping boba (and coffee jelly if I was feeling fancy). They eventually started making the tea when they saw me in line. And eventually we became friends and they stopped charging me altogether. (Love my boba tea friends you are the real MVPs) I lost 20lbs because I wasn't eating garbage and filling up on tea. If you are get 100% sweetener, it's not really a surprise; you're gonna have a bad time

bubble milk tea is basically dessert in a cup. its caloric value is anywhere between 200 and 300 calories depending on type and size. it's equivalent to consuming 2-3 scoops of ice cream daily. I personally don't get milk tea with boba every day - maybe once or twice a week. So I'm sure I'll/we'll be alright. And let's be honest those who do love boba milk tea don't actually have it every day...unless of course, you are crazy and have given up on life.

I love BBT; it's food for the soul. But I always order 0% sugar if I am adding toppings, since most pearls are cooked with sugar and subsequently soaked in sugar water, so 0% sugar brewed tea with toppings is already mildly sweet. Tips for ordering a healthier BBT: 1. Plain brewed teas have the least calories, compared to flavoured teas, macchiatos and milk teas (with the same sugar level, toppings added). 2. Choose 0% or 25% sugar level (lesser sugar added, lesser calorie). 3. Choose FRESH Milk Tea over Milk Tea (milk teas are, in general, made with creamer - artificial + unhealthy). 4. Avoid drinking macchiato (the foam cap is basically whipped cream - fattening) 5. Ask for less toppings (pearls are carbohydrates; the lesser you consume, the lower your calorie intake). 5. Choose healthier toppings like Konjac Jelly over Tapioca Pearls (Konjac Jelly at least have fibre, which can help you to feel full). 6. Opt for flavoured BBT made using FRESH fruit juice instead of those made using flavoured syrup (because it's artificial). P.S. I still LOVE my BBT. 😍

    • @Darkwratheon
      @Darkwratheon 3 роки тому +3

To be honest unless you're ordering a more traditional tea such as Jasmine, Assam, Oolong, Earl Grey, Ginseng and others like that (with Camellia sinensis) then what you're drinking isn't really tea, it's just an artificially flavored powder with dairy-free creamer.
Source: worked at a bubble tea shop. Strawberry, Honeydew, Taro, and other milk teas were artificially flavored mix powders. Matcha really depends; I've been both the Matcha essence and the artificial stuff. But yeah, way to be safe is to avoid these more complicated ones. Sorry guys, Taro made from the actual root isn't even a thing in probably 99% of bubble tea shops.

i make my own boba at home and this is how i do it:
Thai tea as a base usually
maybe a serving of boba? could be more, could be less. After i finish cooking them i put about a tablespoon of brown sugar on them and mix it up to dissolve it.
Maybe 1/2 cup of reduced fat milk?
Around a tablespoon of some kind of sweetener if i want it sweeter
Idk if this is more or less healthy from buying it at a shop, but idk. my parent’s coffee has more sugar and calories than my boba, that’s for sure.

I don’t sleep as good when drink it I’m tired more I also noticed I have to workout a lot more cardio to keep figure I want but pants still too tight. Wen I stopped a few days plus workout my figured went back to normal. If you want to stop and are addicted get it get it 50 percent-sugar then 25 percent sugar to get off it. It’s addicting. Then try to stop! I can’t see it being any better than Starbucks either … so atleast you can ask 25 percent sugar i I “think “ it’s less chemical than Starbucks. Some places make Thai tea and with 25 percent sugar it’s still good. You can get no sugar too Also there is truvia or take real honey with you too add to it yourself, Atleast your body knows how to digest honey and you get that feeling of driving and sipping something cold and good. ❤

This is an interesting video but were you only drinking boba as your full diet for a month? No fruits or veggies, just boba? Because I don't think you can count living off just boba or living off just coffee as healthy. I think even coffee would make you lethargic if your only living off of it because your not getting all the vitamins your body needs. Although now I would like to see a video on a person living off coffee because you were doing a comparison. I'm genuinely curious and think that would make an awesome follow up video. Thanks for inspiring my curiosity.

For someone that doesnt drink bbt at all to 3 times a week as a replacement for black coffee is a huge jump that is probably why his body reacted so much.

I always get no sugar and no milk. The rest is just cream and added sugar. All these are just junk like soda, not really tea anymore…

that's why I gave up drinking bubble tea. if i go out and have to order sth (cuz my friends are there too), I will always choose non sugar tea or non sugar juices. It just feel so right when you take a sip of sour juices or bitter tea. it's been around 3 years till now

No reduced sugar?? Crazy~ I order mine 25% and think those are too sweet. Tapioca pearls are coated with too much sugar these days. Traditionally they were not.

You guys know it’s the sugar that’s killing you not the drink itself so have it 30% sweet. It’s kinda a choice if you want it sweetened.

This is probably due to the sugar content in the drinks rather than the boba itself

I don’t know about Singaporeans but a lot of Taiwanese people don’t order their bubble drinks with full sugar so it’s not as relevant to those that don’t drink full sugar. Most people order 50% or less sugar actually.

I wonder how the health diagnosis would change if he repeated the experiment but with only pure or fruit tea, and varying the toppings between either pearls or osmanthus jelly. I'm asking as a lactose intolerant, cow milk allergic, only fruit bubble tea drinker.
