Congratulations! A house is like a romantic relationship - when you know, you know, it's just as cliche as they say! I too, never thought I would be able to buy a home. We closed on our home august 3, 2021. Be kind to yourselves making the house your home. Renovations and decorations take time, sometimes years. Sometimes what you want on day 1 doesn't fit your vision anymore on day 50. Take it slow and enjoy it! Happy for you!
We missed out on a couple homes we really liked before we saw this one, and I was SO disappointed. My parents kept telling us we would just know when the right house came along, and I didn't believe them... but they were so right! I'm trying to remember that even though I'm so excited to make our home beautiful and cozy 😂 Thank you so much and congrats on your own home! It's such a cool feeling ❤

So excited for you! Welcome to homeownership! It's a love/hate relationship, to be sure! Tip: keep a little bag of all of your chosen finishes and colors in your car. A sample of wall color, flooring, fabrics, carpets, countertops... anything you can get your hands on. Then grab the bag when you're shopping. It makes things sooooo much easier when you're out looking for something just right for your space! And if you're extra extra (like me.. and I know you are! ha) keep a floor plan sketch with you as well so you have wall measurements at-the-ready when shopping for furniture! And most of all - HAVE FUN!

My husband and I also like darker jewel toned colours so I feel our styles are similar - those dark oak floors are a definite yes! - although I do prefer cooler greens your paint choices are making me reconsider haha. Would love to see organization content, from basically all areas. I also think a compilation of the cats exploring new changes would be so cute
Haha yeah I love a SUPER warm green but I just can't help it! My sister came to stay and is typically into cooler greens/teals but fell in love with the paint colours by the time she left. It truly feels like living in a hobbit hole, and I love it 😂 Oh my gosh I have so many videos of the cats my phone ran out of space lol I need to share more of those over in the discord!

Congratulations! I bought my house at about the same age and agree... I was so DONE with white walls. Mine are all color except the main bathroom, which is an oyster white so I can change out the look with just the shower curtain and towels. Have a wonderful time making it your own and always have a few thousand tucked away for emergencies like a cracked sewer line, furnace repair, or [insert unplanned home repair here]. Best of luck!
I love the idea of home content!! I will say, I know some creators have had issues with doxxing. Showing the outside of the house, etc is not recommended! Sadly, some people in this world won’t be watching to see your beautiful decor and journey of making your house a home. I don’t want to scare you, but try to avoid showing the outside of your home, or through your windows. Non-distinguishable features should be fine, and you know best regarding online presence, but if you’re making a series on this I hope you keep that in mind. Safety is sooo important, and we will love the videos even if they are adjusted for safety (blurring the view from windows, etc). I’m excited to see what you do with your home, and what decor options you choose!! Edit bc I was excited to see the stairs and I just reached that point in the video (they look SO GOOD) lol

One question: how do you heat your house? I have not seen radiators, and since the house is so old I would also not think that it has underfloor heating?

I just spent 6 months looking for my first home, too... but it took putting in 14 offers to finally get one accepted. I'm so happy for you that you not only got the house you wanted, but were able to bid what I assume was under-asking in order to get a counter offer. Amazing in 2022 with the way the housing market has been!!!! I can't wait to go on this adventure with you while I'm living it myself. 🥰🥰

My husband and I bought our first house too we were in Kitchener for quite along time and moved into my parents until we found one in our area (Muskoka) which if you know anything about this area its really hard to find anything reasonably priced! and do you find you had renters fear, putting whole in the walls etc. than realize hey this is my space I own it and the emotion gets you all over again? but anyways , Again I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU BOTH !!
I chuckled, I live in Alberta and a reason a lot of homes don't have air conditioning is hot, hot weather only lasts a few weeks in summer. Although, having air conditioner during a heat wave is certainly nice. Congrats on your new home!!

I know the feeling of finding YOUR house. My husband and I did. The one we thought we wanted and put an offer on fell through. The next week we found the house we are in now. A tree had fallen over the driveway and it hadn’t been shown in months. We just knew and put an offer in. The next day it was accepted. The funny part was the original house we thought we wanted called an hour after our offer was accepted. Haha, nope. We found our Home. I’d love to see your making your home into your space. Welcome to home ownership. We bought our house 4 years ago and are still reworking it to suit ourselves. Still have to deal with the horrid "Walmart blue" with glow-in-the-dark wallpaper border that has been a horrid thing to remove. It's a never ending cycle of ohhh shiny, so to speak.
I love what you are doing! I'm hoping to put down dark oak floors myself. I painted our library (aka family room) a rich dark green - my husband was aghast until it was finished, now he loves it!

Welcome to the next chapter of your lives! Hehehe, that moment you're talking about you and your husband being in the house and *knowing* is a feeling that doesn't come often. Me and my husband had the same experience with our place. We put in an offer at like 8pm at night we were so excited. It's a bit of a roller coaster getting settled into your first home that is *yours*. Take your time getting used to the place. Don't rush yourselves. It can take a few years to figure out how everything feels best, going through that myself still. Congrats again. 🍻

I am so excited for you. I moved in a new appartment a few months ago, and I am literally the same. I feel so comfortable and at home here that my productivity and how I feel is so much better now. One question: how do you heat your house? I have not seen radiators, and since the house is so old I would also not think that it has underfloor heating?

I just spent 6 months looking for my first home, too... but it took putting in 14 offers to finally get one accepted. I'm so happy for you that you not only got the house you wanted, but were able to bid what I assume was under-asking in order to get a counter offer. Amazing in 2022 with the way the housing market has been!!!! I can't wait to go on this adventure with you while I'm living it myself. 🥰🥰
Yes we were very lucky to be in a market that wasn’t nearly as competitive and to be the first offer on our home! I’m so glad you got an offer accepted. I hope you love your first home as much as we love ours ❤️

omg I'm so happy for you guys !!! My husband and I bought our first house too we were in Kitchener for quite along time and moved into my parents until we found one in our area (Muskoka) which if you know anything about this area its really hard to find anything reasonably priced! and do you find you had renters fear, putting whole in the walls etc. than realize hey this is my space I own it and the emotion gets you all over again? but anyways , Again I AM SO HAPPY FOR YOU BOTH !!

I chuckled, I live in Alberta and a reason a lot of homes don't have air conditioning is hot, hot weather only lasts a few weeks in summer. Although, having air conditioner during a heat wave is certainly nice. Congrats on your new home!!
Haha maybe I’m a wimp but I find I need to turn it on most days in the summer of only for an hour or two before bed so our bedroom isn’t sweltering!

I'm currently in ON for grad school, but I'm originally from Saskatoon. Most of my friends and family are still in my hometown and my husband and I plan to move back there once I am done my PhD! I know the feeling of finding YOUR house. My husband and I did. The one we thought we wanted and put an offer on fell through. The next week we found the house we are in now. A tree had fallen over the driveway and it hadn’t been shown in months. We just knew and put an offer in. The next day it was accepted. The funny part was the original house we thought we wanted called an hour after our offer was accepted. Haha, nope. We found our Home.

Welcome to home ownership. We bought our house 4 years ago and are still reworking it to suit ourselves. Still have to deal with the horrid "Walmart blue" with glow-in-the-dark wallpaper border that has been a horrid thing to remove. It's a never ending cycle of ohhh shiny, so to speak.
Haha it’s always fun trying to figure out what the past owner was thinking 😅 we’ve had many of those moments already!
I love what you are doing! I'm hoping to put down dark oak floors myself. I painted our library (aka family room) a rich dark green - my husband was aghast until it was finished, now he loves it!
Haha he just needed time to appreciate the vision! I’m lucky my husband was super on board, he actually chose a darker green than I’d originally picked for our bedroom ❤️

Hehehe, that moment you're talking about you and your husband being in the house and *knowing* is a feeling that doesn't come often. Me and my husband had the same experience with our place. We put in an offer at like 8pm at night we were so excited.
It's a bit of a roller coaster getting settled into your first home that is *yours*.
Take your time getting used to the place. Don't rush yourselves. It can take a few years to figure out how everything feels best, going through that myself still.
