5:30 - I’ve just watched MacKinnon’s locker room interview after the Bruins game and when he was asked about it, he looked totally gutted. Think him & Mikko were really good mates off the ice too so to Nate, it’s almost like he lost his best mate not just a top player on the team
@@redshift0000you can still be surprised after talking about something.. lots of people are all talk, that's why it's surprising when it actually happens
Heartbroken over the loss of Moose, but, like you, I understand and would rather get a good (maybe great as he develops) return than just let him walk later for a big payday. I've advocated trading Mikko for Igor when the goalie situation was still up in the air (prior to the beautiful Woods solution). That said... If this is it, they’ve decided this is a lost season and it’s a long play for next year. I don’t (and don’t want to) believe this. I think this is part of a strategy (like paying Blackwood and Taser) to broaden and deepen the talent pool around Nate Dogg and Makar. I hope this is part of a bigger second act, maybe JT Miller (for Miles Wood & Manson?). But whatever part 2 is better not involve Richie being shipped... he's a big part of being able to extend our window.

Necas is an offensive talent, and the Avs won’t ask him to play defense like Rod did. It should work out unless Necas wants a payday after next season.
The Avs gamble, was to upgrade goal wile downgrading offence. Canes sure got the better end of the deal, the East is wide open where as the West maybe a harder road. Avs ran it twice with elite offence and avg goaltending, but it was teams with solid depth that gave them early exit. I think management feels running it back wasn't going to be good enough with teams in the West. Calle is probably the biggest factor, he's contract is coming up soon and is going to get paid and with $14m Miko contract with probably a NTC it will be hard to keep Calle and build a solid team around him and MacKinnon with Miko's contract. Necas is no MIko, but he is also not looking for $14m. If Necas doesn't workout, the Avs got a lot of moveable contracts in the books for the coming years.
First of all, Avs is not a strong cup contender this yr even with Rantanen. More like same outcome the past 2yrs with early playoffs exit. They improved the goalie situation but of course it come with a cost. They still need to improve their depth which they will not be able to do so if they will resign Rantanen with big a contract.
This deal helps with depth by adding Drury and also gives them more cap space to acquire someone else, keep an eye on this team I don’t think they are done moving yet
Both teams took an L in their first match after the trade. Will be interesting to see where this goes, not that a whole team is hanging on ONE player or TWO. Necas looked pretty fitting into the line-up, he's fast and guess the chemistry could start to develop. Rantanen got some really good shots in, good boardbattles, but sadly no goals.
Canes are going all out this year for the cup!!! I doubt they will be able to resign Rantanen with the team they have now. Av’s made a smart decision and I’m happy with it. Chicago is just dumping Halls contract and hopefully they will get some one decent in the draft
Canes will actually have plenty of space to resign him, and have done a great job signing their best players to relatively team friendly deals, I would expect him to stay if he likes the city and team

If we use the cap space,& picks to make another move THIS YEAR-it could work out.But if we do nothing else of signifigance-its a bad move. We just gave up a top 10-15 player,& proven future HOFer for a younger, cheaper,& far less proven-top 30ish type dude. Drury will help the bottom 6-but marginally. 2nd round pick helps, but 4th rounder is virtually nothing-almost no chance a 4th rounder ever plays a game in the NHL. We gotta get Nichuskin back healthy-or we aren't a true contender with or without Mico. But this all comes down to if we do something else quasi significant before the deadline. If not-then this is a bad decision,& just greatly lowers our chances to win in the playoffs. Hell-theres no guarantee we even make the playoffs now. I work at Ball arena & essentially for the AVS,& Nuggets(though im a total peon). So I will trust that the organization does something else. Cap space,& picks will help-but only if we do something else quasi significant. Maybe we can now get the Pens to send Sid here-then I love this deal,& we'd be better-lol.(I'm not holding my breath on that). Or if we go get JT Miller-then let's FING go! But I don't want soft, underachieving Peterson. And now we don't have much of natural goal scorers as we sit here today. And we definitely are worse right now-but we will see. Rantanen definitely has his faults,& has too many games in the regular season where he doesn't show full effort. But he's a proven playoff performer,50 goal,& 100+ pt guy-& those don't grow on trees. And a lot of those games he drives you crazy with his lackadaisical play-you look up,& he still has 3 pts. Cuz he's just that talented. So we will see-if the AVS do something else it could make sense. But if not-our Cup chances are low,& the chances of blowing the playoffs entirely have gone up significantly-though that's still unlikely. And not just Nate,& Cale but how's this affect the other Finns-especially Lehkonen. He scored our only goal today but I'm sure he has to be a bit pissed right now also. But this is why I hate the NHLs hard cap. Kadri never wanted to leave but had to,& Mico clearly had no clue this was coming. Nobody did-not the players,& not anybody I've talked to at the arena-(or my bosses talked to)who might have had some idea it was possible. But everybody is shocked,& kinda blindsided,& very nervous about what comes next if anything.
Canes should sign Mikko Rantanen. Rantanen and Aho for the Finnish connection. Canes should trade Andrei Svechnikov to the Penguins for Rutger McGroarty and a 2nd round pick. Pens fan.
I thought Avs did pretty good for what they have to work with. Should have seen it coming but we didn’t. Lost in all this anger and doom from the Avs camp is the simple fact everyone loves Mikko. He is beloved here and on the team. Take away that and this was actually a good move
@jimmyhockey valid, but there you can't shake with no bake so we will see if he's elite without Mac. My assumption is he's not either way I don't mind the trade. It's each players right to chase the money we have no business judging them. But as a person who manages people if they don't want to be there let them go and find people who do.
No doubt Rantanen was a core player in Colorado. They have some work to do to replace that void Rantanen leave behind. On the other hand Hurricanes really need this to take next step in hope to win the cup someday. Landeskog is a mystery right now. Is he able to come back and play at same level he used to before injury? Avalanche presumably count on that. Interesting to see how Rantanen and Necas plays in their new teams. We just have to give them few games.
Canes are a contender for sure, but if Rantanen rejected 90M offer from the Av's, he wont be agreeing to anything less than 15M per even from the Canes. Either he goes back to Av's for 12M or signs for near max cap.
Horrible trade. Avs are not a rebuilding team. Avs don't have time to wait for Necas to become whatever he will be. They need to win now. Mackinnon and Makar aren't getting younger.
The cap continues to grow so expecting players to take less because other people who signed when the cap was lower is silly, players work hard and deserve their money so who are we to say what they should and shouldn’t earn
I look at this trade in two ways are the Avs a better team this year after the trade? No. Are the Avs a better team next year? Yes. Mikko was going to walk at the end of the year, could they have done a sign and trade or picked up a 3rd rounder trading him to a team prior to July 1st to work out a new contract possibly. They were never going to get a player like Necas and his contract for next season though. The elephant in the room is the Avs may be in an identical situation a year from now with Necas's contract expiring then what? If he isn't going to sign do you downgrade again. Trade is underwhelming in my opinion when you look at other trades. The Jets were able to trade a player like PLD that wasn't going to re-sign who is not in the same tier as Rantanen and get back a top line forward, a top nine forward and a bottom six forward. According to Eliot Friedman the Avs were willing to pay up to $11.75M AAV making him the highest paid winger in the NHL just ahead of Panarin. I guess you got to draw your line in the sand somewhere both from the Av's perspective and from Rantanen's
trading a 100 pt. scorer for a 65 pt. scorer-good. Giving ufa to be 100 pt. scorer $14 mil. per-not good. Canes can't score in playoffs and needed a big scorer/rental.

Rantanen is shitty wingman player, top 50 player, awful defensively, slow, bad goal scorer, cannot pass, tackle and also not even quarter of skill of Necas. So its a good trade for avs.
Not necessarily, they could still be in play to get a big name at the deadline and make a push for the cup. Also Necas has 16G 39A this year it’s not like they got nothing in return
There are soooo many Avs “fans” that are turning into doomers. They are saying all the players should ask to be traded now, calling for everyone to be fired, and openly hoping the team tanks now.
@@dopeboygangsta look at ANY video on this trade, a bunch of crybaby avs fans angry and upset and not looking at the reality that is the Toronto Maple Queefs: Put all your money into 3 players with no money to build around them. The avs werent about to do that.

All avs fans are going to hate the trade. It was a great player who was with the team his whole career. The return was not good enough. Trading him seems to be the right call, but you can't avoid questioning the return when the deadline is still weeks out
Rantanen might have killed his career. Now he doesn't get to play with MacKinnon or Makar. He's going to drop. No longer 100 points. Maybe 70-80 at max
@ look at the money puck odds. The effect of the salary cap has fans looking at elite players at the top salary scale but never the bad players that are making good money. Paying Mikko wouldn’t have hurt the Avs. What hurts them is Casey Skittelmark being absolutely rotten at 6M a year, Nuke disappearing at 6M a year, Manson alternating between helpful and terrible at 4.5M a year, not making a decision on Gabe, and not committing to player health as other organizations have. Instead they traded one of the five best players they’ve had this century for a so so player. Guys don’t break out at 26. Statistically a forward has already had their best years by that age. Necas’ game is based on speed and athleticism, whereas Mikko’s is based around skill and smarts. One ages better than the other! Colorado just slammed the window shut with a vengeance. I keep hearing “there’s more coming!” Ahh yes the siren song of the bad front office. Just wait, there’s more! Unless MacFarland doesn’t have another move by the end of the month he’s effectively wasted the rest of Cale and Nate’s career.
You don't let superstar future hall of famers walk over a 1.5M salary negotiation difference. The Avs offered 12.5 and Mikko wanted 14. It would be different if the two sides were way off on the dollar amount and it just couldn't work like what happened with Kadri. This is the worst trade in franchise history and it's not close. That being said, I will still continue to attend Avs games regularly and support the team but I think their cup window is hanging by a thread. They have cap money, but management hasn't been great at acquiring depth the last few years (Mittelstadt, Johansen, Tatar, Eller, etc) so I have little faith in their ability to use cap money to make the team better than if they had Mikko.
It’s not the worst trade by any means, yes losing Rantanen is tough but in return you received a player who in half a season has 16G and 39A and is two years younger with a lower cap hit, Rantanen was going to walk and the Avs wanted to make sure they got something in return and will have enough space for Makar when his deal is up in a few seasons
I think the Canes got the best of the deal considering Moose's production and Naces being still a somewhat unknown quantity...not to mention that crazy look in his eye. Then again, I'm glad about any development that potentially keeps MacKinnon on a losing team. I despise that asshole.

Screaming at his coach during a game, in front of all his teammates, the staff, the fans. Fucking disgraceful. What was it, in 2022 he cost the Avs game 6 in the playoffs against the Kraken, who eventually won the series. Completely disagree. Av’s realized they were not going to sign Rantanen so they made a trade rather than let him walk for nothing. Who know what will happen in the playoffs but the canes are a legit contender with this move
@@jimmyhockey Avs were legit contenders this year with Mikko. Now they are not. Canes are not legit contenders with those goaltenders. They need to go out and get Gibson.
I wouldn’t say that, Necas is having a great year and it’s largely because he was finally given the chance to show what he is capable of. No he is not as solidified at the moment when compared to moose but he is a cheaper superstar that could allow the Avalanche to build around Nate and Cale without being up against the cap
This is the same management that thought Casey Middlestadt would be a good 2nd line center. Just having extra cap money doesn't mean they can add good depth.

oddly enough i think he resigns with the avalanche , what a power move that would be
Why would the avalanche do this, I’m so pist
They couldn’t agree on a new contract
5:30 - I’ve just watched MacKinnon’s locker room interview after the Bruins game and when he was asked about it, he looked totally gutted. Think him & Mikko were really good mates off the ice too so to Nate, it’s almost like he lost his best mate not just a top player on the team
Nates comments post game today tells you everything you need to know about he feels. Utter heart wrenching disappointment.
It did seem like he was not aware of the trade which is not good if it’s true, can’t keep your star players out of big decisions
There’s no way Mack didn’t know about the trade. He obviously did. But it’ll always suck seeing your friend traded even when you know it’s coming.
@sammy8796 then why did he say he never thought in a million years they'd actually let him ago? He made it clear he was surprised.
@@redshift0000you can still be surprised after talking about something.. lots of people are all talk, that's why it's surprising when it actually happens
Sucks that the Avs are now a mediocre team. Just destroyed their own cup window
By becoming the fastest team?
Rod Brind'amour wasn't exactly thrilled to be traded to Carolina and look how that turned out.
Taylor hall is bad luck.. canes r getting eliminated in the 1st round
I don’t think so at all especially with him playing a smaller role for their team
Taylor hall has always played on basement teams, how is that bad luck?
@@JAYYVOO first game they lost.. he played for the bruins the best regular season team in NHL history and they got eliminated in the 1st round by a wild card panthers team. He joined Chicago and bedard had a horrible 2nd year so far(now he's gonna rip it up) oilers didn't make the playoffs once with him soon as they traded him they started making the playoffs.. he had a sick year in jersey but didn't do nothing past the 1st round.. the dude has so much bad luck he somehow got his face slashed in the pre game skate by his own player by slipping on a puck while his team mate stepped on his head.. im telling u dude is bad luck.....
Rantanen said he was willing to accept a home team discount..
Mikko sais he’s been blindsided by the trade and was ready to take a discount. Can’t believe it from Colorado.
Fake news
nope, from an interview by a Finnish newspaper
www.hs.fi/urheilu/art-2000010990207.html
I'm a big Avs fan and when I first heard about this I was mad but I trust Lord Sakic and his winning ways it will work!
Necas is an offensive talent, and the Avs won’t ask him to play defense like Rod did. It should work out unless Necas wants a payday after next season.
They will have him play defense, Colorado has always been great defensively, he will also need a payday in after next season I believe
GO AVS GO!
This deal helps with depth by adding Drury and also gives them more cap space to acquire someone else, keep an eye on this team I don’t think they are done moving yet
Thanks for making me feel slightly better 😢
I wonder which teams the Av's negotiated with, and which lead to the decision to trade him to Canes of all places.
Thanks for the forecast! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). How can I transfer them to Binance?
Not a bad take but there's 0 chance that Rantanen didn't know about the trade.
Avs also have landeskog coming back soon. I think that is the main reason they did this. Necas will most likely play 2C
Canes should sign Mikko Rantanen. Rantanen and Aho for the Finnish connection.
Canes should trade Andrei Svechnikov to the Penguins for Rutger McGroarty and a 2nd round pick.
Pens fan.
We’ve invested too much into svetch. Not for sale
I thought Avs did pretty good for what they have to work with. Should have seen it coming but we didn’t. Lost in all this anger and doom from the Avs camp is the simple fact everyone loves Mikko. He is beloved here and on the team. Take away that and this was actually a good move
Life time avs fan, we did whats best for us medium and long term. If the cap goes way up maybe we get 96 back in free agency. How would that look 🤔
That would be crazy but I think Rantanen was surprised by the move so I don’t know if he will come back
@jimmyhockey valid, but there you can't shake with no bake so we will see if he's elite without Mac.
Going back? 😂
Necas is only 2yrs younger so i dont see this trade as big of a win for Avs, now if the age diffence was bigger then i would see it as a win for Avs.
Horrible trade. Avs are not a rebuilding team.
Avs don't have time to wait for Necas to become whatever he will be.
They need to win now. Mackinnon and Makar aren't getting younger.
If Rantanen isn’t happy with anything below MacKinnon 12.6 mil then that’s his loss
fr. feels like he's just being greedy.
The cap continues to grow so expecting players to take less because other people who signed when the cap was lower is silly, players work hard and deserve their money so who are we to say what they should and shouldn’t earn
Avs need to add another piece whether landy or not before you can say they are cup contenders.
True, Landy coming back would help them a lot, This move does give them some more room to bring in another player
Necas is a very good player; it's not a lopsided trade.
I think people just havnt seen him play much in Colorado so they are skeptical
Typical hyperbolic comment “this trade changes the landscape of the NHL” all the nhl UA-camrs are like this. Its super annoying
People don't know how good Necas is if they think the Avalanche got robbed here.
Very true, Rantanen is a better player now but there is a lot of potential with Necas on this team
@@jimmyhockey Yeah, Avs now have the 2 fastest players in the league, and Hurricanes are now worse at center... which is the problem we needed to trade to fix. Makes no sense to me as a Canes fan
@@FalloutUrMumbruh like 3 players have more points in the last 5 seasons. You take that trade any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Our defense is only gonna be S tier for so long we need a cup NOW!!!!
6M for Taylor Hall.... noooo what a waste. Turn around and trade taylor hall and get some draft picks back lol
He looked okay on the svetch line
canes go all in with andersen / kotchetkov in goal, i don’t get it
Healthy Andersen is very good, but that will always be the biggest question for him can he stay healthy. Kochetkov has been pretty solid to so hopefully they can stay consistent and bring that same energy come playoff time
Canes have plenty of cap space. Barring him just not liking the org or the city we can match any offer, barring some ridiculousness.
Very true, will be a very good fit if he enjoys his time there this season
He has played with Sebastian Aho in junior championships and he should not have much difficulties in fitting into the locker room.
blackhawks won.
If the canes don't win a title this year, they lose.
if the avs don't win a cup in the next 3 years, they lose.
no one expects the hawks to win anything anytime soon.
Nate is not happy.
Just saw the interview he looked gutted
Rantanen is shitty wingman player, top 50 player, awful defensively, slow, bad goal scorer, cannot pass, tackle and also not even quarter of skill of Necas. So its a good trade for avs.
The trade says Avs are not focused on a cup this year
Not necessarily, they could still be in play to get a big name at the deadline and make a push for the cup. Also Necas has 16G 39A this year it’s not like they got nothing in return
It does, most likely.
There are soooo many Avs “fans” that are turning into doomers. They are saying all the players should ask to be traded now, calling for everyone to be fired, and openly hoping the team tanks now.
So "many" who the 9 on Twitter??
I don't think they'll tank but I don't think they'll win a cup with MacK again
@@dopeboygangsta look at ANY video on this trade, a bunch of crybaby avs fans angry and upset and not looking at the reality that is the Toronto Maple Queefs: Put all your money into 3 players with no money to build around them. The avs werent about to do that.
It’s a small percentage but understandable, Rantanen is a great player and since this is Necas breakout year they probably haven’t watched much of his game
It’s worse than you think.
Why do you say that?
Dude the way to end words with that woerd trail off is so feminine and annoying
Go rub one out and calm down, incel.
Enjoy those drop knee goal line clappers, Canes fans.
Can’t wait to watch Aho feed Moose one timers
Lol it's bad 😂
I think the Canes got the best of the deal considering Moose's production and Naces being still a somewhat unknown quantity...not to mention that crazy look in his eye. Then again, I'm glad about any development that potentially keeps MacKinnon on a losing team. I despise that asshole.
Whoa never heard of any hating Mac, as of now yes the canes won this trade but like I mentioned this could actually work out for Colorado
Why do you hate the Mac attack?
@@Mattias-17 Because he's a full-blown raging psychopath. I despise arrogant people, with no humility. Yes, he's an absolutely amazing player, but if I were a coach I wouldn't have him on an ice pond game, let alone the NHL. At least until he learned to control himself. Screaming at his coach during a game, in front of all his teammates, the staff, the fans. Fucking disgraceful. What was it, in 2022 he cost the Avs game 6 in the playoffs against the Kraken, who eventually won the series. You could probably say he cost Colorado the cup that year because he had to stop and scream at a ref for a bad call. And the call wasn't even unreasonable. Yeah, it's fair to say I despise arrogance in all its forms, but especially in something as meaningless as a fucking sport. Let him rage about people being denied basic human rights, or being homeless and starving, or any other of ten thousand serious issues, then I'll respect him.
@@jimmyhockey Yeah, I can't stand him. I wrote a response to another commenter explaining why.
Canes will lose in the playoffs this year and will not resign Mikko. Bad trade for both teams is the correct take.
Completely disagree. Av’s realized they were not going to sign Rantanen so they made a trade rather than let him walk for nothing. As for Rantanen resigning, the canes have a ton of cap space next season and their culture is amazing so the likelihood of Rantanen resigning is pretty highs. Who know what will happen in the playoffs but the canes are a legit contender with this move
@@jimmyhockey Avs were legit contenders this year with Mikko. Now they are not. Canes are not legit contenders with those goaltenders. They need to go out and get Gibson.

Yessir🙏🏻
It's a fantastic trade......for the Canes, but when it comes to us it's a pathetic trow-away-the-season trade.
I wouldn’t say that, Necas is having a great year and it’s largely because he was finally given the chance to show what he is capable of. No he is not as solidified at the moment when compared to moose but he is a cheaper superstar that could allow the Avalanche to build around Nate and Cale without being up against the cap
Avs are top heavy and need depth, i like the trade…there power play sux and that
was with rantanan..good trade👍🏽
It will definitely give them the ability to acquire more depth for this year and the next. That will then be when Necas needs a new deal
This is the same management that thought Casey Middlestadt would be a good 2nd line center. Just having extra cap money doesn't mean they can add good depth.
