There definitely were, but it wasn't expected to happen this soon. No one even had a thought of where he would possibly go, but just shows there are a lot of things going on behind the scenes that aren't being reported on.
Can someone PLEASE explain to me why on earth the Blackhawks would involve themselves in this deal? Basically gave away Taylor Hall, are taking on half of Rantanen's contract, all for a 3rd rounder... WHY???
Yeah they probably could’ve got more for sure, but they actually save something like 1.5 million and get a third. Like yes they lose Hall but he’s not an important piece for them and they are sellers. They have have more flexibility to make other moves now and take on bad contracts though. Like they pretty much got paid a 3rd round pick to save money. When you look at it like that it’s not so bad. Just that maybe they could’ve gotten more for hall, or maybe not include him in this trade at all honestly. I don’t think it’s a bad trade for them though.
@@Huskies2308lol what is "first dibs"? He'll play where he chooses, you make it sound like teams just get to pick players without the players say like free agency is a draft...

who the hell is a Canucks fan saying JT Miller and Pettersson are better? LOL. That's just plain idiocy. JT Miller is better in exactly zero categories, while Pettersson you could argue has a slight edge in defensive and offensive playmaking IQ, but is by no means a better player at all. Rantanen is far and away the second best RW in the league, second of course to Kucherov. The comparison I'd give is like Jari Kurri in his prime but better being traded for essentially a semi-unproven superstar (1 season of legitimate superstar calibre play) and a bottom six forward. It's crazy that this trade actually happened mid-season as well. I've watched every single trade simulation for the past 5 years lmao. Cheers!
@@psychedelicstrategotutoria9984 agreed! I think I would take Rantanen simply because he's a bigger body, less of an agitator and I find him a little more useful in the defensive end. They both have great shots and generally are great passers also. I think it's just a matter of who the linemates are!
Instead of cutting down Rantanen's salary, raising his trade value, you should probably just reduce some random person on the Canes' roster so you have that extra space. I love these trade sim videos you do and think that this could maybe make it more realistic! Keep up the quality work!
avs fans are freaking out about this but i love it. mikko was gonna walk and the avs were gonna get nothing for him. im excited to see how he does without nate and cale doing all the work for him and getting him the puck.

Rantanen has better numbers because he’s developed great chemistry with his teammates, creating strong synergy on the ice. In hockey, it’s not about one player being the hero - it’s about the team as a whole and how well the players work together. Just because someone has better stats doesn’t automatically make them the 'better' player - it could be a result of how they fit into the game and help each other out. It’s not as simple as labeling someone as good or bad - hockey is about the team, the chemistry between players, and how well they complement each other.
carolina wins this deal for now.......but if he's only a rental and they don't get a cup; I would change that. It sounds like the Avs were never going to pay Mikko more than Mac. Especially having to pay Makar after next year.
How is you line combos with avs have great chemistry??? Anytime im in franchise with the Avs and with Bednar, my chemistry is terrible????? And i have the same players.
Anytime a top player like Rantanen is moved, the team that acquires him is the definitive victor! 😱👀👀👀👏 Great job Canes! Necas back, 🤔🤔🤔🤔 we shall see how this works for Colorado. I still feel he's overrated and overhyped. Let's see how he handles playing with Nate the Mac 👊
I don't really understand this move from the Avalanches perspective. Yes, Mikko Rantanen is set to become a ufa and potentially walk, but isn't winning the Stanley Cup this year a top priority⁉️ Mikko Rantanen has been one of the best wingers in entire league for the past 5 years. Also, Mackinnon and him are arguably the best line duo in the league. And it's not like he doesn't play well in the playoffs, the guy is always over ppg each appearance in the playoffs!
Yeah, idk. I love this trade for the Avs. Mackinnon and Makar are the ones that anyone in their right mind would choose to pay. And I mean let's be real, Mikko is really good but why is everyone acting like Mackinnon hasn't enhanced his game to a level that Aho will not... Nobody knows where Rantanen’s head is at when it comes to re-signing. The Avalanche might’ve just gotten all of that for free if Rantanen decides not to re-sign with them at the end of the year.
Not really. Rantanen is in the last year of his contract and is an UFA after the season. Avs have to trade hime if they can't figure out an extension or Mikko walks free in the summer. Avs cannot afford that and every single team knows that. Right now Rantanen is only a rental and that is huge price to pay for rental. Of course if Canes can sign Rantanen long term (and there is a great possibility for that happening, Canes have 31M in cap space) situation changes dramatically. You will always lose straight value in these kind of trades when the big piece is coming an UFA
Hope you guys enjoyed the video! Who do YOU think won the trade??? 🤔

Canes by FAR.

it's not just that the Avs traded him, it's that they got so little for a top 10 elite player. This will go down as worse than the Thornton trade.
