This is more evolutionary than revolutionary. I believe it's their best chronograph so far. I'm sick and tired seeing all these VK64 with no running second flooding the market, and finally, a brand used the Miyota 6S21, the better alternative including a running second, and this should be credited.
Fantastic review, thank you. I ordered this before I watched and despite your reservations think it's another slam-dunk for Baltany. This will be my fourth from them. I am astounded by their standard. It's far more than we deserve for the money.
I actually like this so much more than their previous bicompax designs. The better movement and moving bezel give the ability to time in hours and minutes. Perspective I guess; you see it as an unnecessary new version, I see it as the first properly executed version from them.
Exactly same case, bezel, dial and hands, but with the Seagull movement and something like "chronograph" in the 6 position - that would make this watch even better.
I don’t think you can go wrong with a miyota movement and it looks a lot like a vintage Hanhart 417es. The price combined with the quality and the look makes it a bargain imo.
Not sure why you don't like it. It looks absolutely fantastic on the wrist. I agree with majority of the comments, it is a great design very well delivered. Thx for the vid!
I really wish Baltany would come up with a mechanical version of their beloved chronographs. Mecaquartz is nice and practical, but I have a lot of them in my collection already. I would love to see some mechanical versions though.
Thank you. Excellent review ! Affordable homages of vintage French Air Force chronos is a niche. Earlier in 2023 Breguet re issued its Type 20, as well as its Type XX - its civil counterpart. This Baltany T20 design is almost accurate to the original mil version. Although the Miyota 6S21 is ok, the Baltany could benefit from an ETA quartz G10212 which has a flyback function. Also, there is a "big-eye" subdial at 3 on the Merkur T20, so why not here ? Finally, this Baltany T20 could be improved with a signed crown and fluted pushers like on the T20 from San Martin, SN0127. Now, on Baltany's website I see you can oder it with a signed crown for 30$ more, and also have "TYPE 20" added in the empty space in the lower part of the dial (like on an Auricoste T20) if you wish. Yet, I might be tempted, because of Baltany's usually impeccable execution...
I just received the brown dial and, respectfully, I think you may be missing the point of this watch. There are many type 20 homages out there, but not many Hanhart homages. The distinction here is the dreamy, glossy dial and subs. At least with the brown, I am reminded of high quality chocolate, or perhaps dark, rich coffee. I feel this is unique enough to warrant the effort. It is very different and beautiful on wrist. Dressy and much less tool-ish than the typical Type 20.
I didn’t realize that someone else had noted the Hanhart homage when I posted a couple of minutes ago. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I do wish that red triangle was bigger on the bezel.
I have a vintage chrono with the Seiko VK64 and the cream dial. I use it almost as a dress watch, one of my favourite watches. This one I like to but, I agree that there is only so much you can do in terms of design and Baltany seem to have reached a point where they are only just tweeking old designs.
I almost skipped this assuming it was another Seiko mechaquartz without running seconds and with that dumb 24 hour dial. However, the Miyota movement solves this, no doubt it doesn't feel as nice to use as a vk, but it's a good trade for me. I also like the Hanhart style bezel with red marker, very useful.
Well, that's the problem when anything retro is brought back again and redesigned just like the Dodge Challenger, or the Volkswagen Beatles there's only so much you can do. You can only make subtle changes when it's already been tried. I prefer this design it actually looks more like a vintage watch then some of the other iterations.
I have no thoughts on this particular watch. But I love the slim rotating bezel. I've been searching for a Fortis new flieger homage but thought that nobody made slim bezel like that. This proved me wrong. Hope somebody does Fortis flieger homage fast.
In no way meant to be argumentative - I think the coin edge Timing Bezel/styling is unique and discreet as a timer and strong as a bezel aesthetic. The slim flat surface highlights the Box double dome sapphire. Everything may not be exactly harmonious but overall it is far away from a Frankenstein's monster :)
The brand overall just doesn't do it for me if I'm looking for a vintage chrono I go straight to Sugess or Merkur but that's just me Thanks for sharing as always my friend Be well and Stay Frosty 👍
I cant tell - is the dial glossy or enamelled like the brown version? I know i will get one of these (my Chinese watch collection is becoming a Baltany collection), but i cant decide between the black or brown.
So I am going to respectfully disagree, I actually think this was shrewd on their part. I think this is an homage to the Hanhart World War II pilot chronograph that was later worn by Steve McQueen. Anyone who has sat through a fair number of Urban Gentry videos will know that this is one of Tristano’s favorite watches and in fact, Hanhart did a limited edition TGV version of one of their reissues. I think it’s a fairly decent homage at a good price even if I don’t like the movement.
Yeah, so it doesn't do anything for me and doesn't signify anything to me, but after hearing someone else state what it's homaging, then I do see its significance so they haven't disappointed. That small triangle could have been bigger though imo
@@TheWatcherReviews yeah, that is probably what will keep me from pulling the trigger on this one. Otherwise, I really like it. I would probably go with that tropical dial and slap on a black distressed strap.

might buy this as my "chef's watch" because being able to time 2 different things simultaneously from the wrist when cooking is pretty useful
It looks like a Hanhart 417 to me. I wish they would start making some of these watches with the Sea-Gull mechanical chronograph movements.
Funny you mention the Hanhart .. I think making one of the pushers red would have at least improved the looks and made it stand out more.

The brown dial version looks awesome👍👍

I don't mind quartz, and this has better, more useful sub dials than the VK63... I'd buy this
You mean the VK64, the VK63 does have a sunning second subdial complication at 6 o'clock.

Wow man, great deapth of info!
They have made such a brilliant line, that at some point something would be "boring". I like it, another great piece.
ON my wishlist for next purchase ! Nice homage to Breguet Type 20 IMHO.

The knurling on the bezel looks different from a hanhart though
Yeah maybe the brown dial would have been better

They definitely have the vintage style look down. I really think they should slowly expand their line. Thanks for the great review.
Really like the look of this one. It's a pity they didn't use a mechaquartz movement.
I have this watch, fantastic, as accurate as my Breitling Chrono Colt.

Check out the Sugess 'Extra Special' Pilot homage. They have the ST19 movement in it.
Looks great and different enough to the others with somewhat similar dials

I really like the design, Breguet type 20 mixed with Hanhart PIONEER 417. I must say Baltany DOES impress, especially at those prices.
I love Baltany watches!
Thanks for the video. Baltany mostly = vintage. Cheers!!
Cool Steve McQueen Hanhart homage
With the red triangle I thought the bezel was a 120 click one
I have no thoughts on this particular watch. But I love the slim rotating bezel. I've been searching for a Fortis new flieger homage but thought that nobody made slim bezel like that. This proved me wrong. Hope somebody does Fortis flieger homage fast.
Lovely watch
Sorry to double post, but is this Miyota movement a bicompax movement or is there a subdial hidden at 6 o’clock?
I just looked and the 6S21 is bicompax, but there is probably a date under the dial. I don’t know if it had a ghost position or not.
@brianmccord7387 i couldn't feel it but then again on some quartz its very quiet

Its neither, its a matt dial, go for the brown dial
@@TheWatcherReviews good advice, thanks!

When it comes to watches I love boring.
Boring as an Explorer, submariner, mark XI, radiomir, calatrava, tank, reverso…
The Hanhart wannabe chrono (Baltany version). Cause there are chronos but there are Hanhart chronos, which are unique... some say.
I had to send thier much regailed chrono , misaligned hand service was poor had to pay shipping very slow to refund so no more baltany for me.
This model has "inspirations" from Hanhart Chrono's.
To me it's easy. I'm not in to this style of watch so Baltany has actually nothing to offer to me.
it just doesn't stand out in the plethora of watches in the market
Forget new designs, just give us proper mens 43mm sizes!!!!
Looks ok but that particular style has been done a lot already so it’s getting stale
Wash your hands shtskn
They're washed u div. Called calluses.
