- In one of the mentoring sessions, the participant had just lost his job and was literally in tears
He said " I loved my company - was so passionate about its growth, saw no weekends/holidays but was working relentlessly for the last 5 years for its growth."
I told him - "Why did you love your company more than yourself and your dear ones - its an artifical person- created by legal fiction. Its as good as the people at the top and when they change, you also have to face the music"
And wouldnt you also have dispassionately quit if you would have got a more lucrative job
So, there was absolutely no case for being emotionally disturbed - you lost the job, move on
And I often take cues from my exit interview in one of my earlier jobs
I emotionally told that I had solved all their legacy issues in Financial Modeling but still there was no recognition. Big Boss told "Look, you got paid for it -move on". The words changed my perspective a lot
I nowadays take a lot of cues from our maid - Hema - a 'happy go lucky' blue collared worker who realised long back that she is getting paid for the hard work - if she doesnt have the strength to do the work . the world will anyways not keep her. So she dispassionately executes her job, focusses on her health, family and vacation, and is very very happy
Seems its the white collared who undergo all the emotional upheaval because of the attachment
