How to replace the alternator on the 1.6HDi with minimal dissembling and without going underneath the car.
The Peugeot 508 1.6HDi MK1 engine bay has loads free space to work with, making it one of the easiest cars for me to work with.
Given the age and the high mileage of the vehicle, a re manufactured original Valeo alternator is used. The original alternator lasted just short of 200,000 miles.

Hi, there are many scenarios with battery running out very quickly. In this case when the alternator and battery are in good condition. One of the most common problem are aftermarket appliances, usually with a aftermarket radio using power even if its turned off. The next problem is probably issues with wiring/ earth connections and fuses or probably the GEM unit, you can test the fuses one by one to see if its draining any power. Another probable cause is the key in ignition and doors unlocked which is using up power, you can try doing the current leak test with the doors locked to see if its draining the battery.

This one is the smart charge alternator (2618013A) and it does not have a starter motor integrated into it.

this should be fine with the voltages with the engine running as the alternator is a smart charge, as long the battery is charging its ok.

if you have the correct tools and equipment it should take around 3-4 hours.
