I totally agree, this is my favorite of all of the Zombies catalog. It has a certain stately majesty and it is outrageously beautiful. Since it was recorded before the album they should’ve rushed out its release but of course they were ill managed. This could’ve should’ve would’ve been a top 10 record in the USA and UK if it had been properly released and promoted. Send sending this record to the DJs around the country would’ve created a big splash, I think.
Yeah but it should’ve been on the album too: it’s that great. The piano on this is amazing and the tune penned by who else but Chris White is genius, pure genius. Has an element of baroque pop, so stately, in a sense.
Not on the original album but it was “recorded slightly before the Odessey sessions and was the B-side to Time of the Season in Europe”, according to the liner notes on the Rhino CD. It’s a shame, should’ve been on the album too; it’s that great. The consequence of leaving it off the album is that most people in the USA who followed and bought this album have never heard this incredible song, which is criminal. The piano on this is amazing and the tune penned by who else but Chris White is genius, pure genius. Has an element of baroque pop, so stately, in a sense.
It's nice to hear this one once again. It has a good musical arrangement. I had This one on one of my Zombies LP. If they'd been managed differently perhaps it would've made a difference on their musical career. Just that record companies at times use cut-throat practices. Some musical acts they'll help. Others they'll throw under the bus. That's how that type of business goes.
Dude, thanks so much for posting that masterpiece that has been so overlooked - This Will Be Our Year might just be my favorite "pop" song ever written :)
always thought this song was about a minute too short - so pretty that it qualifies as a modern masterpiece. also always wondered why it seemed to get spliced on the compilation album "Time of the Zombies" ?!?!
@@rtrepsas had to create another account - might show as John Smith or Dan K, but at least I can communicate w/ fellow music lovers of the old school again. Thanks for being a fellow "Zombieite" Richard !
This song's not from Odessy and Oracle. It's from their abandoned album RIP. It was a follow up project that was abandoned due to Rod Argent's new group. If you waant the whole thing, you need to get Zombie Heaven, their box set.
RE: on the Facebook Group "I Love Power Pop "Big Stars' "September Gurls" is at the top of my Favorite Power Pop ballad" by Justin Lee Russell Not quite, it's Number 2 record for me: This is mine. Q.: as John Lennon wrote "You might well arsk". From fellow You-Tube fan commenter MikeMan Iam: "How in the fucking hell was this not a hit? I guarantee if it was commercialized properly this would have been a top 10, if not a number one." A: I AGREE TOTALLY! REASON: BECAUSE the Zombies only did the "Odessey and Oracle" tracks as Rod Argent explained on my own copy's sleeve notes: the sole INTENT was to go our with a "swan song": composing/recording/arrangements for them-SELVES, laid down at Abbey Road Studios in the Summer of 1967 with the longtime Beatles' Engineer Geoff Emerick co-engineer on the LP: NO COMMERCIAL POTENTIAL was assumed, the Group simply asked CBS for the recording costs and Rod and Chris chipped in several hundred pounds of their songwriting royalties to help finance it: 'twas to be their swan song and the corporate blockheads at Columbia Records were so stupid they wrote Zombies off/(needed Al Kooper convinced upon return from his visit there with several dozens of records from the U. K. that THIS one was ascendant)to PRESS the tracks from his 2 years later visit to the U. K. ) that they MUST release this music...which they finally did...for the Album AFTER the Group had sunk into oblivion in the USA until they released Rod Argent's "Time Of The Season" which was a SMASH HIT nearly 2 years AFTER the Group had split up! Sadly, this " I'll Call You Mine" majestic masterpiece was not on the original 1969 LP release. It's by the genius other composer of the Zombies, Chris White which I only discovered on my 1987 Rhino CD Re-issue as a bonus track (!) , and a POWER POP All-time Classic ballad IMO!
Lisa Frankenstein is such a good movie, fight me.
I couldn’t agree more! That’s the kind of movie where if it doesn’t become a cult classic at some point I’m gonna be mad
the zombies are one of the best, and sadly underrated, bands of the 20th century
alas, they are now in the R&R HoF...
For pure melody this song is incredible and stands along with anything written in the last 50 years.
Bob Eskin, hear hear!

The zombies have so many underrated deep cuts...this is one of them
This was and still is a magical record..
Love this song. Very disappointing that they never perform this live.
Very Cool Song !
God knows how much I love this song...
We are two!!
A very nice song but it´s not on the Odessey and Oracle album. It´s on the b-side of the UK single Time of the Season from -68.
Yeah but it should’ve been on the album too: it’s that great. The piano on this is amazing and the tune penned by who else but Chris White is genius, pure genius. Has an element of baroque pop, so stately, in a sense.
This is a great great song!I love so much!
very excellent song
Love .
Probably my favorite song from them. Thanks for posting!
this song is from R.I.P. the last proposed album by the zombies
Love this song.

Yeah it has a proto-Odessey feel to it. Recorded in summer of ‘66 I want to say, right about a year before they returned to Abbey Road to cut O&O.

John Smith see my comment from September 2020 above. You are right: it is a modern masterpiece of baroque pop! Could’ve gone on longer for sure!
@@rtrepsas had to create another account - might show as John Smith or Dan K, but at least I can communicate w/ fellow music lovers of the old school again.
Thanks for being a fellow "Zombieite" Richard !
I love this song. It's the obvious influence for Belle And Sebastian's Jonathan David.
This 'Every Breath You Take' from 1968! :)
groovy
This is the undubbed version, for a real treat try the overdub with additional piano and harmonies, I think that was done for RIP in 1969.
Favorite Power Pop ballad? This....this is mine.
This song's not from Odessy and Oracle. It's from their abandoned album RIP. It was a follow up project that was abandoned due to Rod Argent's new group. If you waant the whole thing, you need to get Zombie Heaven, their box set.
it is time to help the zombies!

I'M STILL MAD ABOUT THE ZOMBIES .
PERHAPS A YOUNG GIRL WOULD BE MAD TO LIKE ME....
Yes and some say they were superior to the Beatles!
