@@christinebrument6851 That was explained. This is a small, tight community. The guy and his family were well-liked and respected. In general, you don't make suspicions and allegations against others in a small town; you have to live with these people and see them everywhere. But to do that against people the whole town feels is on the level, you invite everyone to judge you, and odds are it won't be nice. They both came to individual conclusions to keep it to themselves. There's also a psychological effect when nobody shares your view, you may doubt your own suspicion just enough to say nothing. These girls snapped out of it once they shared their stories.

Plenty of women that actually like such kids, bc they think they can sure them. And sometimes they can even.
Its always easy in hinesight. Same with those 2 women, which decades later state that it might be him, or is him, but thats 20 or more years later. Im sure back then they just did it off as a person being awkward with regard to women. But the ones not awkward with women are equally suspect. So everyone is. It doesnt mean all that much. • @SwedePotato314

Defense lawyers don’t try to justify what their client may have done, they only try to make sure that all sides and facts are shown and that their client gets a fair trial. There’s ill will from any defense attorney to the victims and their families. They don’t do it to make anything more painful for anyone. But they HAVE to raise any doubt. Because by our own rights we have to be able to convict someone beyond the shadow of any doubt. If there is any doubt at all you cannot send someone to jail for life.

@@Straightfromtheheart8691 I’m not saying he didn’t do it. What I’m saying is that the justice system puts the burden of proof on the prosecution. Im not saying anything for or against anyone in this case. Im describing the US justice system and defense lawyers. And yes, prosecution HAS to prove that everything they say is true. The burden of proof is on the prosecution in every single case ever. The defense doesn’t have to prove anything one way or another. Their only job is to raise doubt. Because whether or not we all rationally know if someone is guilty, like Casey Anthony, you CANNOT give someone the death penalty or send them to jail for life. In ALL jury instructions it is very very clearly because if they decide guilt on feelings or “knowing” something then a mistrial can be declared and the suspect walks free. Costs the state another trial. In every single court proceeding it is stated clearly that the prosecution MUST prove anything beyond a reasonable doubt. If the defense raises reasonable doubt, not because the person is innocent but because the state doesn’t have a good case, then they cannot be convicted. No judicial system will ever be perfect because humans are imperfect and there is way too room for human error unless computers run everything. So yeah it’s not perfect but that’s the rights you are granted as a citizen or as anyone facing a trial in the US.
