You give several choices for the males to choose. I’ve done that but also given only one choice, and had similar results. Have you tried one cave? And if so, What’s your experience been Jessie? Great vid
Caylor's Aquatics I generally always give options due to the fact I always have more than 1 male per tank. Quite often I get 2 or 3 batches of eggs in 1 tank. In tanks that have fry eating species of fish in them I like to offer very “tight” caves so the male can protect the fry more easily. Like I said in the video they will eventually breed in just about any nook or cranny, but I like to have a bit of control where they breed, by offering the male more choices on where I want them to breed👍🏻 thanks for watching and the kind words Bob

@@danielevans9106 Thank you for your great video explaining how to carefully extract and raise the fry. I am hoping to see my first eggs and fry very soon and have Peppermint Bristlenose and both long and short fin Albinos. The males are in their caves , and my Albino short fin Bristlenose has been fussy, and has kicked out a couple of females in the last few days, but with a storm on the way and a 40'/. water change, he is tonight displaying his strong fins and in and out of the cave to feed. I have noticed while the rest of the Albinos in the tank are uniform white, the male is quite red as he displays his fins and the two femals inspecting his cave have reddish belly"s. Have you noticed this colour change behaviour prior to breeding? My PH is 7.2 and temperature is dropped to 72 degrees to hopefully encourage them to breed, so I hope to see my first eggs and fry very soon
very very helpful information. I am new to breeding ancistrus and learned a lot from your video. Upgrading my 20 gallon grow out tank to a 40 gallon and will keep on feeding lots of food, Also learned not to have swordtails in same tank as they eat all the food instead of the baby plecos.
Great info! I’m just starting to breed my bristle nose for the first time, they are in a community tank with a lot of similar fish so these where great tips for me!
Nice vid! I breed short-fin super reds and I have an old breeding pair of 5 years old. The key to getting more babies is having the female well fed 2 weeks before your expected breeding window (my pair breeds every 4-5 weeks). My pair's average spawn is around 80 babies. My biggest spawn was close to 130 babies. MY male is almost 6" and my female is 4.5" long. Also keeping the babies too long in the cave will be hard on a big clutch as the food inside the cave can go quickly if you have a huge clutch. I typically remove the babies 3 to 4 days after hatching and transfer them to a breeder box.
Excellant information and presentation. I’m planning to breed bristlenose plecos in the near future, this will help me a lot thank you I subscribed today 3-5 -21
Thank you thank you! For recommending the Organika!!! My bristlenoses are around 1 week old and have not ate anything for me. I tried zucchini, cucumber, bug bites and algae tabs. I knew I had to order on Amazon to get the Organika quick. They only had the 500mg available. I noticed yours was 300mg. Do you think it's okay to give them the 500mg? Also thanks for the helpful videos. This is the first time one of my fish ever had babies. I was a nervous Nelly!
Loved the video, I haven't had any success getting my super red long-fin male to breed, im only using water spikes as caves and was wondering if you could link the cave that we saw in this video with the brown babies in it with the removable lid. Thank you:) PS, I should mention my shortfins breed with ease, thats why I think it may be cave size.
wix.to/Y8ArCvc I believe this is the larger of the 2 I advertise. My large long fins breed regularly in the smaller option. wix.to/m8AvCvc How this helps!
Thank you👍🏻 As often as needed. I know that sounds like a smart ass answer but its not. Depends on alot of factors. How much feed, amount and size of fish in the system, how much filtration etc. It cannot be a accurate 1 size fits all answer.
love u video! but have u tried cross breed golden britlenose with the common britlenose, this is what I got stuck with now. my pair don't seem to breed, although they are a year and half old now.
I have some goldens but they are young. The colour morphs between ancistrus would not prevent them from breeding. Try switching food up, maybe change temp up or down a couple degrees and move the caves around or offer different types.
Depends what caves you are looking for. Check out JN AQUARIUM on facebook and send me a message. 7” sounds awfully big for a bn. Is that a long fin and including the tail?

I wish someone would work on breeding a smaller bristlenose pleco that is about 1/3 the size. If we can breed poodles from wolves, it should be possible.

I have a top filter (Venus Aqua U6600). Do the babies possibly get into the inlet?
I am not familiar with that filter but if it had a intake that they would fit through then yes
Hi, my babies plecos got fungus (white pots) at second weeks. Could you tell me how to treat it? Thanks
When do you put the babies into the big tank from the breeder box?
Jeezus how many did you drop on the floor?
Wonder the odds of my super reds breeding in my peacock cichlid tank, and fry surviving?

The cheapest place to get it is the wish app. Other than that health food stores are tour best bet!

@@JNAQUARIUM I don't have either so could I ran a nurserie tank with no filter
If you are serious about saving babies I would just get what you need. Taking short cuts or not using a filter is not the best....
How can anything dry up in water?
Why do you keep a fork in your tanks?
To hold raw zucchini down for the plecos to eat
Love the fork lol
Good for keeping zucchini sunk! Stainless steel, no rust 👍🏻
