My dreams are rapidly adjusting from Amel to Kraken! Your videos are exceptionally helpful. Between your experienced questions as sailors and Dick's exceptionally worldly views on everything integrated into boat design... Dang good stuff!
Your videos have to be some of the best on Krakens on the internet - it's great just hearing Dick expounding on the design and explaining the benefit of a lifetime's knowledge and experience that have gone into building these boats!
Though I've seen all the Kraken videos, this is only my third watching the posts on this channel. This one is the first really inside look at production and I found it very informative and fascinating! Thank you so much.
As a former composite engineer I am deeply impressed. Dick is a visionary and a engineer and a sailor and a perfect salesman etc. etc. Basically the Elon Musk of Yacht Building 🙂
Let’s not refer to him as Elon Musk because Elon didn’t design the technology in Tesla he just bought the company and ran with it. And then when he bought Twitter he’s made some really ridiculous decisions. As far as his other companies, I don’t know if he’s behind that creatively or if he did the same thing he did with Tesla. I really don’t follow him now. And also Elon has became at least a partial psychopath. So that’s come up with a better example. Lol
Not sure if this can be seen as a compliment. Nevertheless, Dick is an awsome sailor (obviously) and has brought his real world experience into building great boats. I will most probably never be able to afford a kraken, but i so much love the spirit of these boats and the craftmanship that goes into this, that i am absolutely happy anyways :-) But pleasy screw trolly Elon
What about the repairing of Kevlar? If it was damaged I hear you can sand it down like fiberglass? Is there a way to fix delamination or cracks in Kevlar if you hit something?
I'm a Kraken fan. Thanks for video. Questions 1. How much do those massive bow thruster inlets affect water flow moving forward? 2 Glass fibre. Do they use cheap eGlass or S glass ? 3. How many hours of Labour go into these boats? Ie. If you built this in France or UK the labour costs would be massive compared to Turkey. Are those savings reflected in a Lower boat price, or do they give you more boat for the same price. Can you give us some comparisms with other makes.
2. I’m sure they use whichever one is better. 3. The boat costs ~1.5 million. I don’t think thought of making them in a higher wage country was ever a consideration. I think it’s safe to say that they built the boat the way it should be built and that determined what the price should be.
Bob Perry has actually stated that skegs are not needed because the spade rudders are so strong and that the strong rudder actually braces the skeg. Not sure why a skeg would be built like that, but that's what he's claimed.
Okay, so much great information, but please slow the camera sweep down. You are making me dizzy with so much speed sweeping. Dick is a wonderful explainer of all things safety. Thanks
Dick, I'm a professional voice talent and writer. I'd love to compose some background music for your videos, or even create your own theme song for Kraken. What's the best way to reach you?
Hi Mike! I am the average sailor! I currently own a Hunter 49 and Hunter 44....no where close to the Kraken, but at least we have something to dream about!
Sailing a kraken yacht to down under would be likely Raising a guide dog. To enjoy and love something for a year, knowing that you are giving something to someone that they will hopefully love too. Then straight away buying an fabiously kraken is not in everyone budget🫡😉. Of course kraken yachts welcomed everywhere. Or finance a yacht halve halve to shipping sailing it to partners. Then buying an yacht is best know owners was loving and watched they yacht.

Any boat can be sailed across any ocean.... with enough luck and stupidity

Maybe in twenty years I'll be able to afford a used one.
Dream Big!!! Watch what happens!
Gee, I wonder how many sailors are going to cough up over a million dollars for a boat. These videos do nothing for the average sailor.
