- Historian and commentator David Stokes discusses the little-known, but very real friendship between two men who are always thought of as enemies. Both were first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1946. The two forged a friendship following a friendly debate on economic issues in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Afterward, Kennedy and Nixon had dinner in a local greasy spoon - and during the long train ride back to Washington, discussed their hopes and ambitions for hours. The Kennedy Family contributed to Nixon’s 1950 campaign for the U.S. Senate. Richard and Pat Nixon were among the guests at the wedding of John Kennedy and Jackie Bouvier in 1953.
