Hi mate, we have had a really rubbish summer this year, non stop wind and rain for most of July and august. It’s been an absolute pain. Hope you’re well 👍🎣
A week since you were last out,.....well worth the wait Chris with plenty nice fish although no Pollock today. The Wildcats looks the buisness. Will your motor fit at all?.Anyway, good bit of exercise for the legs. Tight lines, Arthur.
Hi Arthur mate, no the motor doesn’t fit but they’re working on one at the mo. I found it a little easier than the sturgeon to pedal, I really like it! Was nice to be out, nice weather as well for a change! 👍🎣
Great video as usual Chris. The Widcat looks like a very roomy and stable yak but there doesn't appear to be a "between the legs" storage compartment like most other yaks. I think I would miss that.
Thanks Chris, I’m glad you enjoyed it. You’re right no compartment between the legs but that’s not a miss for me really as I use the tackle box on the rail. I did love all of the legroom! Tight lines mate 👍🎣
Always look forward to the video's, I noticed you have the plugs out of the Kayak around the pedal drive do you remove all the plugs from your Kayak when fishing ?
I’m glad you’re enjoying the content. Yes it’s all plugs out all of the time when you’re at sea. Scupper plugs are only for fresh water really where there’s zero chance of water coming over the bow or side 👍🎣
Hi mate, met my wife in Hull! I used to show the launch etc but stats showed that people bailed on the vid if you didn’t get straight into the fishing. I might do a separate film about venues though….Thanks for the idea 👍🎣
Yeah I often do when I remember, sometimes they pop back up after a few fish as well. I’ve never been able to source good barbless wide gape/Texas style hooks. If you know of any a link would be appreciated. Tight lines mate 👍🎣
Hi great video as usual. I see in most of your videos you sit sideways to fish. Is it that stable or is it your sense of balance. I bought a Cambridge Marlin which is supposed to be a fishing kayak. I went for a practice on a lake and all seemed good. The next week i went on my local river which was very calm no ripple or wind. I went a couple of miles and took my pike rod a small box of lures and a back pack with my drink and phone in a waterproof pouch. I just slightly turned to put the backpack behind me and it just went straight over dumping me and everything in the water. I grabbed everything and swam to the opposite bank. Flipped it back over and put everything back in. After I composed myself. I stepped in and sat down from the bank and it went straight over again. I lost my rod and reel this time. I don't think it is as stable as they made out . I think if i hooked a decent pike it may tip me over leaning anyway to a side to get it out. I am sending it back. It is not stable at all they said you could stand in it I think not. So what i am asking is, The wildcat is it very stable you make it look very stable with your legs over the side so I am looking to get the wildcat but lost a bit of confidence with my first choice of kayak. I look forward to your opinion on the stability of the wildcat cheers Tim
Hi mate, yeah the wildcat is a very stable kayak indeed but as with anything you do play a part in that also. Your head should never go outside of the kayak, try and keep it central and move at the hips when riding waves etc, as I say though though I find it great out on the water. Hope you get sorted soon mate and can get out there and enjoy your fishing 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing thank you for your advice. When I get the refund sorted on my marlin kayak I will be buying the wildcat and will be using your discount code cheers Tim
I noticed a couple of newbies posting, and a couple thinking about a yak, I don't know what you do for a living, I only get weekends off, I'm sure you will agree, the day you're off the weather isn't right, or the weather is fine but the sea state stops you launching, I love getting out on the yak, but if you're time is limited your kayak fishing will be even more limited due to weather.
Luckily I’m self employed so I can shove work around to suit the weather. July has been a particular pain wind wise. You can often get out in the evenings though at this time of year. I spend most of my spare time with my nose in the weather apps!🤣🎣
Great vídeo! I’m looking to get a thrust motor for my Sturgeon but wondered if you’re able to share what battery you use and how you have it setup? Couldn’t see that this was talked about in any of your other videos. Cheers!
Hi mate, glad you enjoyed the video! I use an Ultramax 100ah LiFePO4 Bluetooth battery, total overkill but I get two or three trips between charges when I’m away. It’s stays in the box behind my seat and that’s it really. I extended the cables just a bit to reach the battery and I stuck an inline fuse in but apart from that. Tight lines mate 👍🎣
I’m glad you enjoyed it Peter, I use two drainpipes and just slide it up there. There are quite a few vids on UA-cam showing the drainpipe method you could check them out 👍🎣
Hi pal love the videos, i have only been kayak fishing for a very short time, and loving it. My kit is very basic, just a quick one where do you get your tackle and lures from. Many thanks
Hi Jim mate, welcome to the sport! I get my stuff from loads of different places. I get a lot of my lures from eBay, The weedless shads and whatnot, sometimes I do a big order from Ali Express but that’s not that often these days as it’s not as cheap as it used to be. Hope that helps 👍🎣
@onthedropfishing what size was that? I ask as i have a 2+1 kayak with rod holders and so on but die to its size it is heavy and takes it out of me paddling on my own, especially when i go out to sea. It is very stable but quite hard work. So looking at getting a single. Not sure what is good but affordable. Have seen one but only a 10footer but have been told can be hard work to paddle as so twitchy.
Loved as always Chris! Ordered the kayak with promotion code so thanks for that! Sturgeon ordered from your advise. What motor should I get please? Thanks.
Hi mate, I haven’t actually done a beginners guide maybe I should! I suppose budget plays a big role in kayak choice, I have a Galaxy Sturgeon FX and I have a lend of a Galaxy wildcat at the moment. If you’re thinking of buying new the channel discount code OTD5 would save you a few quid if you went down the Galaxy route. There are often full set ups used on marketplace as an alternative where you will sometimes get everything you need in one go. Whatever you get should be more than 12 foot long and don’t forget to budget for your safety equipment. Hope that helps 👍🎣
Hi mate when you get the chance can you do a few videos along South Shield like where the rocks stick out both sides of pier and along the coast at Frenchmans bay and Marsden area please ps how you finding the Penn Spinfisher reel im looking at getting a new reel for fishing ther pier and from the rocks and torn what to get, I was thinking Penn battle 3 or Penn Spinfisher VI (I hear the new version is out soon?) to be used with Abu garcia Diplomat 10ft 12-32grm spinning rod
Hey mate, I’ve been loving my spinfishers. One them got dunked in the sea last year and it’s still going strong. As it happens I launched at shields two weeks ago and caught loads of fish….but my bloody memory card failed and I lost the footage! So back I went on Tuesday, launched from South Shields again….and blanked!!! 🤣 I’ll have another go soon though!
Ah great mate, and shame about the memory card that would have been great to see its been an awful year in shields with the bad weather and not many good fishing days look forward to seeing you do another trip out @@onthedropfishing
How do you load that yak onto you're car? Looks a hand full to say the least, you've been going for a while now, I could be wrong but I don't think, you've done a vid on loading/unloading the yak, I for one would like to see, I often struggle, I would love some tips. Ps I have the sturgeon but I load and unload on my own, any advice would be appreciated.
Hi Alan mate, it’s actually pretty easy as it’s the lightest kayak I’ve got here. I just slide it up two drainpipes onto the roof or I just put the bow on slide it up and turn over once it’s up there. It’s in a vid somewhere but I can’t remember which of the 60 or so it is 🤣. There are loads of vids though that use the drainpipe method if you have a search. I can get the supernova on the van going bow first and that’s a weighty yak! 👍🎣
Hi mate, the boots are Palm Gradient kayak boots. I’ve been through them all and these are the best by far. Not the cheapest, but definitely the best. 👍🎣
Thanks mate I’m glad you enjoyed it. It is in the rail, it’s attached to the male part of a railblaza mount the straight into a normal railblaza star mount 👍🎣
HI Chris, iv looked on the galaxy website for a motor to fit the wildcat but cant find anything, i know you mentioned that one will be with us by the end of 2023 but wasnt sure if you knew any more? thanks
Hi mate, I haven’t heard anything else I’m afraid. I was told end of 2023 and that was the last I heard. If you message Graeme at Galaxy he’ll be able to tell you for sure when it’s due. I’m really looking forward to the season, fingers crossed we get better weather than last year! 👍🎣
Thanks Chris. no problem, i will keep any eye out. just watched your trip to Craigleith and cannot wait to get out myself. Have you got a preferred kayak between the Sturgeon and Wildcat ?@@onthedropfishing
hello, just a few questions if you don't mind answering, what is that took box you have on the rails? and was you ever able to stop that squeaking on the wildcat? also trying to decide on either wildcat or the explora i'm just planning on doing coastal fishing, the explora is compact and has a hatch in front of the seat which i like the idea of, but the wildcat seems better in all other aspects , the sturgeon and the supernova are just to big for me.
Hey mate, it’s just a cheap toolbox from BnM attached to the rail via a railblaza star mount. The squeak took care of itself, it was gone after the second trip. Just needed wearing in as it were. I would personally chose the wildcat over the explorer for the sea but don’t write off the sturgeon either, it’s only about 6 inches longer and 2 kilo heavier (rough estimate). Hope that helps 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing oh that's cool that your able to just make it attach like that, i would love the sturgeon but the extra length( about 2 foot longer then the wildcat) according to the specs means i'm going to struggle to find somewhere to store it. glad the squeaking stopped that was going to be a huge negative for me if it didn't. thank you for answering my questions and it has been very helpful.
Brilliant video mate ive had my kayak about a year now and im fancying an upgrade. what kayak do you think is the best out of the sturgeon, supernova and hellcat? Im also someone that doesnt like the idea of having to mess about drilling and cutting into the boat to get fish finders ect into it so the least amount of DIY as possible as a mistake could end up being an expensive mistake. Cheers
Thanks mate I’m glad you enjoyed it. I have all three, I think they’re all great but for me it would be a toss up between the Sturgeon and the Wildcat…maybe just maybe the wildcat edges it? If you do decide to pull the trigger the channel discount will save you a few quid. OTD5 - Tight lines 👍🎣
Hi David, it’s attached via a railblaza mount (male part) screwed to the bottom of the toolbox. That then goes into a railblaza star port on the rail 👍🎣
Can I ask a question? I'm from South Ayrshire. What is the best type of weather to go out on a kayak for fishing I I just got a kayak please let me know
Hi mate, there’s not really a one size fits all answer as it’s different from person to person and venue to venue. As a rule of thumb I give it a miss if the wind is more than 10 mph and on my coast it’s best if it’s been in the west for a few days as well 👍🎣
Thanks mate, it was just the clips in the new housing. Bit of grease and it’s sorted now. I think it might be my favourite Galaxy yak now. Glad you’re enjoying the content 👍🎣
Do you not get stressed when the sea comes away and have to run for home and how do you get past the brakers without capsizing i went out in a yak years ago when was 17 i was only out 3 or 400 yds and was very nervous
I try to avoid that full stop to be fair! 🤣. I’m slightly obsessive with the weather so I try to make sure I’ve got a good long window before any big changes in the conditions. If there’s a chance of the sea coming away at 3:00pm say I’ll try to be off the water a few hours before. I have been tipped in the surf, it happens. As long as everything is strapped down and what needs to be waterproofed is waterproof it’s fine. Only happened to me once in four years mind touch wood 🤞 🎣
@@richardsales6996 I was only in about a meter of water so I just stood up basically. That’s the most likely place the sea is gonna tip you as the waves break on the shore as you’re landing. 👍🎣
Hi mate, I fish quite light so I use a rod rated 40g hence weedless shads around 25-40g are my go too lures. I sometimes use metals as well around the same weight. Light braid is key for me, around 15lb. Hope that helps 👍🎣
This is fantastic, in fish from my Paddleboard around the Sunderland area and I’ve had a few codlings and Pollock around 2-3lb from metal lures that I cast and retrieve. I notice on your videos you are jigging vertically under the Kayak and wasn’t sure what you were using. Your videos are absolutely fantastic 💪💪💪
Hi mate, if weight is an issue for you I’d say the wildcat but if not I like them both. The supernova is a bit bigger than the wildcat but as I say the wildcat is a lot easier to transport so it’s six and two threes really. Hope that helps! 👍🎣
@@geordiepiper2615 No mate, it’s just that I’ve got a silver van and they go nicely 🤣🤣🤣. I do really like the colour as well however I have the supernova in orange 👍🎣
Hi Robert, the Drysuit is the Typhoon PS330 Extreme and as you probably know this is the wildcat kayak. I really like this, I still have one here. The only reason I’m not using it at the moment is because I’ve done my hamstring in so am on the Sturgeon with the motor! 👍🎣
Again another really enjoyable video Chris 👍🎣 I've been mulling over getting a supernova for a while now 🥴 but i might just wait until the wildcat its available with the propeller drive
From the Camera angle, the Wildcat seems a bit more "tippy" than your other Yaks, Chris. When you do your usual 'legs over the side' it seems to go a lot lower on the side you're using. Like I say, it might be the Camera angle, but something perhaps worth looking at, mate.
Must be the camera angle as it’s a lot more stable than the Sturgeon, it’s about 15cm wider as well. The camera is also further away so it’ll exaggerate the movement 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing I dont have them either but was thinking about it now my back is on the way out.. p.s. do you have any vids about loading with the pipes!? :-)

Hi pal can I ask how you attached your tool box/ tackle box to your slide rails, I have the rails on mine,
Hi David, it’s attached via a railblaza mount (male part) screwed to the bottom of the toolbox. That then goes into a railblaza star port on the rail 👍🎣
thats great thank you i will do the same as it looks so handy

Can I ask a question? I'm from South Ayrshire.
What is the best type of weather to go out on a kayak for fishing I I just got a kayak please let me know
Hi mate, there’s not really a one size fits all answer as it’s different from person to person and venue to venue. As a rule of thumb I give it a miss if the wind is more than 10 mph and on my coast it’s best if it’s been in the west for a few days as well 👍🎣
Great video as usual what is the squeak mate im autistic and that noise would make me go mad but it looks a lovley yak and your videos are brilliant
Thanks mate, it was just the clips in the new housing. Bit of grease and it’s sorted now. I think it might be my favourite Galaxy yak now. Glad you’re enjoying the content 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing it certainly is a very nice yak and love all the options coming thanks mate
Jesus scarey how did to right yourself in that cold water?
@@richardsales6996 I was only in about a meter of water so I just stood up basically. That’s the most likely place the sea is gonna tip you as the waves break on the shore as you’re landing. 👍🎣
Exellent
Thanks mate, I’m glad you enjoyed it 👍🎣
What’s the best lures for Cod/Pollock? In around 40/50ft of water? Thanks 👍
Should I be jigging or using metal lures?
Thanks mate I’m glad you’re enjoying them. I tend to cast if there’s not much drift and drop straight down if I’m moving at a pretty pace 👍🎣
Hey Bud, Wildcat vs Supernova? Do you have a preference?
Hi mate, if weight is an issue for you I’d say the wildcat but if not I like them both. The supernova is a bit bigger than the wildcat but as I say the wildcat is a lot easier to transport so it’s six and two threes really. Hope that helps! 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing Cheers, I appreciate your reply, Wildcat it is!!!
`Hi mate whats the fishfinder mount you use and the camera mount
They’re both Railblaza mate, the “swing arm” mount goes into a star port on the rail and the “camera boom” goes into a star port near the bow 👍🎣
@@onthedropfishing smashinguu went to order the orange wildcat but out of stock Ive noticed all yours are charcoal is that to stop sun glare
@@geordiepiper2615 No mate, it’s just that I’ve got a silver van and they go nicely 🤣🤣🤣. I do really like the colour as well however I have the supernova in orange 👍🎣
GONE FOR THE SUPERNOVA FX WILDCATS OUT OF STOCK BUD USED OTD5
WHATS THE ROD YOUR USING COLIN LOVE THE ACTION ON IT
@@geordiepiper2615 Hi mate, happy new kayak! The rod im using is the Dam IMAX SW Spin 7’4” 40g. I think the action is great as well 👍🎣
Hi there can you tell me wot drysuit you are using please and this kayak is the one for me
Hi Robert, the Drysuit is the Typhoon PS330 Extreme and as you probably know this is the wildcat kayak. I really like this, I still have one here. The only reason I’m not using it at the moment is because I’ve done my hamstring in so am on the Sturgeon with the motor! 👍🎣
Is the galaxy sturgeon the better kayak
I would say it’s a dead heat, which I know doesn’t help you! Gun at my head I’d keep my Sturgeon if I had to choose one 👍🎣
Again another really enjoyable video Chris 👍🎣 I've been mulling over getting a supernova for a while now 🥴 but i might just wait until the wildcat its available with the propeller drive
Thanks very much I’m glad you enjoyed it. They’re hoping it’ll be ready before January I believe. They’re both great kayaks 👍🎣
And ppl say there's no cod in the North Sea you prove theres still good fishing to be had
Cheers Richard, it’s been a canny year so far 👍🎣
From the Camera angle, the Wildcat seems a bit more "tippy" than your other Yaks, Chris. When you do your usual 'legs over the side' it seems to go a lot lower on the side you're using. Like I say, it might be the Camera angle, but something perhaps worth looking at, mate.
Must be the camera angle as it’s a lot more stable than the Sturgeon, it’s about 15cm wider as well. The camera is also further away so it’ll exaggerate the movement 👍🎣
Sold wildcat for me
I really enjoyed using it, I think it ticks all the boxes for me. Don’t forget your discount code! OTD5 - Tight lines mate 👍🎣
Looks good but too wide for anyone using a Hullavator I think.
I wouldn’t know mate I’ve never used one so I don’t know the limitations. I’m a cheapskate, I get mine on the van with a couple of drainpipes 🤣🎣
@@onthedropfishing I dont have them either but was thinking about it now my back is on the way out.. p.s. do you have any vids about loading with the pipes!? :-)
